the dude who does Pok Pok is supposed to do a burger bar out on 53rd and Foster...not sure, heard that last winter.
They got the crazy burgers. I used to eat there as a kid but will never go back after they were featured on Dirty Dining. Too bad.
remember "Spankys" (which became Spunkys) burgers? Jamie's (1950s style chain) Hot n Now...those were the days!
http://www.heartattackgrill.com Went to this place in AZ a few times. Obviously not Portland, but deserves a mention in any burger-related thread!
Wilson's in Hillsboro is epic. Even deeper west side, Rogue Garlic Burger in North Plains. But in town, someone mentioned Skyline, and that is legit. Cafe Nell in NW has a ridiculous burger as well. And certainly, as someone else said, you can't go wrong with a five guys. p.s. Helvetia.
There's a little dive bar & grill in downtown Milwaukie that has a bacon cheeseburger that drips off your elbow. Add deep fried tater tots and one can actually feel their arteries harden while they eat- my kind of food!
The only thing I enjoy more when I come to Portland is your wife. Seriously, this is easily the best burger in Portland.
I remember when those first came out, you could get 4 hamburgers for a buck. Then they switched to Spunkys and basically went under soon after.
Not to alter the discussion, but when we say "Best Burger", what kind of burgers are we talking about? There are the "gourmet" variety, with unusual topping and flavorings and there are the more traditional type. Lately, I've been really digging the more traditional type, something closer to sliders. Fewer ingredients, but those ingredients stand out. Don't get me wrong, I love something like a bacon, pepper jack, guacamole, green chile burger, but at some point you lose the essence of the burger itself.
Oddly enough, one of the best sliders I've had was at Buffalo Wild Wings. $4.50 for three of them during happy hour.
Foster Burger is pretty good. It is newer, and it has some nice burgers. http://fosterburger.com/ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Portland-OR/Foster-Burger/269194754706
the problem is usually those are thinner patties and they tend to cook them medium-well or so. They're more old school for sure and they do fill a need. I'm a fan of the gourmet burger...and my favorite burger type is the "hawaiian burger".
