It better be quick because once July 1 comes around it might be difficult to match his 50 million contract AND give Minnesota value back. I am sure there are few teams who can.....just not many.
The rebuild continues… Send ANT and WILLIAMS to Brooklyn and Take Simmons and 2027 #1 (from PHX / no restrictions) and Brooklyn’s own #1 pick in 2028 with no restrictions. We move ANT for value and Williams who probably would get hurt, and obtain more draft assets in 2027 and 2028. We can try flipping Simmons for additional draft assets and never see him wear a Blazer uniform.
Interesting trade idea, especially the main players. Brogdon to Minny and KAT to Detroit. But it's just way too much value going to Portland to be realistic. Redo it with #5 and Duren going to Minnesota, Fournie salary and Minnesota pick #27 to us. Problem for Minny is their still in the 2nd apron. I'd think a different team for Brogdon might be better. Ultimately as Simmons and Russilo said in the podcast it's unlikely Towns gets traded this offseason. They just had the best playoff run by Minnesota in 20 years which was tied for their furthest postseason run in the entire franchise history back to 1989. I'd expect they want to try another year with this group. However if the team doesn't look like a contender at the trade deadline I could see they exploring these types of offers.
Not horrible for us. But it doesn't make much sense to me for Brooklyn. They have a good young SG in Cam Thomas. They would be stupid to trade those two picks IMO when they are rebuilding
We get fleeced though. Minnesota gets Grant, Brogdon, Duren and 5 for KAT and we get #27 and Fournier? That’s awful. Keep in mind that Minny couldn't give him away last summer, and though he had a good year, his contract is absurd. Minny does this trade because they get two vets who can immediately plug into their rotation and they shed KATs insane salary. Detroit does it because they are tired of losing and KAT can be paired with Cade. They could cut the Blazers out, but I think Grant/Brogdon are more helpful to Minnesota than the 5th pick in a weak draft and Duren.
This is the only part I would disagree with you on if I am Minnesota. How good would they be for the next 10 years with a Castle/ Edwards backcourt if they could get him at 5? Conley will be 37 at the beginning of the next season
Gobert is almost 32. I don't think they have time to develop a rookie if they hope to include him in their window.
Anthony Edwards is 22... so they can develop a rookie just fine. Now yes they are a contender now so they wouldn't want to trade away veteran talent primarily for a pick. But if it was a deal that gave them a veteran which fit a better position than Towns, luxury tax relief, and a pick then a rookie would be great for their future.
Orlando seems like a great trade partner. They need shooting we need good young players and draft picks. I saw article that suggested Anthony Black plus top 5 protected 1st for Simons.
I know that highlight videos can make anyone look good, but I have yet to see one of Black that really excites me.
He's 6'7 PG that shot 39% 3pt and is 20 years old. Scoot 3pt is 32% and Sharpe 35%... Might argue Black would be the most valuable player on the Blazers roster.
Ugh... Not of fan of either of those guys as long-term pieces, so that trade feels like we would just be shifting the deck chairs.
Technically he stands 6-5 and 3/4 inches without shoes. Wingspan: 6-7 and 1/2. (compared to Scoot with a 6'9" wing) But aside from his stats (37 total 3s made last year) his video to me is very average. If he is considered a good shooter, than why do they need Ant?
He's actually not considered a very good shooter; that number was a surprise. His best attributes are supposed to be defense and distribution. To me, he feels like an ideal backup to Scoot/Sharpe, providing backcourt versatility, even moreso if his stroke has developed to be legit. What he isn't is someone who can take over offensively, making plays for himself, scoring from anywhere and generating offensive gravity, which is what Orlando needs and Simons can provide.
