Trains are designed to have clearance over dead moose and cows. He probably carefully placed obstacles for weeks to measure the clearance. Still, some loose mechanical part could have been hanging, or some heavy tree branch picked up a mile back might have been bumping underneath at 45 mph.

I think it did. You can hear the wheels squealing towards the end of the video, but did you see how fast that thing was going when it came around the corner? There's no way they could have stopped that thing before it got to him. Dude booked it after it passed over, which leads me to believe that he didn't want them coming around asking questions.

Remember, trains cannot stop quickly:

* A 150-car freight train traveling 50 miles per hour takes 8000 ft. (or 1.5 miles) to stop.
* An 8-car passenger train traveling 79 miles per hour takes 6000 ft. (or 1 1/8 miles) to stop.

I think if they find out who this person is they should prosecute.

I think it's pretty badass. I wouldn't do it, but I can see how thrilling it must have been to decide to do it, plan it, and then lie down on the railroad tracks... having to wait until it was too late to move.

Then hearing and feeling the train rush over you, knowing that if your planning has gone wrong or if there's a mechanical issue or anything else bad happens that you hadn't thought of, your life is forever messed up. Unless it's ended.

So I can see the appeal, and I can guess at the thrill he got. The scary thing is what he will try next... and the sad thing is that he might never find something to one-up that train.
