I was listening to the Zach Lowe podcast from October 10th and they both said we are their pick to miss the playoffs. And then there was the gem where Elhassan said that we only won against Houston because we were *laughs* the worst possible matchup for the rockets.

Lowe was slamming us all season last year as well. Fuck that guy.

Oh, Lowe writes for Grantland now? Guess someone has to bash Portland with BS suspended if he still is. The other guy is also ESPN right? All you need to know.

Nobody and I mean nobody was saying we were the clear favorites against Houston. This guy is full of shit. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

You're always right if you are a flip floppy piece of shit.

"Blazers won't make the playoffs."

Blazers make the playoffs.

"Now this is that surprise team I was telling you about"

Absolutely Nate. Not even you and I thought they'd beat the Rockets. Of course, we'll make the playoffs but it won't be easy. Teams like Utah, NO, and Phoenix are on their way up the standings. Who knows how good Wiggins will be. The Wolves have a better team for Rubio now. It's gonna be murder. But Dame and LA are top 10 players in this league. We will be fine. #1 seed is possible.

Wonder if they would bet even odds with me taking the Blazers to make the playoffs? Papa needs some new toys!

Bro, Rubio led TPUPs were horrible! Without Love, they will suck. It's gonna take wiggins a good year or 3 to be the player everyone expects him to be.

I was listening to that podcast as well and im pretty sure both said that they dont see any of the west teams falling out of the playoffs and it was a question as if one team fell off who did they think it would be.
I believe the reasons were because we did almost nothing to make us better defensively and if either LA or Lillard went down we would be screwed. The last one you can argue for any team though.

Elhassan - "If I had to place a vote, today, I'm going with the thinnest lineup and that would be Portland. Because they really can't afford any injury, anywhere."

Lowe - "I hate that we agree, because I was down on Portland all last season, and I was wrong the whole season. They proved me wrong the whole season."

Elhassan - "You weren't wrong. They weren't as good as their record was."

Lowe - "Houston fell apart in that series. And they got an other worldly first two games out of Aldridge in that series."

Elhassan - "But that was the matchups also, and that's the beautiful thing about the western conference playoffs. I remember last year we were doing playoffs, and people were like 'who do you like to come out,' you can't tell because the 2-7 may look good in one scenario with one set of teams, but with a different set of teams its completely different. With Portland and Houston, Portland was literally the worst possible matchup for the Houston Rockets because they feast one the things that Houston is like 'alright well we'll let you take that." That's the exact thing that they wanted, which is mid range shots. LaMarcus Aldridge had an other worldly first two games, that's true, but he also got a lot of looks that were clean and unencumbered."

These guys are fúcking idiots! Do they actually get paid to talk about basketball?

I guess Elhassan was one of only a couple dudes to pick us against the Rockets.

I can't wait until our bench becomes the other surprise in the league this season. I wanna hear how these tools handle hater crow another season

Idk about Portland being the worst matchup for the Rockets

Houston was certainly the best team by far for Portland to face, though.

Portland will make the playoffs but I don't know if they win another first round series.

Why do you think they were the best?

Its gonna be tough but I think they do it. Gonna have to take care of biz against the bottom feeders

The coaching thing is a great point. I'd have to give both Pops and Carlisle the edge over Stotts, though nowhere near as big an edge as they had over McScribbles. Joerger seems legit-esque, though I don't know that I'd swap he and Stotts in a series. Brooks and Jackson are good for a few dumb moves (or more) per series. I might be the only guy on the planet who doesn't think that Doc is the coaching swami everyone thinks he is. McHale, well...

I think it takes two injuries of >20 games from LMA, Lillard, or Batum to miss the playoffs, and good-to-great health from other teams. So no.

Frankly, they're the champs until they're not, and people say this every year, but SAS is one Parker injury and Kawhi not-quite-making-the leap from being a 7 seed.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if their Vegas bookies set this up to increase their chances at betting on the Blazers for a bigger profit. It's an old trick

I have no clue why I thought both said that they dont' see anyone of the top 8 from last year missing the playoffs. Listened to it again and nope not in there at all. Guess thats what I get for reading NBA articles and listening to a podcast as the same time.

They probably saw Aldridge's comments about him taking more threes.

. I might be the only guy on the planet who doesn't think that Doc is the coaching swami everyone thinks he is. .

I think you may be right. Doc's ability as a coach (and player) is his leadership ability. But as an x/o's guy.....he is just average IMO.
I do think he is a good coach, but as you say, he is no swami.

I think he's overrated too. If it wasn't for the coup that brought the Celtics KG and Ray Allen, it's doubtful anyone would know who Doc Rivers is anymore. Doesn't hurt to have players like Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and others in your holster.

I think a lot of people agree with you. Doc and Ainge were really on the hot seat until Kevin McHale gifted them Garnett. They had drastically tanked to try to get Oden or Durant, but they failed to obtain either of them. I seriously think that team was bound for another year or shit, and one or both of them would have been fired.

First, calling what Pops has over Stotts an "edge" is like calling Mt. Everest a hill.
Second, Doc is the most overrated coach in the league now that D'Antoni has been completely exposed as a hack.

Doc is overrated as an x's and o's guy but he is a motivator and players coach. Just like Mark Jackson.

Mills fills in great and they keep winning without Parker. That's just the way this team is.

Doc won COTY in Orlando. He was also a famous player from his days with the Knicks. I wouldn't have forgotten who he is. Avery Johnson hasn't coached in 7 years. Have you forgotten about him?

Doc won COTY because he lucked into a young Ben Wallace and he was in the leastern conference.
