Esiason gave clarity to what he’s been hearing Monday morning on the “Boomer & Carton” show. He said there’s a good shot Rangers captain Ryan Callahan will be traded in a straight-up deal for Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Boomer said the trade could include a conditional draft pick if Callahan, an impending free agent, decides to stay with Tampa Bay.

    ROTFLMAO

yeah its been reported rangers ask about martin st louis, nothing offered yet from what i read...... i can see rangers offering cally and have something in the deal that if he doesn't resign they get a pick.... makes sense.... i guess there was a fall out with him and steve y..... or else this deal would of never been even thought of. anyways we will all have to wait and see.

If it becomes teams out west making a deal for him I wouldn't be surprised if LA offers King or Stoll plus maybe a 1st or a top prospect. Justin Williams would be nice since he's signed for next year but i don't think they'd trade him. I'd rather they deal him out west.

“Contact was made between the Rangers and Tampa Bay and the offer was made of Ryan Callahan on an expiring contract to Tampa Bay for St. Louis who has one year left on his deal but it’s not going to happen. The reason it won’t happen is very simple, Tampa Bay does not want to take Ryan Callahan on an expiring contract. If he were signed, sealed and delivered for a number of years absolutely, they would love to have him. The price is too high on that long-term deal. If you are the New York Rangers, when the Tampa Bay Lightning ask for more than Ryan Callahan that is when the Rangers back off and say that they aren’t in a position to give up draft picks and prospects or young players for a 38 year old player. As much as we would love to have him in our lineup in place of Ryan Callahan, we are not willing to pay a premium to make that happen so right now there doesn’t appear to be a fit there.”

On Team 1040 in Vancouver earlier today, Darren Dreger spoke about Ryan Callahan and the Marty St. Louis situation.

On the Marty St. Louis situation, Dreger said “I know the Rangers thought it was amusing, the speculation and rumor about St. Louis for Ryan Callahan. I can assure you that if that deal was ever proposed that the Rangers would make it instantly.”

On Ryan Callahan, Dreger said, “Ryan Callahan is on the trade block and that is not a news flash. We talked about that prior to the roster freeze and there were no contract talks that would lead me to believe that anything is going to change. Callahan is going to go into auction and you will have teams like Tampa Bay perhaps, perhaps the LA Kings kicking tires to see what the rate of return is going to be but we may not know what the rate of return is going to be until trade deadline day.”

Wouldn't it be crazy if we deal Cally and Girardi in the next 9 days...

in my heart this is what i feel, either detriot going after cally, or what about vancouver and torts ?? i could see him wanted cally on his team considering he fits the mold very well. idk, i dont see st louis unless a pick is involved, but can't they do a sign and trade? i know its very rare but if they get cally signed and can trade him right away. IDK but im curious to see what happens

Vancouver is possible, but I don't know what would come back this way, maybe Booth who's signed thru next year, though he's tailed off some production wise. Maybe Anaheim for Palmeiri or Dallas for Cole. Boddker from Phoenix. All guys who are signed for the extra year but within 5m.

The Rangers want their cake and eat it too, but it dosen't work that way. If I were them I'd be willing to give up a 2nd or good prospect with RC for the extra year or St. Louis, who will still play at a high level next year. Then they can fill in the other pieces through FA this summer. They're stupid if they think Yzerman will trade him straight up. Maybe if they were both impending FA but still probably not.

I guess we'll know something is up if cally is held out of practice so Mr.Glass doesn't get hurt

Did Boomer say he will be pleased with the trading of Callahan?
I think he'd be pleased if a monkey wound up in a Ranger uniform. LOL

he goes west. Can you imagine Callahan in Philly?
Sather's not trying to keep Richards in NY.
a prospect &/or a top pick comes our way.
