I'd say Oregon is pretty close to Georgia's current level... especially considering that Oregon doesnt have the benefit of being in a HUGE Hotbed for Recruiting. They seem to lose their homegrown kids to away schools like the State of Oregon has recently as well (Suh, and Owa)

They probably forgot the "state" :devilwink:

That being said.. I do fully admit homerism aside, that Oregon would be more in the "Light Heavyweight" category.

The Heavyweights are still. USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, and Ohio State.

The Light Heavyweights for me are teams that are just a tier below.. could and should be in the running for a NC every 4 or 5 years... LSU (they teeter between the classes thats why I put them here), Georgia, Oregon, Boise St., Miami, and probably FSU again real soon.

Is USC still a heavy weight after getting bitch slapped by the NCAA?

You could be right.. but for not... USC is still a school that recruits come to.... not the other way around. They are still heavyweights to me until proven otherwise.. when/if they start losing then they will jump come down in weight class IMO.

whoops forgot to put Nebraska in the Light Heavyweight category.

You aren't a light heavyweight if you have only won a conference title twice in 46 years, both times being a tie.

If your going to put Nebraska in there, then you need to put Michigan and Tennessee as well.

yeah but if we are gonna base it on the program's history then Oregon wont be in it. Michigan and Tennessee right now are a step below IMO. But maybe I was generous with Nebraska.

I'm sorry Tlong.. I respect the hell out of your program, and what Riley has done. But at this point in time they are the step below. Top 25 program, who can challenge for the conference a few times a decade. And Possible National Title shot around once a decade, if all falls in their favor.

We're every bit as good as the Ducks. I guarantee you that. We're going to put the hurt on your team on December 4th!

and you guys might very well be as good this year. But I'm talking programs.. as overall.. not just this year. And like I said I respect the hell out of the Beavs and Riley. But the programs are a tier apart currently.

Check the teams' respective records over the last 10 years. I don't think you'll find much seperation.

Over the last 10 years both schools have played 125 games. The Ducks won 87 and the Beavs 80 or... 70% to 64% respective winning percentages. The Ducks and the Beavers have both had losing seasons in the past decade going 5-6. Oregon did it in 2004, OSU in both 2001 & 2005. Also of note, by far the best season the Beavers enjoyed over this past decade was 10 years ago when they went 11-1... their only other double digit win season was in 2006 when they went 10-4. The Ducks have had 5 double digit win season in the past decade.

I'm sure if we compared end of the season rankings we'd see similar separation. Light heavyweight and jr. light heavyweight seems about right... considering where they'd been prior to that, fans of both schools should be absolutely stoked. Hopefully both schools will stay clear of the injury bug and have another meaningful end of the season classic :chestbump:

They sucked before Pete Carroll got there, and I suspect they will suck now that he's gone. Those lost scholarships will really hurt them.

The last decade was very good to Oregon. We were definitely one of the better teams in the Nation over the last 10 years, IMO.

I just hope we have an even better decade now. It all starts tomorrow.

The Nike connection helped a lot with National exposure, and only in the past couple of years have people around the country considered Oregon a relevant team, and even a power.

I'm proud of this program.

The ultimate answer comes down to recruits and which big time players want to play where. Not the same level sorry. I'm sorry I really dont feel like getting into a homer fight, thats not my game. I try and be objective, I would hope you would to.

youre probably right... but the school has been built up, until they falter I have to keep them where they are personally.

What words make Duck fans hearts sing?

"Phil Knight just donated another 100 million to the athletic department"?

"Chip Kelly just signed a 30 year extension"
