http://www.nba.com/video/games/griz..._hollins_20090125_sot.nba/whatsnew/index.html Listen to what he says at around the 0.42 mark about how often he's been in the play-offs as a coach. The poor guy is so flustered he can't even do simple math. Hard to blame him. He's taking over a team that has lost 17 of 19 and 9 in a row by an average of over 13 points. He didn't cause the curse, that was Chris Wallace, but by accepting this job, he is about to become it's next victim. The only good news for Hollins is the team can't possibly play any worse than they have been. BNM
I hate to see bad things happen to good people, but hopefully Lionel is going to be well compensated for his trouble.
How often does a guy get to coach the same team three different times? And how often does he get a third chance after having failed both previous times? http://www.basketball-reference.com/coaches/hollili01c.html Ed O.
How can you possibly blame the coach rather than the shitty players and owners he was dealt? Big Country Reeves? Give us all a break. He was his best player and he sucked oversized donkey nuts.
Can you answer the question of how often a coach has been so utterly bad twice with the same franchise and then be given a third chance? He might totally deserve it... I'm just wondering. Ed O.
If I was him, I would tell the team to give the ball to Mayo and get the hell out of the way, and then he would probably be considered reasonably successful.
I thought I read somewhere that Cheeks declined to join the debac ... er ... rebuilding effort in Memphis (probably smart if he ever aspires to coach anywhere again).
Yea a bunch of folks were laughing about that in one of the "darius" threads. Don't know if it will ever come to fruition though.
