Can't say he is really out of shape or not. But, considering how he just dropped 22 pts against Canada and 26 pts against France, at least he is not grossly out of shape, if he is at all. If Marco stayed, it would be hard for me to say he will get a chance to play significant minutes next season. However, I can't also say he will definitely be buried either, because we only saw a glimpse of what Marco and Morrow can do last season, and neither players are proven at this point, meaning there is also a chance that Marco will outperform Morrow during the preseason and win the job. We gave up that potential and possibility for... George, who really has no chance of contributing especially under Nelson and current Warriors. And, we got nothing extra but the cash, because both Marco and George's contract are the same and expiring next season (if Warriors wanted to). In a big picture, this may not be too big of deal (providing that Marco becomes a scrub in Toronto). But, this deal does not help this club no matter how you look at it, and if you look at the logic of why this deal is made, it can be disturbing, because we just gave up expiring young and unproven player for a often-injured veteran player, who does not fit into Nelson's system and probably will not contribute to this ball club. Only positive we received was cash. Good GMs just don't make moves like this, and this happens to be the first official move for Rowell/Riley (and Rowell's unofficial moves weren't good either). Maybe, they will turn around. But, for now, I am worried...
That's not counting Wright's contract and possible draft picks (we sent Nets a conditional 1st pick for M. Williams). If you add all those, we will not have a caproom bigger than MLE. The only way to utilize this deal is by trading our expiring contracts...
Yes, that's why I'm a proponent of the Amare trade as long as we don't have to give up Curry. I wouldn't mind getting Amare for a guaranteed three years and a player option for the fourth and fifth years in order to get it done. The deal would be something like AB, BW, Speedy Claxton ($5.2 M expiring), Acie Law and the Warriors 2010 first round pick for Amare and Earl Clark.
I had to look this up and yes, this is sounds like another hurdle for the Golden State Warriors because of Marcus Williams. What a waste of a pick that was! The Marcus Williams trade involved our dp for 2011 and was conditional. The pick is lottery protected for 2011, so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-11. It’s protected 1-10 for 2013. If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets get second-round picks in 2013 and 2015. However, I believe the Warriors will be able to deal their 2010 pick because there is no guarantee that they will make the playoffs in 2011 and deal their pick then. I believe the league rules prohibit trading a draft pick after that occurs , not before. It's a loophole .
