I am impressed with Trenton. He is officially our Bruce Bowen. Hassel is way better defender than Wright. I got to give kudos to Kiki and Thorn for acquiring him. We finally have a bonafide defender in Hassel. He'one of my favorite players now.

Hassel was AWESOME tonight, his defense is better then wrights and the offense doesnt stagnate when he's on the floor because he is a mid range shooter, i'll take hassel anyday over wright and twice on tuesday. F stackhouse and george

I can't believe he's only 28. I think this is yet another streal of the trade other than for his contract.

he's a hustler, plain and simple, difference is, he's a vet who's confidence will not go down after one play making him anemic like wright. got some key rebounds, drew some key charges, a saavy vet

I guess we'll be keeping him around for a while. He's a major pest, and I just love it. You need that type of player when you're facing Kobe, Lebron, Mac etc.

He looked like a real emotional leader out there; his hustle and defense seemed to play off on to the rest of the team.

problem w/ Wright was inexperience and at times just the faith in a kid to be something he couldn't. Hassell has experience and he can stop chuckers like Kapono and Nocioni's so we got a F to to stop chuckers and now thinking about using Harris /Williams vs speedy guards like Calderon should be interesting.

Hassel is like a Ferrari and wright's like a Honda....................I'd let u decide it

Best surprise of the night. I haven't followed him. I only know his reputation. Tonight he lived up to that as a terrific defender. He also hit a couple of nice opportunity jumpers. If he can give this on a regular basis, the change in the trade will be a blessing in disguise.

Now if only Thorn could get us a dead eye shooter before 3:00 PM tomorrow!

Oh, and though it's only one game, I have no problem saying Hassell is MUCH better than Wright. Wright hasn't defended that well his whole time here.

i def. agree with FOMW, wright was a decent defender but was somewhat overrated, hassel has the physical tools to be a lockdown guy, deng couldnt even post him up, he'[s much stronger then wright as well and gets more deflections

our defense is vastly improved after the trade

harris, diop, hassell >>> kidd, allen, wright

hassells defense tonight was GREAT!

for once in a long time i was excited about the game tonight and they have me believin in them again

b4 it looked like no1 gave a crap, evryone showed effort tonight

how funny would it be if the mavs miss the playoffs and the nets make the playoffs?! haha

I'm not minding that 3 year contract.... wish it was for less, but the guys a pro.

Nooooooooooooo! We need the Mavs to get at least the 8th seed so we can get their pick. It's lottery protected this year.

i guess he was the reason thorn didn't need that second round pick after all.

His interview was pretty funny. When asked about what he brings, "Energy, experince and defense..yup that's it."

Least he's honest.

I said this before. "The Capital" (LOL) is better than Wright in every way except he is ridiculously overpaid.

I'd much rather have him on the floor than that scrub Devean George.

I wasn't fond of Mark Jackson's style at first, but he's won me over. That was hilarious! And I hope it sticks. Hassell, for the rest of your time with the Nets, you are "The Capital."

What you saw tonight is exactly what he brought to Minnesota all those years he's been there. Especially that one year KG got MVP - Hassel was their best perimeter defender, and an important part to that team.

I'm sure he can give this on a regular basis. He's a total upgrade over Wright.

The fact that he's only 28 only makes it 10x better.

hassell is like a smarter and more experienced hassan adams but less athletic...he is ferocious on defense! he's already one of my favorites...

wright uses his superior lateral movement, footspeed and balance to pester an offensive player much like jkidd...he is always in an offensive player's face...i dunno why he is so uncoordinated on offense...

Slept through the game--but there's no reason to denigrate Wright! He is a very solid defender in his own right. That's his only skill; at least give him credit for it!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Kid Chocolate @ Feb 21 2008, 03:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>what did he say about the capital?

hassell has always been solid</div>

He said Hassell's nickname is "The Capital" becuse Trenton is the Capital of NJ.

That caused Marv to be silent for about 15 seconds before making a strange, soft groaning noise.

Watch Hassell resurrect his career here while George slips away to the retirement home!

i loved it when hassell was already bumping nocioni out of position even before he got an airborne pass coming to him...he never gives an inch! he is also always there to try an take a charge...

Wright is pesky and moves his feet very well. But what I noticed with Hassell is that, despite looking less athletic than Wright, he manages to stay just as close to his man and his sheer bulk keeps guys from being able to move him. He's a power defender with veteran respect from officials, apparently, and is allowed to be physical. If last night was any indication, he will be a substantial defensive upgrade over Wright.

Vince compared Hassell to DA in that he's one of those tenacious, disruptive defenders guys you just don't want to see guarding you because you know you are in for a very long night.

I'll also point out that he showed considerable team defensive intelligence, especially on that crucial stop at the end where Gordon drove and the ball wound up going inside for what looked like a wide open dunk and Hassell read the play, darted in and deflected the pass, preserving the win. I'll reserve judgment for a few more games, but he looks like a big upgrade over Wright overall.

I saw that too. He'll do well here because Frank values team defensive concepts and players with good Bball IQs.
