I thought @hoopsjock was reporting that on draft night. Correct me if I'm wrong @BonesJones or hoopsjock. If this is a separate source that would be pretty interesting. Honestly I think that Joe and Mike's grade on Scoot was just too high for us to reasonably get Dame established help. I don't think Joe is currently trying to engineer a plan to keep Dame and I think Dame will be on another team soon enough. I think it was a very calculated decision from Joe and the only calculation that Cronin didn't account for was the idea that Dame would only put one team on his list and that Goodwin would spread all of that shit about Dame being disgruntled or not reporting anywhere but Miami.
there were whispers of Jaylen Brown to Portland floating around, but nobody took it too seriously. The BU podcast added a lot more substance to that rumor just recently. More or less, Lillard and Grant recruited Jaylen Brown, he had his bags packed, and Cronin didn't pick up the phone. Joe had his 3 rookies credit card, and never called nobody.
Eric from Blazers Uprise had a nice little chat with Heat podcasters yesterday, who were asking for a complete breakdown why Lillard submitted his trade request. Brandt brings up there was a real possibility that Jaylen Brown could have been a Blazer at 38:14. While adding some of the "swing for the fences" rumors were totally faked, leaked for Blazers PR purposes.
That was Hoopsjock not Bones. He's been very on point with his other reporting (broke the Grant trade news months early). I believe he has some real insight; although its more of a one sided story he's getting from Dame's camp.
Ok. From what I’ve heard from people in the building is that is not the case. Certainly not saying I’m right, but I have had conversations and that is not how the story went
It just feels like a bit of a stretch to believe that for a guy like Brown, who makes 30 million next year and is 26, was going to be traded for just Simons and the 3rd. There's no way that Boston wouldn't have asked for Sharpe too. I'm not really sure that Brown would've put the Blazers in a better position than they were already. To trade for him, they would've had to trade away a bare min of #3 and Simons (and likely more), and other future assets. All that, PLUS the impending almost 300 million they'd be paying him going forward, in addition to the already 200+ they owe Damian, would be a total clusterfuck to do. That team wouldn't be winning a title, and would be paying Damian, Brown and Grant 103 million (based on what Grant actually got), and would probably have no re-signed Thybulle too. So that team would be Dame, Brown, unknown, Grant and Nurk (those 4 alone are about 119 million in salaries), with an anemic bench. That team isn't better than the Suns or the Nuggets. Hell, I'm not sure that team even gets HCA. On top of that, Brown had almost zero leverage there. How many teams, where his situation would be good (good team etc.) where he'd get the money he got from Boston? This smells like spin that someone fell for.
The story I got was that Brown was talked about, but the price was not what the Blazers wanted to spend. Also were not 100% convinced he’d re-sign Teams knew the Blazers were in a bit of a pickle and were asking a lot for the players the team was targeting But who knows?
They probably wanted to pull a Miami Heat and get Brown for table scraps like they want to trade for Dame.
Yeah, I just don't understand why Boston would be interested unless it was a severe overpay from from the Blazers in which they could immediately reroute the multiple Blazer assets that they would have received. I understand it would have gotten them out of the brown supermax pickle, but it also would have been a major timeline reset right during the middle of their championship window. It just doesn't track.
Would have made sense from their end if Brown either demanded the deal saying he would leave in a year in free agency - or they just wanted #3 and Ant more than overpaying Brown. Danny Ainge probably does that type of trade for Boston as he always wanted assets. I certainly think Boston would be interested and consider it because Scoot is such a generational prospect. But ultimately it did make more sense for them to run it back and win now since they are legit contenders. So I could certainly see them demanding more from the Blazers which then wouldn't make sense from the Blazers end. Very possible with Blazers luxury tax concerns and concerns of Brown resigning they never were interested in it either, which certainly could piss off Dame.
Hollow threat, nobody in the league believes this. Probably Riley and Heat fanboys trying to push rumors for the Blazers to accept their weak trade.
If I was Dame and I wasn't the one pulling the strings on this type of bullshit, if I ended up in Miami the first time I did an interview with someone, let's just say Le Batard, I would say something to the effect that I'm happy to be here but the media and fans around here are wild and they put a lot of stuff out there about me that just wasn't the case. If Dame doesn't say something like that it's kind of easy to assume that he was at least complicit in it.
oh for chrissakes...check the link....it's Barry Jackson again flassportsbuzz = Barry Jackson, aka, Riley-Sock-Puppet
