Will the Blazers amnesty Roy? Should they amnesty Roy?

Well at least not this season. But I think he willbe Amnesty'd this summer; unless he somehow miraclously performs like he did to warrant that contract. So in other words. 100% this summer. I think Roy has the heart to want to be the player he once was; but he lacks the health to achieve it.

It's really sad for me because I am such a fan of Roy. We just can't be suffocated via cap in order to stay competitive.

Man, with the bidding system in place, and teams that have to get players, it is a good time to cut and run. Roys value may never be as high as it is now.

PS Hey Mags!

If they want to improve the team this season, move forward into a new era, and have a shot at useful free agents before they start falling off the map, they need to do it sooner rather than later. Watching him do well in pickup games and drills at the practice facility for two weeks is of no value in determining how he's going to hold up playing in this season's accelerated NBA schedule.

Hey Lincoln! Roy's value is low right now, BTW... I suspect it being higher mid-season. I have this strange feeling that Roy will come out on fire. Won't last, but he will be really good this season and maybe even next. Then I think his knees will finally give out.

can we amnesty this subject and the dead horse it's turned into with it? lol

Dont do it. Wait to see what he brings this season. I dont think it does us much good this year because there is such a short window to use/maximize the $$ we'd then have to spend. It would also be a PR nightmare. If his knee's are shot, then it will be evident this year and maybe he'll retire.

God could you imagine if he played this season and realized that he can't ever play to the caliber he is accustom to and decides to medically retire? Then becomes an assistant coach and he can retire a Blazer forever! That would be the best case scenario! (crossing fingers)

Why? Roy is the face of the franchise. Him and Aldridge should be the #1 topics on this forum. :P

if you need ask that Mags then obviously U haven't yet had your fill of it like I have - every angle has been covered 10 times at least. But bang away amigo!

I posted this the other day and this is a dream scenario, don't wake me up! Ok, I'm done

Well I was a little late for the party Blazin... I got some catching up to do. LOL

you are right, its not very high. The only thing that even gives him any value is his performance in the game 4 with Dallas .

He is saying that he feels good, but by mid season he could be exposed to be a shadow of his past self and have zero value.

There are 9 teams that have to spend big money to get tio the new CBA min salery figure.

think this is the time to do it.

Medical retirement would be awesome, even to much to hope for.

Why do you think Roy can coach?

This franchise is hamstrung every year by the "wait and see" approach. Wasted expiring contracts (RLEC). Wasted young trading chips (Sergio/Rudy). Wasted draft picks (Eurostashes). "Letting the cake bake." When we stop waiting and watching and actually act is when things actually improve (Camby trade, Matthews signing, Wallace trade).

I'm tired of "wait and see". Painful though it may be, Roy needs to go so that we can move forward.

Well many have said how smart he is on the court. Even Blazers like Batum have said they've learned so much from him. I would think he would be great for teaching the guards and small forwards how to get to the basket more. He has talent in this department.

Fair enough.

Will the Blazers amnesty Roy?

Why don't you tell us GOD?! Why you always gotta leave us hanging?

It will all come down to this: can the Blazers be the 2011 Mavs in the Playoffs? If yes, you keep Roy, if No, you don't. It's a given the Nation Media would say No, but I consider them the least informed.

LaMarcus Aldridge =/≠ Dirk Nowitzki
Nicholas Batum =/≠ Shawn Marion
Wesley Mathews =/≠ DeShawn Stevenson
Raymond Felton =/≠ Jason Kidd
Brandon Roy =/≠ Jason Terry
Greg Oden =/≠ Tyson Chandler
Marcus Camby =/≠ Brendan Haywood
Gerald Wallace =/≠ Peja Stojakovic
Nolan Smith/AJ/EW =/≠ JJ Barea

IMO we match the skill of the Mavs, and have most all the pieces, it's simply our offense that needs to be refined. (With G.O. our Defense is unmatched)

As I see, I'm guessing the Blazers do as well, were not far off. And Roy will be priceless to keep around for the Clutch.

If we want Freedland next year, would it be wise to cut Roy now and sign a free agent? Would that not make the chances tougher on Freedland? Or should we wait a year, see how Roy responds, and then use the amnesty? Maybe it makes no difference for Freedland, and I am too lazy to look up all the numbers, but regardless I still say wait.

Good Question Pinwheel

The other thing that's different about this amnesty than other amnesty's is that this amnesty is available throughout the life of this CBA

Bold indicating an inflection in his voice, alluding to (IMO), that they will wait till next year or further to amnesty Roy.

Do I get to see him play first? Even a practice scrimmage?

How can one make a vote without knowing jack diddly about his condition and readiness to play?

Exactly, exactly why they wont make the decision to cut him in time.

Poll is consistently 50-50, people who believe the Blazers are close, and those who think were still far off (IMO)

That would be great! Of course only if he cant be close to the old Roy.

Nobody has seen him play since the long layoff. None if us has examined his knees.

If I were GM, I'd at least want to see him scrimmage with the team for a week or two.

The stretch provision in the new CBA might make more sense in a year if things don't work out.

That game against the Mavs is his potential. And that was without him really playing much with the new lineup (Wallace).

The only reason to cut him is to save money. Or if you can sign one of the better FAs.

If Roy plays 66 games, 30 a night, only part of his salary might be a waste.

I really don't like Camby much. He's got a $9 mil contract. I'd bet Roy is the better player this season, money factor included.

You make the best decision you can based upon what you consistently saw from him last yr, the fact that his knees are bone on bone and there is no cure, and the likelihood they worsen the more he plays on them. I respect the opinion that some want to see one mor eyear for him and see what he's got, I personally have seen enough that I support the amnesty now plan
