I think we can do better.
And that means POR can contend against OKC and SAS, not to mention DEN, MIN and LAL? Just not seeing it. But that is on meIf Dame is not a shell of himself, you find a way to add a top 15ish player to play with him and Deni.
Yeah, before making a move we need to see two of the following:And that means POR can contend against OKC and SAS, not to mention DEN, MIN and LAL? Just not seeing it. But that is on me
Are you sure, cuz I thought i was first! You know you don't win anything for being the first to give up on/ call a player a bust, right?
Deni can still improve but it won't show in points if we add Dame and another established star. It would be better A/TO ratioYeah, before making a move we need to see two of the following:
A Dame at an all-star level
B Jrue doesn't decline
C one of Scoot/Sharpe/Clingan becomes a playoff caliber above average starter.
Two of those happen and a trade for a top 15 player then we'd have a chance at being in competition for 3rd in the west.
Would need at least one extra big move on top of that to have a realistic chance against OKC or Spurs.
If we are going to make an allin move to contend I prefer doing it at the trade deadline when we've proved those A-C items. Just too many what ifs to make that gamble now when it's likely costing us some of the best traded picks in the NBA. Those picks could have us contend within ~5 years.
The first thre names is tall order at this stage (no offense) but the last 5 is doable. I think Dame benefits from having better teammates. His entire Blazer career post Aldridge he is the defense's top target. Be was making ridiculous shots off the dribble. His three pointers are some of the most tough shots I've seen, he was amazing. Now other teams have to worry about Deni and Kawhi or whomeverDame would have to be better/equal to: Luka, SGA, Ant, Kyrie, Castle, Booker, Curry, Ja, and that is just the west. who else?

Deni seriously needs to learn to drive left and to make his free throws.Deni can still improve but it won't show in points if we add Dame and another established star. It would be better A/TO ratio
So kinda like an all star snub? Not an all star but people are not happy that he isn't.When I said A Dame allstar I wasn't concerned with him actually making the team. Just playing at a level of an all-star or borderline all-star player.
what makes you think that's him?
Did you look at the post on Reddit? It’s (probably) not him, I was just joking… See attached photo from that post.what makes you think that's him?

We're not. Even with Dame we don't have an advantage against OKC or San Antonio in the starting lineup. And both are deeper and younger than we are.I am still trying to figure out how POR is a contender once Dame is back?
Gotta learn how to tank correctly to win that... Just sayin. We're not. Even with Dame we don't have an advantage against OKC or San Antonio in the starting lineup. And both are deeper and younger than we are.
We're going to need two more Deni level fleeces to be considered a contender (not just trades). We'll have to absolutely rob a couple teams to improve the starting lineup enough without sacrificing depth (in fact, we'd have to improve depth at the same time).
We're probably more likely to win the lottery.
You can win it once without tanking correctly. I wouldn't count on it. But Dallas shows it can be done.Gotta learn how to tank correctly to win that... Just sayin.
Obviously it depends on the player. Wemby makes you close. Flagg gets you on the way. Edwards gets you moving in that direction. Risacher, Cunningham and even Banchero are not going to make this team a contender. So out of the last 6 it's about 50/50. This years pick seems to be a toss up? Not sure he's a sure bet.You can win it once without tanking correctly. I wouldn't count on it. But Dallas shows it can be done.
Again, I certainly wouldn't count on it.
And here's the thing ... Winning the lottery once probably wouldn't make us a contender either...
Hansen putting in the work, I sure wish I could see more videos and pictures of Sharpe doing the same. I’m just hoping he turns the switch and not playing much in playoff games will be that trigger that convinces him he needs to improve because he’s more talented and more upside than any player on this roster
Posters still hanging their hopes on Dame or Jrue turning back the clock to being All Star level talents... smh. It's like we're supposed to respectively engage with an adult who sincerely believes in the tooth fairy. Barring a fleecing level of a trade, the only realistic hopes this team has on real improvement next season lie with the three young lotto picks + Hansen taking steps forward in their games. Based on normal career arcs, thats likely to happen, but how much is the question. I agree with you that Shaedon has the highest ceiling for improvement. While the impression of his mental makeup seems to be he's lacking a killer focus on becoming great, my caveot hope with him is that he has battled a number of physical setbacks (labrum tears, calf strains) that have held him back. I'd love to see him and Scoot have a couple of seasons playing 75 games & getting the chance to see what happens.Hansen putting in the work, I sure wish I could see more videos and pictures of Sharpe doing the same. They both fit together fine if your goal is to lose 70 games. I think the team sat Yang and pushed for the playoffs to try and garner widespread popular support for the BILLION DOLLARS they'll have to put up for the new owner's demands. If Thomas gets his way, I expect he'll gut the team to the planks and tank as hard as possible. Dame might not even play for us. This is why Adam Silver keeps looking Portland in the eyes when he talks about other teams tanking. Both Donovan and Hansen taking steps forward could be even more important as quality size holds great value in today's game. They obviously don't fit well together, but could return a stud player who rounds out the team. I'm looking forward to next season.
STOMP

Thing is, it'd never happen. We could have Wemby, Luka and SGA and Silver be, “the face of the league will be… Brunson from NYC!!!!!!!!”Na, we just need to draft or acquire a player that the NBA decides they want to make the face of the league. That way they can get away with shit like throwing Wallace to the floor like a rag doll in front of god and everybody.
I kid....but the truth is....getting over in the NBA, is about measuring up in the rank and file they want. If they don't want you, you'll never get there.
My low opinion of him. What indicates he will tank?
