No to Winfield?

No to Winfield?

IMO Winfield is in because of his 3000 hits. That's pretty much an automatic.

I'm puzzled about the relief pitchers. Yes on Gossage & no on Sutter? Honestly don't think either one should be in there. And Sutter winning the CYA in 1979 was a Joke.

Yeah your probably right here Rick....Winfield did earn his way...3,000 hits, I have no qualm with 3,000 hits as a guidline to a HOF consideration.

I saw both Sutter, and Gossage, quite frequently in Chavez Ravine in both's day. Honestly, I was never ever impressed with Sutter. Seems he was always having control problems, only when I saw him in L.A. Maybe I jinxed him as the White Rat Herzog loved Sutter, and Gossage, each time I saw him both as a Yankee, and as a Padre-moreso, Goose was always just fireball, glove smack explosive and dominating, whenever I saw him. A great seat field level, only 7 rows from the field right at first base, we had a great view of his smoke, Senor Smoke....I always thought, I could hit off of Sutter, (of course I was quit a bit younger then), and always thought HELL NO, I would NOT want to face the Goose, or Ryan, Koufax, Marichal, Bob Gibson, Sudden Sam when he was still an Indian..... and alot of others, fastball hurlers that blew afterburners.........

Add MO to that list right up top if you please....:flying:

My problem with Sutter & Gossage in there with around only 300 saves is how do you now justify keeping out guys like Lee with almost 500 saves, & Franco & Wagner with well over 400 saves. Especially Wagner (422 saves) with a 2.31 ERA & a 0.998 whip.

Well, you do indeed have a very valid point there, why do you think Lee Smith isn't in there? Or both Franco or Wagner....Hmmm, you got me on this one. I know this is why I would never get a HOF voter credential....LOL....

You are right tho' I have to eat my words, and rescind my comment about Goose, no doubt, yet someone saw something in him, I'm not sure what, maybe the dominance overwhelmed them, but shit so did Lee, John and Billy tooo. Those guys were great in their era's.......all of them. Yes, even Sutter...just not when I saw him, I think he may of been out on the Tinsel Town with a babe under each arm all night, then woke up hungover and had to go to the park late.......I'm not sure, something went afoul here, when he was in L.A.
