OH HELL !! No Crapuano, That's just wrong.

Lillie I'm guessing its because Ryan can back up several positions.

I'm hoping they can get to Keuchel early. He's on short rest so make no be sharp right out of the gate.

A new season hopefully starts tonight.

I do not anticipate
I will not reiterate
I may have to recuperate
But dear God do not have me constipate!

That about sums up my feelings!

Ellsbury is not in the Lineup but Gardner is????????

what the... got to give the man credit, he seems to be able to top all of his bad decisions with another better then any i have ever seen.

Ok Girardi will be on The Michael Kay show in 5 minutes. Can't wait to hear this.

So the choice between Ellsbury and Gardner became Bret Gardner. Here were their splits against lefties this season which I guess was the deciding factor.

Ellsbury 39/154 .253 2hr 11 RBI
Gardner 47/110 .276 3hr 22 RBI

^^^I started to post the same thing...but here's the problem with Gardner, he loves to work the count which is fine vs sub par pitchers, but vs someone like Keuchel he can find himself in an 0-2 hole very quickly...and Gardner's splits with 2 strikes are discouraging to say the least.

If Gardner struggles I think it's likely both Gardner and Ellsbury get two ABs tonight. It was obviously a toss up between the two and Gardner won out. Young you simply can't keep out of the lineup because you have him on the team for tough lefties and he's .300 against Keuchel.

Without over-analyzation and getting too involved in how a guy might hit with two strikes on him, or possible bloop hits, costly errors, hard hit balls hit directly at a fielder...crappy ball/strike calls by the HP ump ect.....

IMO - it will come down to Keuchel, Tanaka and one reliever in a key spot from each team.
If one SP falters a bit and the other pitches well, some team is going to need to get a couple of runs off the opposing bullpen.
If both pitch well - same thing.

If one or both leave one too many pitches out over the plate, then it could be off to the races.

Not the time for a SP to stink up the place...I guess that's why they say "the name of the game is pitching"........from the first to last pitch.

Oops.....this sounds too simplified.
Good pitching "stops" good hitting (or drastically slows it down)....
....great pitching stops "everyone"!

There are few "clutch hits" and/or opportunities if your team pitches like horsesh!t. Too little too late!
Gotta be in it to win it. That's why the HR is a beautiful thing especially in BIG GAMES/post season - is anyone really expecting the Yanks (or any other) to put alot of "hits" together vs Keuchel? ...or any other GOOD SP?

great nite for baseball....

go yanks

it was until i saw lineup, never ever would i have thought ellsbury would be ridin pine, this makes absolutely NO sense, the guy is a proven PS player , no way in the world you can come up with a valid reason for him being benched, reg season stats mean squat for PS play... i cannot believe this, the most well rounded player on the bench in a do or die, WOW

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised by this. I mean you think a guy is good enough to give him a 7 year contract for $150M dollars & then basically tell him that he's not good enough to play in a crucial game. Sounds a little fucked up to me.

Do you have Girardi's black book?

Yep, Ellsbury does have good post season success in his resume.

Okay....the show goes on....maybe Gardy will get a couple of hits and Young will plant one in the seats. Just one of the many choices and decisions the GM.....er, I mean the MGR makes during the season game in and game out.

Keuchel throws ground balls.....wouldn't mind if GJG uses the hit and run earlier in the game when the Yankee batters are ahead in the count.

Nah....he doesn't do "hit-and-run" plays. Does he?

...the Yanx are not built for the "hit and run"...especially not vs a strike out pitcher like Keuchel.

But they are quite capable of hitting a ground ball and with the runner in motion it keeps the team out of the DP and just might find a hole through the infield.
Nothing flashy.
I like it when the opposing infield isn't sitting in rocking chairs waiting for routine grounders and DPs.

Girardi is the one who didn't have the various hitters get the feel for it and have it as part of their state of mind by employing it on occasions...he could've done it here and there through the season and if he wanted to play it safe and not "mess up" the hitters or was concerned with it failing, he could've done it when the team had a 2-3 run lead once in a while.
jmo

Oh well, for another time.
Go Yanks!

...for the most part, not enough contact hitters and not enough speed for hit and run.

Tanaka has to avoid the gopher ball.
Keep it close- Betances and Miller are both on call for 2 IP.

Very worried about Houston hitting the long ball.

Didi and Refsnyder up the middle for a post season game for the Yanks.
Bird on first.

Don't know what the final score is going to be, but the Yanks have three kids already getting a taste of being post season starters.....I like it.

Has to be a beneficial experience for them - good luck boys, and remember,
..you are Yankees!
