All the video's are down, can anyone find a link (to the crash)? I would appreciate. Great opening. I'm a huge Canada fan, though I make fun of them. There isn't another country i'd rather have as a neighbor. RIP to the Georgian luger.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/12/nodar-kumaritashvili-cras_n_460474.html Video at that link still works. You really don't see the impact since the post he hit and a series of other posts are immediately blocking the camera, but it's pretty obvious that it was a nasty crash and the guy didn't have much of a chance. The still photos of the EMTs working on the guy after the video are much much more graphic and will probably disturb you more than the video will. Bloody pictures.
Not sure if anyone caught the women's mogul last night, but it was awesome. They had the best skiers at the end, so it really got tense the longer it went on. Two really talented skiers (a Canadian and American) wiped out because they were gunning for gold, went too fast, and lost control. The second last skier was Jenn Heil (Canadian) who had a really excellent run to vault to first place. The announcer said it was near perfect (pointed out that her form was slightly off on the landings). Then just as Heil finished celebrating the last skier (an American- I think her name was Kinsley) had an even better one. I was disappointed that she edged out Heil, but her performance was very very clutch.
It was a really good event. I want to see the Canadians win some gold at home. I admit, I'm a bit torn in some ways, but I mostly just want to see the best performance win. It's nice to see someone from another country like Switzerland win in a sport most of us don't really care about 47 months out of 48, but who is a national hero back home. I watched the speed skating final with those three South Koreans holding onto first through third in the last turn before one of them cut another off and wiped them both out, giving silver and bronze to the USA. I bet they won't speak to each other for the next four years. I hate seeing someone get knocked out because of someone else's fuck up. But all those skaters seem to accept that it's just the way the sport is.
Just wrote a letter to the Iraqi Olympic Committee....yeah baby My dad seems to know people in high places in Iraq....see if he can help me get a hold of the right people. I might be a lil crazy, but Im serious
You actually have to compete and have some sort of recognition in the event. They're not going to just let anyone compete, you could get seriously hurt or worse hurt a real competitor.
Hurt another competitor, impossible since its downhill skiing....nobody around you ...and I know I can beat a damn 51 year old Mexican down a hill I have no disillusions of seriously competing....just be within 6 or so seconds....and make it down the hill in one piece
Bob Costas will have to interview me because of the unique situation ...So according to this years Olympics standards you have to be in the FIS top 500 in rankings in the downhill to compete....Possible if I have the money Giant slalom and slalom you can get in without being ranked at all if the country wants to send you ...im only truly interested in downhill.....maybe GS but not really
