<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">The playoffs have nothing to do with the MVP. If this is your argument then Nash letting his team lose to the Mavericks in 6 games should rule him out as an MVP canidate.

Getting back to your point Bobcats, you either didn't watch the Suns series or were being sarcastic with your reply. If you saw the playoffs you damn well Kobe did everything possible to put his team in a position to win the series. It's not his fault when Kwame misses from point blank, and his team can't secure a defensive rebound.</div>

Phoenix wasn't ahead 3-1. When was the last time an MVP's team lost in the first round? Also, I know Kobe did everything he possibly could to help LA, but I'm not going to forget that game 7 performance. In the second half and OT of Game 6, his teammates wern't stepping up, so he took it upon himself to try to win the game for LA, but they lost. Game 7, the exact thing happens again, but this time he keeps passing to his teammates who arn't doing well, so why he doesn't do the same thing? I know it was Phil Jacksons gameplan to get everyone involved, but when nobodies stepping up, Kobe has to step it up and put the team on his shoulders. They might've still lost, but at least they would've had a chance to win the game, instead of getting run out of the gym. Don't think I'm coming off as a Kobe hater, because I think he's the hardest working player in the league and the best player in the league, but I can't stand Kobe fan boys (not you) who thinks he's untouchable and get jealous that LeBron and Dwyane are going to surpass him in the future.

That's strange, I always thought the MVP was decided on performances in the regular season.

Either way, Kobe gets it bad. He's slated for going with the gameplan and he would have got slated for being "egotistic" if he decided to go alone and win it himself.

Kobe will be under the microscope for the rest of his career. He is the best basketball player currently in the world. LBJ right on his heels. Kobe is the villian and LBJ is the hero. Its just the way it is. I really see Lebron James taking the MVP next season. He is the media darling and posterboy for the NBA. I'll be very surprised to see anyone else get close to LBJ's votes this upcoming basketball season.

I think if he gets assists and rebounds. And, keeps his scoring average. Plus the team gets a top 5 seed in the playoffs. It is his unless Wade has a bigger season.

With the team they have, there's no WAY Wade wins it.

It's either between LBJ or Kobe if you want to think of it as which star player has a chance.

The votes are all cast by then, they just aren't tallied. And you're right, Kobe does get it bad. No matter what he does, he gets criticized. Two great examples for ya. Last year, Kobe was criticized for NOT going back in during the 4th quarter of the Mavs rout when he dropped 63 on them. You know if he'd have gone back in, critics would have been all over him for going back in when the game was already out of reach. And then the other example was the 81 point game. People were calling him selfish for taking it all upon himself and then continuing to pour it on when the game was all but over. Do you blame him though? He had a shot at history, and he took it.

Ya, I was being sarcastic with the bit about the MVP in the regular season because the poster above had a whole post dedicated to how Kobe made poor decisions in the playoffs.

Kobe is not untouchable, but what you have kept talking about means nothing. To add to this, it is quite possible that LBJ or Wade could surpass Kobe (one never knows about the future, many things are possible obviously), but don't make it sound like it is set in stone. Wade isn't that much younger either. You don't have to take a bunch of shots to give your team a chance to win. You're suggesting he quit, but actually, his plan simply failed. There is a difference. One is going to fail at times.

Kobe's a great player, I just think at times we flip out when a comparison is going on.

The Lakers were down by 9 points at halftime, but then fell behind by 15 early in the 2nd half after back to back 3's by the Suns. Up to that point in the game Kobe was the only Laker who showed up, and his team will still getting run out of the gym.

The coaching staff decided at halftime the only way to get back in the game was to get everyone involved. Keep in mind, the Lakers defense is a product of their offense, and when the rest of the team isn't scoring they don't play defense.

With Kobe being forced to take over in the 1st half his team is down by 15. If he continued to carry the load, then what, you find yourself down by 30?

His teammates lost the mental battle after the Game 6 collapse.

well the Game 7 collapse by Kobe has been done to death, what I will say is that Kobe probably won't win MVP this year...and it's not just because the media dislikes him, I just think James is going to be that good this season.

Why not provide some reasoning instead of just a smiley? LeBron will be an MVP canidate, so I'm also curious why you'd overlook him as one for the upcoming season.

I agree that Lebron and Koobe will be up there in the MVP race, but a lot of people are over-looking Wade. He was the finals MVP, and arguably the best player on team USA.

Among the 3 (James, Wade and Bryant), In my opinion, Kobe is the most talented player. With all the Jordan comparisons from Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, Lebron James, etc., Kobe is actually the closest of all. Physical attributes, style of play... I would even say, too close. Well, the big difference are Jordan's accomplishments, mental toughness, and killer instinct. And of course, MJ is loved by the media. Wade right now has the upperhand simply because of the situation he's in. Miami just won a championship and he has a "big" factor on his side, Shaq. James as well has a good supporting cast. And like Jordan, he has the attention of the media. Year after year, Kobe will be amongst the top, but winning it all will be a different story. Truth is even if Kobe leads the Lakers to a top finish at the end of the season, even if he leads the league in scoring, the MVP won't be a guarantee for him. That's the reality... unless there will be a change of heart from the media.

Kobe has the killer instincts and mental toughness that Jordan has. How can you say he doesnt. The only difference is the accomplishments, but how many players do you know will ever accomplish what Jordan did in his tenure with the Bulls?

I think the biggest factor is that Jordan was loved by the media while Kobe is not.

(offensively) Kobe is the most talented, guy can score in many ways, but Wade is the best player in the league at reading and beating defenses. Either him or Nash, but Wade is a more a threat to score.

The PG is supposed to be the guy who executes the coaches game plan, right? Wade can cut the middle man off. That little part of his game, which goes unnoticed, is the reason why he's at where he is today. Wade has yet to see any one player or team that can really baffle him. There's been a couple of times this season where he waived off a play Pat Riley wanted to run because he read the defense and knew exactly where to beat it. One of those times was the eventual game winning basket in a tight regular season game.

Even the Pistons and Mavericks stressed the importance of making Wade pass the ball, even as he was playing PG to bring it up, cuz they knew once he got the ball that the Heat were probably gonna score on that possesion. Without him getting the ball once our offense didn't run as smooth and usually lead to poor possesions or a turnover.

Actually, Dirk/Lebron(flip flop for top spot in PER) and Kobe are ahead of Wade offensively (objectively speaking, from a PER pov).
