RHP - Adam Warren, (2-2 4.50 ERA)

VS.

RHP - Jordan Zimmermann, (3-2 3.66 ERA)

Yankee NOTES: To fill the roster spot left by Ellsbury the Yankees called up Slade Heathcott. Personally I was hoping to see Aaron Judge.

Yankee lineup to follow....

LF - Gardner
RF - Beltran
1B - Teixeira
C - McCann
3B - Headley
2B - Drew
CF - Young
SS - Gregorius
P - Warren

...not looking too promising today either.

...Warren needs to bring his A-game.

We are starting a reliever against the hottest lineup in baseball. I hope we have Arod at 3B today we need the offense. It'd be nice to get a split here before coming home. It's been a shitty road trip, cap it off with a win.

He pitched well in his last start....and yes, I know it's still May but I think this is an important game for Warren. If he turns in another good effort it could be a real indication that he's turning the corner, and could be figuring it out and showing definite progress.

Warren isnt turning the corner, he's not a starter. He's awful as games go along. He's given us 6 innings once. He is consistently taxing a bullpen he should be a part of. Warren is a ML pitcher, he just isnt a ML starter. I hope he can go out and get us a W today, but he's the one leaving the rotation when Tanaka returns if it is up to me and I'm no fan of Capuano.

Good to see Heathcott make it all the way "back".
One time 1st round pick is still young.
We've talked about (prior to and during ST) how the Yanks will probably have to use one or two of their better minor league pitchers as well as a couple of their better positional farmhands as the season goes on.

Judge may not be far away, Pirela is already here and Refsnyder could be just one more long slump by Drew from getting the call.

I don't enjoy saying this but, Drew could also be a couple few good games (hits) away from "hanging around" a little longer.

I would agree at this point, the Yanks should just call up Refsnyder and relegate Drew to backup SS/2b duty.

But I'm curious to see how the Yanks (Girardi) would find a good amount of playing time for both Pirela and Refsnyder.
SS is not one of Pirela's "positions".

Don't want anymore injuries, but it looks like we WILL be seeing a couple of the kids sooner than later.

Sometimes we DO get pleasant surprises.

Refsnyder v Pirela playing time isnt an issue as fact is there is only room for one of them as a reg. Whoever shows some consistency first wins basically. Pirela's future to me looks to be that of a utility guy. Play a little 2nd, little 3rd, they'll likely have him learning the OF at some point assuming his bat shows itself to be worth the trouble in the majors.

As for Heathcott he had a .693 OPS in AAA before this callup. Glass Joe isnt a ML prospect. It's nice for him he got a call, but it shows the ML ready portion of our system is still shallow.

NL rules.

...oooops...I'm down here at the beach trying to type from me cell phone...that was supposed to read "DH only"...not sure what happened.

...anyway, the point I was trying to make is that with Ellsbury out the defense has already been weakened somewhat...no sense playing ARod at 3B and weaken the defense further. If nothing else, Headley is still a much better choice at 3B...and so AR should be in the line up as a "DH only".

Not sure Headley is the better 3B vs AR, unless were talking range factor, lol!

When you say Warren isn't a SP, you must mean he won't become a "good"/ decent ML SP....because he was in fact a STARTING PITCHER throughout his minor league career from 2009- 2012.

He pitched in 90 games and was the STARTING pitcher in every one pitching over 150 innings in each of his last two years in the minors.
He ended his minor league career compiling a 3.11 ERA and 1.25 WHIP and averaged less hits than IP and 7 Ks per 9 innings.

He was drafted and was a SP from his first minor league game.

I'm not saying he'll be an all-star or a very good SP, who knows?
He hasn't been used as a SP in two years and it could take a little while for him to find his rythym and mechanics.

His last start - 7 IP, 3 ER,.....
......and I AM SAYING maybe if he has two good consecutive starts
there's reason to believe he could be starting to develop into a solid young SP for the Yanks...and that would be excellent for the Yanks.

I'd rather have him trying to reach his potential and higher ceiling than Capuano.
Matter of fact, if, if Warren continues to show progress we won't be seeing much of Capuano in the SP rotation.

Ah......to be clear, Warren will never be a decent ML SP. He is a ML RP. I don't care what he did on the farm.

I would've liked to see Heathcott get his feet wet immediately.
This isn't a playoff game....jeez.
That kid is a gamer, can go get the ball in the outfield, and plays full speed ahead.

Honestly I think Warren is best used as a long relief guy. And I'm not liking what I'm seeing so far from him tonight.

Desmond has homered on consecutive games, a God Damn .248 hitter. Why can't the Yankees .248 hitters inflict some damage. Warren looks very shaky out there, could be a very long night.

Beltran continues his hitting streak. Has raised the average quite a bit.

Because the teams they're playing aren't running shit pitchers like Warren out there.

Warren seems to have settled down. And nice bunt hit against the shift by McCann.

Hanging curve off the top of the wall and over makes it 2-2.

Drew, you are amazingly consistent no hit each time at bat. Damn gift wrap that guy and send him UPS back to Boston!!!!!

The score early and then nothing the rest of the way trend continues.
