Warrington Wolves extended their lead at the top of the Engage Super League to three points as they ended champions Wigan Warriors' unbeaten start to the season with victory at the DW Stadium.

Wigan went into this clash on the back of four consecutive victories but met their match in Warrington, who bullied and harassed them from the opening whistle.

The Wolves dominated the opening 40 minutes and were rightly 12-6 ahead at the break thanks to tries from Matty Blythe and Joel Monaghan.

The home side threw caution to the wind in the second period but their lack of composure proved their downfall as Monaghan's second try and an interception score from Richie Myler sealed a fine 24-6 win for the Wolves.

Lee Briers tormented the Warriors all evening with his crisp passing and accurate kicking game.
