With the draft now over and FA set to begin in roughly a week, I expect the trade chatter to ramp up. Teams usually get their trade business done before the opening of FA.

The draft went about as I expected. I knew we weren't going to trade for a vet.

    I like your thoughts, but
    1) let's see what FA brings before signing Davis.
    2) If you think of Shabazz as too expensive, Pat as a baseball player, and Layman as a surfer,
then you can see that we don't have too many guards. :) Also, Simons is a year away physically.

How much do you think PA is willing to go over the cap for the current squad after re-signing Nurk and Davis (or his replacement)?

    Here are Neil's choices:
    1) Use the Crabbe TPE and put us in cap hell.
    2) Lose his job.

There's really no middle ground. Last summer he got us zero vets. So far this summer he's gotten us zero vets.
We were just swept in the playoffs as a 3rd seed. We're way over the cap. If we don't use the Crabbe exception,
we're spinning our wheels (making lateral trades).

How much is he willing to go over the cap? As far as it takes.

Lonnie Walker 4th in San Antonio could be scary. He has a ton of potential at the next level. Screw the Spurs!

J, M and R.....thanks for making the trip/flights for the Draft party. Always great to partake with such knowledgeable fans. Thanks to B and R for your contributions as well.

Hope to do it again next year.

Actually wouldn’t it make sense for us to pick up Trevon Duval from the undrafted players pot? He is probably more ready to play than Simons and could be used as a back up point guard project.

We will be in cap hell anyway unless we let Nurkic go.

I doubt we can get that famous veteran help through TPE. We can get some average players who will maybe add 1-2 wins though. Then again Houston were pretty bad in 2016, then added some average players and let Howard go and turned into a good team in 2017. Thing is, they changed the coach too.

Help me, TPE, you're my only hope. The problem is that good players will fall through the cracks when their team chases
LBJ, but that won't happen until after our TPE expires (if I understand it right). E.g. Julius Randle.

I totally love keeping the future in mind on draft day. What I don't get is all the timeline and vet talk and then drafting one of the least ready players in the draft.

Believe me, I am a super believer in acquiring future picks. I also think that the Heat will project to be bad then. Look at the Pelicans last year though. The Bulls got the Pelicans' 1st round pick thinking they would fall out of the playoff race after Cousins went down. You can never know for sure.

As for Bayless, they have about $26 million in cap space potentially. Trading Bayless for nothing gets them almost $9 million more to that. Stretching him only adds about 6 million which isn't enough for LeBron. Cap space is a hugely valued commodity this summer. I highly doubt a team will waste their precious space for a couple of future 2nds. Why wouldn't a team agree to do that last night when the 76ers had picks 38 and 39 if they were?

Duval has no outside shot one reason he went undrafted.

well Rick Pitino called Olshey and said the kid was the best pt guard he'd recruited in 15 years.....coaches who know the kid praise him across the board...and fact is, we're not looking for a starting pt guard...we're looking for bench scoring...this kid will probably outshoot Bazz and Patty C all day long

I have no problem with Simons. I just wish Olshey wouldn't talk at all sometimes, ha ha. He is honest at weird times and then gets stuck having to put his spin on it to defend himself later.

I'm actually fully on board with setting up the future as much as possible but just find it strange that he would say they are done with the asset part of the plan and are looking for vet playoff experience and then go out and get a long term project.

To be clear I think we should still be acquiring assets.

I think Grayson Allen will be a good player. Utah made a good pick.

BTW, all these media types singing praises for Woj last night are pissing me off. Just like Woj did.

He was apparently muzzled and still went about spoiling the picks in his own self-aggrandizing way. WTF is the point of tipping a pick two minutes before they announce it? We get it -- you have inside info. Stop being an ass. Also, the dude should NOT be on TV-- terrible fit.

Can't believe ESPN fired their whole truehoop squad (shout out to the OG Henry Abbott) and Marc Stein, et al for this clown.

I can't see it, but maybe he will surprise me. Looked like a smaller Patty C to me.

Who said he was supposed to be muzzled? Is there an article on it?
