The Pelicans seem to be in disarray right now. Zion is “trying to buy into their system.”

The Pelicans are actually playing better with Zion and/or Ingram off the court, which is wild.

Would an Ant, Shaedon, Zion core be a potential contender?

Plus Ayton. Great young core.

No. He's paid way too much and he's been hurt more than just about anyone else in the NBA. He's reportedly had attitude issues.

Scoot is clearly off to a bad start to his career as a Blazer, but we'd have to move Scoot AND salary/pieces to take on Zion just to pay his massive contract. No, thanks.

Right now? No. I would have traded a package including Scoot for Zion before Dame asked out. We just don't have the leadership or team that's ready to make sure Zion is engaged in trying to win big to think that we would be a different situation than his current one.

This is kind of a moot point, because there's no way it would ever happen.

HOWEVER, since you ask, you almost have to make that trade if it's offered. Scoot may turn out to be a very solid player (although I'm betting it will take at least three years if it happens), but Zion already is one of the biggest difference-makers in the league when he's healthy (see last season). I'm not a huge fan of his game but he's basically a shorter Shaq.

Of course, if we trade for him then the very next time he plays his entire leg snaps off.

Yes, this is a message board. The question was asked to spark discourse.

No...I'd rather keep Reath and Williams for the future backing up Ayton. Too many flags, too much salary . Don't see any upside to the risk.

Actually, I think New Orleans would do a Grant/Scoot for Zion. I think that is a good deal for them.
It is really difficult to know if we should though .......without knowing Zion on a personal level....and doing a physical.
There is a lot more to evaluate than just what we as fans see on the court.

Here's the only remotely plausible Scoot-Zion trade:

(stress on "remotely")

Plausible for who? Certainly not the Blazers. Why would we offer Ayton over Grant (who plays the same position as Zion)
Plus New Orleans likes Valanciunas, I think Grant fits better with New Orleans
Plausible for comparable value purposes. No way in hell New Orleans would consider Grant. And Ayton is a more mobile defender than Zion, so if you can play Zion next to Valanciunas, then you can play Ayton. Ayton is effectively a PF given his lack of back-to-the-basket game anyway.
