Cannot understand when a pitcher has an 0-2 count
on a batter, then proceeds to give up a hit.
There must be other pitching errs that annoy fans. :MARIS61:

You touched on the BIGGEST Pitching screw up, why not waste a couple pitches, down and out of the K-Zone....let those trying to protect the plate with 2 strikes on them, chase gopher killers, or outside/inside down and out sliders.....Pitching 101, you'd think all Pitcher's would thinks as much, or do as much...! But NO....! Bloody fools, what are they trying to re-invent the wheel to a square one?

...for one, once batters get 2 strikes on them, they're supposed to approach things a little differently and go into a defensive mode as far as protecting the plate. Of course, not all batters do this but most do.
...secondly, "wasting" pitches is somewhat subjective because some pitchers prefer to attack when ahead in the count while others tend to "nibble. But nibbling can also make the pitcher's pitch count go up quicker than it might otherwise.
...thirdly, pitchers don't always throw the ball where they intend to...if they did, there'd be no walks. Next time the Yanx play, take note of where McCann sets up with the target and how seldom the pitcher is anywhere close to hitting that target. If a batter smokes an 0-2 pitch, he simply hit a "mistake".

Phil Hughes AS A YANKEE was guilty of the 0-2 pitch for a hit.
Drove me crazy.

...^^^lol...true, but Hughes basically only "used" 2 pitches...and he could not locate either of them to save his life.

Excellent Point 59.....

I agree with not necessarily wanting to waste a pitch, and elevating pitch counts: (as I mentioned earlier)....

Now that you got me back on track, YOUR RIGHT....Take Greg Maddux for example, he never needed to waste a pitch, rather hit the lines, and paint all corners, attack attack and so forth....not wasting any pitches...Maddux almost always threw his first pitch for a strike.....

Or-take Bob Welch's K of Reggie we posted not long ago....his mentality back then, My best stuff and power against Reggies power, Power vs Power, or a mix up of pitches, either would be fine....

I rescind my thoughtless statement...Can I blame it on the fact I just woke up at 11am? LOL. No i can't cuz I often think that way (as if I just woke up), when I've been up all day.....
