WORLD SERIES PICS...

I just don't anticipate KC doing very much vs Mets' top three SP while I do expect the Met lineup to get their share of runs vs KC SP.

Best KC can hope for - imo, keep games within one or two runs and make every game a bullpen battle from 7th inning on.

Royals in 5.

Pics or picks??? :devilwink:
this pic always struck my fancy. O'Neill, #21 on top of the pack, good thing they rarely if ever, wear old fashioned steel cleats

^^^^^^or..... I have not made up my mind........as
to who wins, but it will go 7 games.

This was tough...........I would love the Mets to win,
but the brain wins................KC just missed last year.
They won't let it happen two years in a row.

KC in 7.

^^^^^ it's pretty even actually.

............▪ The 1970 Orioles, beat the Reds after losing to the Mets in 1969

............▪ The 1977 Yankees, beat the Dodgers after losing to the Reds in 1976

............▪ The 1989 A’s, beat the Giants after losing to the Dodgers in 1988

...it also happened in 1907 1923 1927 1931 1935 1940 1943 1944 1956 1958 1961 ...that's 14 times a team lost the WS the year before, then returning to win it.

...conversely, teams have lost back to back WS 12 times....again, not much of a difference.

It could be worse, like the 1991-1994 Buffalo Bills.

...Rick, I always thought those Bills teams got a bad rap...I mean, other than the Bills, no one has even come close to going to the SB 4 years in a row...incredibly hard to do, especially nowadays when it's so hard to keep a team together.

...the Buffalo Super Bowl teams that lost those 4 SBs had what, 4-5 Hall of Fame players?

Ron I'd agree with you if a few of those SB loses were close but with the exception of the 20-19 loss to the Giants in 91 they pretty much got bitch slapped in 92, 93 & 94.

As far as going to the super bowl 4 straight seasons other teams have come close like the 1974-1977 Viking going to 3 & going 12-2 in the year they didn't make it (1976) And the 1987-1990 Denver Bronco's who also saw & lost 3 SBs in that time frame.

Two of the latest three examples did not favor the returning WS team which lost the previous WS.
'77-'78 Dodgers
'91-'92 Braves
'10-'11 Tex Rangers

I don't believe this KC SP as a whole can keep the games close enough or out- pitch the Mets' SP which doesn't bode well for KC's chances of turning games into 5-6 inning affairs with their bullpen protecting leads.
Conversely, imo, all indications are the Mets' "SP" will usually give you at least 6+ GOOD innings.

SF Giants were able win last WS with a couple/few mediocre(at best) SP but needed an all time historic performance from their ace pitcher Madbum including a few innings of relief on short rest in game 7.

Mets have a couple of aces and one outstanding dominant # 3 starter (Syndergaard).....and Matz has definitely held his own as a #4.

Met lineup is capable of scratching enough runs to support their pitching including Cespedes who had an MVP-like 2nd half while continuing his excellent overall production prior to his arrival with the Mets on July 31....which incidently, helped the Mets' overrall offensive production stats for the regular season.......sorry Kevin......without Cespedes, "your" Met hitters would've accumulated even less than humdrum total offensive stats as a team...
...yawn, lol

......Mets were able to beat Kershaw and Greinke in LDS scoring 3 runs in each game by virtue of deGrom.
(and their fine closer Familia).
Harvey gave 7 IP 2 ER in his start vs LA's #3 SP which also gave the Mets an excellent chance to win...which they DID.

The longer 7 game series (WS) should favor (imo) the Mets' better deeper pitching staff even more vs KC's SP group.

Appears to me, at least two of KC's SP BETTER step up and pitch very good games or in the words of Yogi (sorta).... it gets late very early around here......for KC.

...none of those teams even lost 3 in a row, but whatever. The fact is that the vast majority of SBs are blowouts but that doesn't mean the losing team was not also a very good team.

...the point is, the Bills were unfairly labeled as "chokers" even though they were great teams.

One of the very best games ever televised, (other than the Heidi Bowl, of course) was that 92 Season's Wild Card Playoff game, on Jan. 3rd 1993. I could of swore that game was played in Houston, but it wasn't, it was in Buffalo......

Reich takes back the game after a halftime 28-3 Houston Lead, followed by a 35-3 lead in the early 3rd Quarter, when the Oilers scored again. The rest is History, Buffalo and Reich claimed the WC. 41-38........and 3/4ths of the TV Viewing audience turned the channel at Half-Time.......

...being a Raiders fan I remember the Heidi game vividly...for whatever reason my local TV station did not switch and I got to watch the incredible ending to the game. Raiders scored 2 TDs in 9 seconds to beat the Jets in Oakland.

...the Raiders' field was painted so cool back then.

Bills did earn the right to be called "chokers" just by finding a way NOT to win at least ONE Super Bowl in four straight attempts but if we want to look closer....Jim Kelly.

I like Kelly and glad he's doing okay with his health problem.
In four Super Bowls:
2 TD, 7 INT
Highest QB rating in any Super Bowl was 81.5 and wasn't higher than 67.1 in any of other three. Comes up very small for a Hall of Fame QB.

And of course, just for good measure, Norwood missing a 47 yd FG ATT in the closing seconds.
Kelly's bad SB numbers is one of the better kept "secrets" in Super Bowl history........and of course he had help in losing all 4 Supe Bowls....

Yes- IMO, they earned the right to be called "chokers".....
Losing back to back Super Bowls is one thing...losing FOUR IN A ROW is absurd.

Wow, my TV was cutoff, with that damned Movie........someone really fkd up, never heard what happened to those who were responsible?

Nice point, about the Raiders Field painting, lets bring it back, ya' think anyone would listen to us?
