Biebs (age 25): 10 mil, 10.6 mil, 11.2 mil
Crabbe (age 25): 18.5 mil, 19.3 mil, (18.5 mil player option)
total: 28.5, 29.9, 29.7

Deng (age 32): 17.2 mil, 18 mil, 18.8 mil
Clarkson (age 24): 11.5 mil, 12.5 mil, 13.4 mil
total: 28.7, 31.5, 32.2

Doesn't help with the salary cap, which I think is a must in unloading Crabbe's contract. We get a worse contract in Deng, but there's upside.

Honestly, I'm not sure, just wondering what others think.

No, Deng is too old and has too many years left on his contract. He used to be a great defender and good enough scorer to be the 3rd option on a good team but his performance has really fallen off a cliff and isn't going to get better - ever. He's never been a good 3-point shooter, but is now approaching Andre Miller levels. He'd be a very poor fit in Stotts' offense (or pretty much any modern NBA offense).

The basic idea was to take Deng who would have some use, and get the best player in the trade in Clarkson.

Your numbers are off. All 4 contracts only have 3 years left. Everyone expires on the 19/20 season. The Crabbe & Clarkson contracts include what they already were paid this year.

I like clarkson for our 3 guard with Dame and CJ but Deng to many injuries last couple years.

No thanks. Clarkson puts up meh numbers on a crap team - always a red flag for me. Somebody has to score, even on the worst teams, and Clarkson isn't exactly efficient.

Plus, the biggest reason to trade Crabbe is to dump his salary. Taking back an equally bad contract for an old guy in rapid decline with a PER of 10 makes zero sense.

Understandable. I'm not advocating for the deal. However, for as much as people bitch about Crabbe and Bieb's contracts, there are clearly things they find worse!

That being said, right now it's only 10-8 against making the trade.

With Mozgov instead of Deng it would look a bit better as we get a backup C and his contract costs 2M less per year. But still I'm not really sold on Clarkson's ability.

So we pay more to equally bad set of players. Actually, Crabbe is better for us than Clarkson and Leonard at $10M should be easier to get rid of than Deng at $17M.

Deng is possibly the worst contract in the league alongside Noah and Mozgov. I don't get why they gave Deng and Mozgov $32M a year combined. I understand they had a lot of spare money due to salary cap going up by over $20M but surely it would have been better to set this aside for future than spend it on crappy players who never really showed much (Mozgov) or a 32-year old who was certain to decline significantly. Teams that did not go crazy last year, like Denver for instance, will have fun in 2018 free agency with much less competition and better players available.

Deng is a PF who played SF most of his career. I'd play him there if we did get him.

He's taken a serious beating over the years. He was 19 when he first played (I believe). He's 31 now, which isn't too old to play. His game has taken a serious decline since leaving the Bulls - I don't think his heart is 100% in playing anymore.

He is one of the best people, period, in the NBA. He'd be a huge plus in the locker room.

At this point in their careers, I like Aminu better.

Deng is actually 32, and he has three years and $54 left on the 4-year $72 million deal he signed with the Lakers last July (what in the fuck were they thinking?).

That's the kind of guy you bring in on a vet min, or at most, partial MLE contract, not at $18+ million a year for the next 3 years.

I didn't talk about his salary, just gave my scouting report on the player. I saw him play for over a decade in hundreds (if not thousands) of games.

You can't separate the two. You can't get the player without also getting his contract. Since you've seen him play so much you are well aware that he isn't close to the same player he once was, which means no way in hell do you take on that kind of contract for someone who is basically a "locker room presence". You can get that for a lot less than $18+ million a season.

I sure can separate the two, and did.

I didn't at all suggest we take him on, though now I would add: except maybe if he were to pass through waivers (which he wouldn't, IMO).

There are a few circumstances where taking on his $18M contract would be OK. Like if we ended up saving $30M in salary/yr in a bigger deal.

If we wanted Deng, there is actually a chance that the Lakers waive him at some point.
