It just goes to show you the Yanks were never not going to spend the money.

Good to know Gardner will be here for the next few years.
Good homegrown player, excellent outfielder who should be entering his best years. Good news.

I like Gardner and I am not hardcore opposed to this deal, but I think it's a bit much... I don't think he's worth that much... and I really thought he'd be used as a trade for someone like a SP/3B/2B/RP... Like I said, I like him, but this doesn't make that much sense...

I thought for sure he would be traded. Shows how much I know.

Wait, you still may be right unless there was a no-trade clause. He now has more value in trade because he is signed to what I feel is a serviceable contract

Now that the Yanks have broken the seal regarding contract extensions, do we see a DRob extension so on?

Agree Hammer, 13 mill for a .268 hitter with no power and has 2 good steal seasons is a joke. Now, at that number he's untradeable without eating a good chunk of the contract. Guess those minor league outfielders that have been touted like heathcott and mason are way way way way way down the line.

Didn't even think about the kids in the minors, but that is true... guess it does say that

With Beltran/Ichiro ahead of them there is plenty of room for those prospects, especially with injury risks. I think this Gardner deal plays nicely for the Yanks and the future of Mason, et. al. Whoever isn't the frontrunner can become a trade chip, packaged with a catching prospect for a more long term 3B, then next offseason's focus can be 2B and Pitching. These glasses are rose colored.

Keep in mind that we're going to need a SS also.

Yeah, my thinking is, Cash actually makes a trade for a solid, young 3B for said package of catching/outfield prospects and they can look at the free agent crop for short, 2b and pitching next offseason.

Maybe somehow they could pull off a coup with the Tigers for that Iglesias kid.

Ugh, something that just occurred to me; next offseason will be filled with questions surrounding Arod and whether he's coming back all over again! If he does, I can't see him being much more than a full time DH.

I honestly think this is the true reason Jeter is calling it a career at the end of this season. He knows this is will be the last fun spring training he will have

I thought the ND kid we drafted last year was going to be our 3rd baseman shortly.

Eric Jagielo --> your long term 3b
He's already been put on the fast track to the majors. Thank goodness.

I sense that if this kid DOESN'T become a good player/3b for the Yanks within 3-4 years or so, it will be a surprise.
From "everyone's" opinion, this was a good pick by the Yanks.
Good lefty hitter with power who has also shown good enough defensive skills at HIS position.

This is the Yanks. I can see him in 4 years and certainly hope he becomes a homegrown player that makes it on to the big field. Still leaves a few years to fill. Hopefully Beltran/Arod are the full time DHs next season so the outfield prospects can get up here.
