I wouldn't worry too much. What has Oden done to get that kind of contract extension? Even based on hypothetical development he's not worth $12m/per when you factor in his long list of injuries. Noah, OTOH, has earned this contract extension.
I don't think so. Noah looks like a young Marcus Camby. 11/11/2blk is nothing to scoff at. Neither are his 15/13/3ast Playoff numbers.
He averaged a double double with good percentages and defense in 30 mpg. That's about market value for a decent starting center. I brought up Oden because the two are from the same draft class, and play the same position. Noah's contract can possibly be used a talking point by either GO's or Cho's side during negotiations. Also, it's a bit hard to believe that the offer has been on the table for two weeks, and he hasn't yet accepted it.
At the same salary would you rather have Noah or Oden? I'd clearly rather have Oden, which as yuyuyizuaz mentions gives him some good bargaining for an extension. Does Oden deserve more than $60 mil? Obviously not, but players with potential have always been grossly overpaid. Eddy Curry is pulling in 12 million this upcoming year from a contract earned after 4 years of mediocre play on a rookie deal. Oden has been dominant for brief stretches, that potential can get you big dollars. Another way I would look at it is would you match a $70 mil RFA deal for Oden? I would in a heartbeat. Sure it'd be great to get him for less but there is no way you can let him walk just to save a few dollars. The team will not be able to attract a free agent with similar upside, so at the end of the day you have to overpay. Roy got a max deal last offseason, I'd say his injury history is more worriesome than Oden's.
Why? I'm not hating or anything but Noah has clearly proven himself more than Oden. Are exclusively focusing on potential? I don't think this gives Oden any more power due to his injury history. Potential is useless if you aren't able to get on the court.
More likely his agent uses Wes Matthews's contract as a measuring stick. Oden is easily 100 times more valuable to this team than Wes Matthews.
I would rather have a 20% chance of a top15 NBA player than a 95% chance of an above average starter who is never an all-star. Top stud talents are so hard to get it's worth the risk in my opinion.
Noah can most certainly be an allstar. The center spot is very weak in the east behind Howard. I realize this is not what you meant but I think ppl here are underestimating Noah.
Is he a center? He's the same height as LA, but 25 lbs lighter. I guess he is if he starts their right. I still can't call David Lee a center.
Noah making Lamarcus money sounds about right ... and no, I don't see this having much bearing on Oden's contract extension because I don't believe the Blazers are going to offer him one; I think he enters next offseason (the one after the lockout) as a restricted free agent (if they roll his RFA status over from the previous CBA).
Didn't watch your clip, but didn't Noah and Rose dunk on Greg that night? Greg was amazing to watch, he was killin' that game. If I'm not mistaken he got hurt the next game right?
