Watch the video for yourself. This is absolutely disturbing that people would stand there and not check her out if she's at least ok, or what happened. Then the dumb cop/security doesn't even get out of the chair. May she rest in peace.

That's awful, just awful. Everyone there who could have done something feels terrible now, I'm sure. But there is no excuse really.

Holy shit. I read the headline earlier, but didn't check it out. I am absolutely disgusted that they ignored her. Absolutely disgusting..

She was waiting in the ER for 24 hours before she collapsed....they have since agreed to attempt to reduce the median wait time to 10 hours, which is joke anyway....workers also falsified the reports by claiming they took her vitals at times when the video shows she was already dead on the ground....so far 6 have been fired

There are so many hospitals like this in the US that it is disgusting. Even the hospital that I would go to if I (god forbid) had an emergency. I've been in the ER to get stitches before after I attempted to dunk (yeah, I know I'm stupid), not only did I have to wait for 3 hours while I was bleeding, they wouldn't even give me a paper towel. The ER was packed that night and people were screaming and moaning all over the place. It was like something out of a horror movie. At one point my mom had to help a women into the bathroom because she couldn't get up and the nurse (that wasn't doing anything but sitting there watching everyone) said she was "too busy to help right now". Something really needs to be done about all this.

How the hell did that policeman just stand there...

What the ****, this is crazy. I feel bad for the lady. RIP

It is crazy ZAE. Unless you're dying, they don't care, and apparently now even laying down on the floor, won't get any attention.

Where is the govt when you need it?

Since my wife became sick, we've made half a dozen trips to the ER....our average wait time in the lobby is between 10-12 hours and once inside, our average wait time is another 6 hours before she sees a doctor....and then, after all that, they have consistently done nothing except drug her with morphine and discharge her asap....Ive stopped taking her at this point, if she needs to go, I call an ambulance....

I hear you Beef. And thats what they say, call an ambulance if you don't want to wait. (and then the bills kill you)

Im not concerned about the bills at this point, whats another $750 on top of the $120k already owed? It might as well be a billion dollars, Im never going to be able to pay it off unless something miraculous happens like a lotto hit....

Geez, people here always complain about how terrible Canadian wait-times are but I've never heard of anything that bad.

The morphine thing is pretty universal, though. Some parts of modern medicine annoy the hell out of me.

So the insurance isn't helping at all? Have you tried getting the health medicare plan from the state?

No insurance, when she got sick, and was in the hospital that she worked at for 7 days, they discharged her and "layed her off"(translation=fired her) the next day, stating to me, and I quote, "Its not personal, but we need someone who can come to work"....

Damn thats so bad man on so many levels. Have you thought about suing the hospital?

I know this isn't the funnest thing to do but go to you're local welfare office and ask what can be done about helping out with the hospital bills and receiving state insurance. It's going to take a while and you are going to have to fight with them most likely but it will be worth it in the long run.

I contacted the most powerful lawyer in town, the one guy that I knew could take them down or alteast scare them into settling, and listen closely to this part: I go in, give a deposition, after he takes my statement, he says hold on a sec, he leaves the room, comes back in a few minutes later and says he cant take the case, its a conflict of interested becasue hes on retainer from the hospital....so he basically took a deposition under false pretenses knowing that he would see us in court if we got that far....now when I contact the other lawyers in town, they wont take it, because they are afraid of him and because we already gave him a deposition....

Wow. Shit like this, and the stories you guys are telling me, makes me embarrassed to be an American.

there is no state insurance in Florida, but we have since been approved for "share of cost" medicaid, which means if the monthly bill goes over $1900, they pay it all, if its under that, they pay nothing....but it took months to get that, and it doesnt cover the bills already assessed....also, she 100% disabled, she cant get to the bathroom without assistance, but because no doctor has been able to diagnose what the cause is, we cant get disability yet....its basically a nightmare on every level....

Thats very sad. Can another lawyer from out of town take the case? (like from another state for example)

So how long has she been disabled? If you don't mind me asking Beef.

That lawyer should be fired, he knew he was on retainer for the hospital. You need to keep going lawyers that you haven't been to yet and keep trying. Maybe even talk to AEM, he might know something that you can do.

Horrible situation. I can say that hospitals in New Jersey are closing down in a rapid pace because the state is in the worst financial crisis ever. As a result hospitals become more and more crowded. In my own personal experience, I had to go to the ER a few years ago on a Sunday afternoon, and there was a mass of people there.

Mental hospitals are even worse because they are being phased out because they're old/outdated in favor of a more clinical type hospital or outpatient treatment program. The report mentioned she had been admitted the day before and had been waiting for a bed. Overcrowding in Psychiatric hospitals have been a problem for decades.

As for what happened, I'm guessing either the people there are dumb as rocks, willingly ignored her, or thought she was just causing a scene because she was mentally ill. Either way, the doctors and the orderlies covered it up by saying that while she was lying on the ground, she was going to the bathroom or sitting up. Then the smoking gun in the form of the video came up and now they're completely fucked.

November 27th was the 1st day she complained of dizziness and double vision....within a day, she couldnt stand up....

So 8 months later and the docs still don't know the diagnosis?

How old are the kids? and how are they coping with it? And she's able to talk right?

She can talk and she can see, just not well enough to balance on her own....she uses a walker around the house and a wheelchair if we go to the doctor....the kids are 8, 7, 3 and are used to it now, but they all have had issues....the hospital was so heartless that after they fired her, they contested her unemployment becasue if you cant work, you arent eligible....then when the unemployment kicked in, after a hell of fight, it cancelled the food stamps becasue it put us over the income limit....like I said, a nightmare on all levels....the unemployment is over now, and it takes a while to get the foodstamps, so August would be the soonest....so I work three jobs, take care of 3 kids and a handicap adult, cook all meals, do all the shopping, and still we slowly sink because I make just under what we pay out and thats if we ignore all the collections calls from the medical bills....in my spare time, I fight the government and the counterintuitive social programs that reward those that refuse to work and ignore those that are killing themselves to make ends meet....Im 31, I havent slept more than 6 hours a day in months, I average around 4, my hair is turning white, its falling out in patches, and I have violent hallucinations when I sleep that seem so real that Im often scared to even try....Im diabetic and cant drink alcohol or Id likely be a drunk by now....but I will say, its theraputic to talk about, because I have very few outlets to vent....all of which make me the logical choice for Commisioner of FUN!!!!!

The govt is messed up man, I live close to Springfield Mass and I see it here, how people that don't work, are perfectly healthy receive benefits, whether its food stamps, mass health (like medicaid), and on top of that money to spent. And again they're perfectly healthy and able to work, they're just lazy and enjoy ripping the dumb govt.

Then you see people that work day and night yet will never get a break from the govt.

So she was very healthy before and then suddenly this happened?

Have you tried contacting the media and see if they can help with the cause to get the govt to help you with the bills and everything else?

Our medical system has always pissed me off, I would really try to invest more money (if possible) into that if I was a politician.

Have you tried to get her on disability?

Geez, that story is unreal. It actually scares the hell out of me a little.
