I listened to three basketball podcasts today while toiling away in the lab. All three were very kind and had a bunch of good things to say. The pods were The Starters, NBA Lockdown with Bruce Bowen and The B.S. report with Bill Simmons and Zach Lowe. But the one that stuck out the most was Bill Simmons, who not only called Lillard a "Badass" but was listing his order for MVP and had Aldridge third, after Bron and Paul George, but actually ahead of Durant. Lowe had Bron, Durant, Paul George and Chris Paul all ahead of Aldridge and Love, whom he grouped together. Anyway, fun to listen to, check it out if you have a few. Also, Bill recanted last weeks suggestion of trading Lopez for Asik and said the team is just playing too well to do a trade like that now. He would not trade any of the Blazers top 7, but would look to trade Meyers or some other benchers for a player like Brandon Bass.
That would be awesome! Lets do that! haha. No way Boston does it, but I'd love to have Bass on this team.
Simmons has really liked the team since the preseason. Been giving us lots of respect all year. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Even though T-Rob is a bit of a loose cannon, I think he's our best bench player right now. Freeland is solid, Wright has been pretty crappy, and Mo Williams has been hit/miss, but T-Rob has provided consistent energy, and has a positive impact on the game with his hustle play. If we're going to trade for anyone, I'd want a new wing to replace Wright.
Found this thread on Dorell Wright from 2009, titled Why Dorell Wright sucks. Am I the only one seeing his suckaged this year? http://forums.hoopshype.com/forums/index.php?topic=46644.0 http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1149877
I still think we need to leave the team alone and wait for CJ to come back. He and Mo Williams are good for 25-30 points a game. It's not a stretch to think the others can get you another 15. I think the team is fine. Still waiting on Meyers though. Think along with CJ, he is the missing piece.
When BS screamed RIP CITY!!! in jubilation I literally pumped my fist and sharted a little. IDK why getting the Sports Guy's love means anything to me, but it's just great to have him on our side. He's a big time player in the sports world and now in this post-Oden world he's on the bandwagon.
He represents the passionate NBA fan. I think that's why it feels good, most other commentators are either thought of more as reporters or analysts, but BS is just a celtics fan who got a dream job. He presents himself as somebody who thinks a lot and talks a lot about the game, but doesn't really claim to be an expert. And he's funny.
This actually made me LOL. Yeah, what does Simmons know about "real" basketball? He only wrote a book on basketball that was the #1 NYT non-fiction
I think Simmons' in his pod cast recently is higher on Portland because he's watching more Blazer games. However, it occured to me the when he's on the TV, on ESPN pre-game (the same day he gave his pod cast and had LMA 2nd or 3rd for MVP), he and Jalen and the former Philly coach talked about MVPs, there was no mention of LaMarcus. They talked about George, LeBron, Durant, CP3... it reminded me of crap cable news with talking points - controlling the narrative and only speaking to what is popular, not necessarily what is accurate.
To be fair, he IS a Boston fan. And as much as he likes to talk about Portland soccer moms, the reality is that the same thing could be said about his bias and fan-dom for all things Boston.
Of course. And a lot of his schtick is talking about his personal fandom, his buddies', his favorites, his hates. It's entertaining, and to me (I've been a reader since '98) it's funny and informative, usually---even when he's way off. As for Vecsey, he hasn't been accurate, informative or funny in at least 2 decades. I mean, it's funny to me that Vecsey is someone that Jaynes follows on twitter, b/c he's (like Sam Smith) a dinosaur who hasn't been relevant in a while. Which is fine--but to see him trash Simmons (who, BOS fandom or not, really knows the NBA, and especially has a sense of NBA history and where current players fit in it) is especially incongruent to me.
I took the vecsey comment as a fun jab at another pundit, a 'we're all part of the gang' type comment. Jaynes retweeting it seemed to be taking fun ribbing and repeating it to make it into something much worse. Maybe that's just me though. First comment done with a dry wit, retweet as an ass.
