With all the retired numbers that the Yankees are giving out it had me thinking about a few other players who had nice career & never got there numbers retired by there teams like.....................

#24 - Dwight Evans (Red Sox) 19 years, 8 GGs & one of the best right fielders I've ever seen.

#6 - Steve Garvey (Dodgers) 14 years. GG 1st baseman, 300 avg, 8 ASG, 4 WS appearances (1-win)

#39 - Dave Parker (Pirates) 11 years, GG, 2 batting titles, 300 avg, 79 (We are family ws champs.

#29 - John Smoltz (Braves) 20 years CYA, 3000Ks

#29 - Mickey Lolich (Tigers) 13 years, 200 wins, near 3000ks, 2-20 win seasons

#26 - Boog Powell (Orioles) 14 years, 4 WS appearances winning 2

#3 - Ken Griffey jr. (Mariners), 15 years, 10 GGs, 400 HRs, 10 ASGs

And then you have #25 Barry Bonds (Giants) 15 seasons, near 600 HRs, 300 SBs, 2 batting titles, 5 MVPs, 12 ASGs, & 5 GGs. BUT.............do the Giants put him on the same wall with names like, Mays, McCovey, Ott, Marichal, Hubbell, Cepeda & Perry just to name a few?

Though I'll never understand or agree with Smoltz making the HOF I do think the Braves should honor him.

I think he's worthy... going from a multiple all star starter, having a major injury to where he missed over a full year, then changing from starter to bull pen (needing to warm up faster) then back to starter again (again needing to adjust his warm-up routine)... 8 all stars, 1 CYA, 154 saves in 3+ seasons coming off a major injury after being a starter, I think he was worthy, (not worthy of 1st ballot status)... Over 200 wins AND 150 saves...

I've gotta check Bums retired numbers, cuz I don't think they have Dusty Baker retired # either. The conundrum here has often been mired in, all 4 Bums INF's came up thru all levels together, and supposedly were instrumental in more Series losses by far, than wins, then Lopes, Cey and (give me an effing break: Bill Russell, will he throw it away or boot it???), should all go in together. I personally disagree, Garvey shit yeah, that dude sold tickets, enough to fill the field level 1st base side of Women In Bee Hive Hairdoes with their cat calls, of (In a real high pitched voice, while surrounded by 20+ Women surrounding me in my field level seat, and they all wear enough perfume to fill all of Paris Brothels), hiiii steve.....! and Steve would wave, smile ear to ear, and say: "Hi Ladies".

Baker and Cey should go if Garvey goes, as those 3 all hit 30 HR's in the same yr. incl. Davey Lopes, who've I've never been a fan of......

No wonder he cheated on His Wife.....

Rob if I remember correctly there were 4 players that hit 30 HRs in the same year (76 or77) you forgot about Reggie Smith.

Your right, there were 4 players who hit 30 HR's in 1 Year. and Yep, I did forget about Reggie Smith. Easy to in a way, since Smith came from Boston after a longer career than he did in 5 yrs in LA. Yet, He was the 4th Bum to hit 30 in 1977.......I tend to think of a non-power slugger, who had golden glove hands in 71-73 Willie Davis; also fleet a foot, could steal many times more bases in todays game...

Rick... Spot On. especially Evans,Parker,Smoltz and Boog (Boog likes his barbeque)

as a kid, watching Boog in Oakland, Boog was a GIANT on the Field, both with bat and glove.........

I'd not see as big a player as Boog, not until Don Baylor came to be.....Boog was 1 of a KIND......

Powell was 6'4 230 lbs. The Giants had a pretty big guy also named Stretch McCovey. But the biggest guy I remember was the Senators Big Frank Howard 6'7 255 lbs.

Amen, (how I forgot McCovey and Howard; is beyond me, tho' Willie was kind of slim compared with the Defensive End that was Boog Powell), and Yep, Rick, Howard WAS indeed the biggest guy I've ever seen on a field......
