Would you wear your teams colors/gear at opponents stadium?

A couple days ago another death after a game. a 24 year old dodger fan went to the giants/dodgers game in sanfrancisco. After the game at a nearby bar he was stabbed to death over a sports argument.

This is happening too often, beatings, stabbings, throwing beer cans and other stuff. I used to go to go watch the Blazers beat the sonics with a sonic fan friend, never had an issue. But times are changing. I just don't think I'd sport my teams colors anymore. I saw what was looking like a brawl-to-be at a Ducks/USC game a couple years ago before a gaggle of cops showed up just on time.

I certainly wouldn't wear colors in California.

Each situation is different, but the extreme violence (stabbings, shootings, murder) seems pretty exclusive to CA teams, no? Maybe I only hear of it because I live here, but I thought it was pretty much only Giants-Dodgers and Niners-Raiders where fans were maiming and killing each other.

I'd rock visiting team gear in any NBA arena. As a Raider and SF Giants fan, I wouldn't wear either team's colors if I was attending a game @ Dodgers, Broncos, Niners, maybe Chiefs or Chargers. I'd rock G's gear in any other ballparks though. Raiders colors kind of invite goading, but I don't think I'd feel unsafe at pretty much any other NFL stadiums other than in Denver and SF. I've been to 49er games, and just wore neutral, non-descript colors. Niner fans will act like Raiders fans are savages, but if you go to the Stick you'll see they're just as trashy and shitty as the fans at the Colliseum. Last few murders in that rivalry were Niners fans killing Raiders fans, I believe.

I really don't understand wtf goes through people's heads who decide to go to a Friday night Giants game decked out in Dodgers gear or ANYONE going to a Raiders game jocking other teams colors, especially the colors of a rival. You're going to get harrassed endlessly guaranteed, and probably a few drunk assholes will approach you trying to start a fight. And worse can and does happen at times. Not saying that's how it should be, but these people hear the reports about fans getting KILLED at games. You think some Giants fans aren't more violent after one of our own got beat within an inch of his life? And there's going to be shitfaced people EVERYWHERE. Just makes no sense to me.

Yes. But I don't go to laker games anymore because I get into fights. I can't even watch games at bars because I want to smash a lakers fan every minute.

Clipper games are fine usually though. Last time some little kid started talking shit and I sonned him pretty good.

I have been to Blazer games in Seattle and Oakland. No Blazer gear The Fans in Seattle were always kinda rabid, but in Oakland they didn't seem to care. Of course that was back in the day when they rarely won.

I have worn Blazers gear in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Oakland. I have gotten trash talk but never felt physically threatened. On one occasion the trash talk went over the edge and the other Kings fans (this was in Sacto) called the guy out, saying trash talk is one thing, personal insult another. I also had home fans try to get security to kick me out for cheering for the Blazers (doesn't work, I am not screaming obscenities!)

This is just sick.

In '92 I lived in Chicago and got to see a lot of Bulls games...it was good stuff and they obviously were fun to watch. It was just the start of their run and they were a lot more likeable than in their later years, so I'd cheer 'em on in most of the games I went to. When it came to the Blazers, obviously all bets were off. The Blazers played a pre-season game in Chicago and I wore Blazer stuff to that game and it was a huge mistake. Dude next to me lit up a cigarette and exhaled every breath right into my face. The usher was right there and ignored it. I also got a bunch of choice words/threats thrown my way. When the Blazers came back in the regular season, I wore a Bulls hat and cheered my guts out for the Blazers. No one said a thing to me. It was like that Bulls hat put a magical forcefield around me and the nimrod Bulls fans became docile.

I could do it because I didn't mind the Bulls that much back then. That technique wouldn't work with the Lakers, OKC and a couple other teams because I wouldn't be able to wear their gear without throwing up.

As long as you aren't a dbag there is no reason not to sport your teams colors in 90+% of arenas/stadiums in this country.

Of course there are exceptions... San Francisco (Football and Baseball), Raiders, Dodgers, Ducks & Dawgs, and LSU.

Semi related, I went to the Redskins @ Raiders game yesterday, and there was no violence. More Redskins fans than I suspected, though I suppose they've got a large fanbase and probably there's tons of DC transplants in the bay. Plenty of good natured ribbing and joking around, but no fights and no drunk assholes instigating, though the atmosphere after the game was more tense as the Raiders (see: Matt Flynn) played like shit.
