Maybe this is just a sign that I am psychologically incapable of enjoyment (it's called anhedonia) but it seems to me that the media have wildly overreacted (I know, shocking, right?) to the game 1 win, and that they've decided that Dame is God. Well, they're right about the second one, I guess, but even God struggled to lift this team at times during the year, and our defense is still atrocious. It's a bad sign that game 1 was the first game we won while scoring so little ALL YEAR, which suggests that the Lakers got us to play their game and just lost it. It just seems like EVERYONE is giving the Lakers motivational material right now (and it's a good thing we don't have to play the Warriors because of shit like this:

Yes, I think the Blazers are being overrated by the media. I think Barkley bringing out the broom Tuesday night was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen him do, and that's a pretty high bar to clear.

Yes, being backed by Barkley is pretty much the kiss of death. But I think he's doing it mainly to needle Shaq, who still has Laker loyalties.

The important thing is that the team isn’t overrating themselves. They know what it will take to get past the Lakers, which won’t be easy. The media is just riding the hype train, wouldn’t surprise me if the series went 7 with each one being a knock out fight!

I think our defense is absolutely perfect for the Lakers. Nurk and Hassan bring solid interior defense. Our perimeter defense is still as porous as a colander, but that’s great against the Lakers. An invitation to shoot an open 3 pointer by anyone but LeBron is pretty much the same thing as a turnover.

judging by his waistline, I don't believe Barkley can clear any high bar

I doubt we'll ever be rated exactly right, so we're either under-rated or over-rated. At any rate it hardly matters when they start playing the game.

I predict that LeBron try's to get 40 at least. They wont win if he has 17 assist. The Lakers need a mega scoring James not a dime dish'er.

If it were just one game, I'd consider it a fluke. And it may still just be a fluke, but A. the Blazers have been playing pretty great basketball overall lately (as displayed by their wins, even if that "overall" has been heavily biased to their offense) and B. the Lakers have been playing pretty bad basketball since the restart.

So the Lakers might not "just have had a bad game," they may legitimately be in a funk at the worst time (for them). And the Blazers, I think, are legitimately on a roll.

I hope he does. He and Davis can't score enough by themselves to beat a good team. I think James realizes that, which is why he was passing so much--he wanted to get his teammates going, because he knows he needs a solid amount of scoring support.

I mean, if he can score 40 while dishing 17 assists, then yes, that would be enough--but I find that unlikely. If he scores 40 while his non-Davis teammates stand around and watch, I think the Blazers win again.

He knows he cant count on others besides Davis to score especially from the three. Id much rather have him passing the ball all night than trying to take over a game himself with Davis.

Is Rondo playing tonight? I’m a little concerned about how he can change the dynamic for the Lakers. Better guard defense and he allows LeBron to play more off the ball as a pure scorer.

I think he was just upgraded to questionable. His vet leadership is definitely a concern if he does play.

The most important thing is that the team doesn't think they are overrated but rather underrated. After the win there was no elation just the realization that it is a single step on a very very long path. The media needs readers and ad money that's it. No serious fan of the sport thinks Portland is a favorite to win any series at this point. Such "experts" should put their money where their mouth is and BET on the blazers. Not a single one of them would do it. Kellerman would not put 10 large on the blazers to beat the lakers.

What happened to Danny Green?

A. I wouldn't call it "great". The Blazers have certainly played great in spurts, but they've also been abominable (3rd quarters), and most of the play-in games were against teams that didn't really need to win or (Memphis) were supposed to be worse than the Blazers.
B. The theory was that the Lakers were playing possum. Obviously that doesn't apply to the first playoff game, but you've got to think that the dominant Lakers team of this season is going to make an appearance SOME time. You're not telling me that the Blazers' Mighty Defense has put them in their place...

Yeah, some of the media hype is a little over the top. Not sure they even believe what they are saying.
And yes it makes a difference....not in how the Blazer play but in how LeBron and AD respond.
I hate to dwell on our depth, but I just can't see it not being a problem as the series goes on.

He would bring defense, but he doesn't help at all with their main problem, which is shooting.

Is he still a good defender? How old is he? Hope Dame just destroys him

The main problem is that people who have a reputation as a good defender seem to get away with murder on Dame. The refs won't call jack shit.

He cant do that anymore, he cant dominate his man one on one, he cant finish inside as he once did with Whitside blocking the shit out of him 3 times.

He has to expend energy on defense, setup their entire offense, and play over 40 mpg.

Lebron is still amazingly effective, but hes not a one on one elite scorer. We had more trouble guarding caris lavert one on one.
