what am I missing?
No, they’re TOTALLY subsidized by the NBA. Complete money pit every season. No cash made ever.I'm all for there being a WNBA, but there's a reason why they don't have their own practice facilities (tho why they aren't afford the opportunity to use the NBA teams PFs....), and there's a reason why they don't have their own individual locker rooms, or get better pay.
They're subsidized big time by the NBA...

They are professional athletes also and in essence deserve a bit more luxuries if you will. However, until they start bringing in way more money, that will be easier said than done. Same goes for women's soccer and basically every women's sport. I don't watch women's basketball myself as I find it very monotonous and boring, but do respect the work they put in.
My daughter met Sophia Smith at PDX Friday on here way to Utah for some games. Smith was on the way to Kansas City to watch her boyfriend get drafted to the NFL!Women’s soccer is a lot of fun, the Thorns are just as enjoyable, if not more-so than the Timbers to watch.
You see the end of that Thorns game last night? Absolute miracle finish!Women’s soccer is a lot of fun, the Thorns are just as enjoyable, if not more-so than the Timbers to watch.

Crazy thing is, the NWSL is the highest level of talent of women’s soccer in the world. Like the NBA and basketball….. and it STILL gets no love. MLS is probably what, MAYBE the 10th best? Can’t force people to love something. Too bad, they are missing some great stuff.I’m not making a case for or against your statement, but everything you said is subjective.
What sells to you may not sell to the masses. I think it’s unfortunate that they don’t have equal pay; but when it comes down to it, they’re getting paid to entertain others. If the product just doesn’t appeal because there is something more enticing to the average consumer, I’m not sure that there’s an argument.

Don't disagree, but my point is that unlike basketball, women's soccer is as good, or better, than men's soccer. Soccer itself is not for everyone, I get it, but I am just pointing out that you should give them a shot because they are extremely skilled and very fun to watch.
Certainly holds true for Volleyball as well.I’d rather watch women’s soccer than men’s.
So what’s the point of the league then if it doesn’t make money?
Publicity for the NBA and empowering girls sports are two great aspects. The marketing can help the NBA generate more money itself, so while the WNBA directly losses money, it could indirectly contribute to more money for the entire NBA portfolio. The WNBA money losses are so insignificant compared to total NBA revenue. Yes the league needs to manage how much the WNBA losses, but it certainly doesn't need to try to completely eliminate those losses.
