<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rock4life:</div><div class="quote_post">This trade has Van Gundy's paws all over it. Conversation prolly went like this, Carol Dawson "We're gonna take Rudy Gay and get younger!". Van Gundy, "Well, um, I think somebody like Battie can help us in more areas". The truth is, Van Gundy doesn't have the patience to develop young players. As much as we NEED to get younger and more athletic, Van Gundy's system won't allow a young player to reach his max potential. With that said, I'm not totally mad at the trade. This trade is a SAFE trade. We don't lose anything and we get a very solid player. He can shoot, defend, and he's a very smart player. It'll put Tmac back down to SG where he'll have more of an advantage. We still gotta get more athletic, this trade didn't solve that problem. Still alot of work to do for the Rockets.

From my knowledge Swift wasn't involved in the trade</div>

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports...kn/4010820.html

It includes swift. What the hell man... Does JVG and the rockets have something against young atheletic players who have potentials?? All we get is older people with defense...

OMFG who the hell said this trade was good is outta your mind. Shane Battier a guy that struggles to even average 10 points cannot be the player that is our third option. He isn't even a shut down defender good shooting guards have the ability to tear him up. Hes anotehr david wesley who goes out there and "battles" for you battles for a team thats goign to never win the championship. What gay would have brought was 15 points/game 6 rebounds and our third option who could have developed like Tayshaun on defence.

    It's official.

We gave Swift and Gay just for Shane.

WTF, that is it. That is the trade [IMG] I want Lowry at least.

Houston needs to score points, sure Shane plays D but he doesn't score as much as Gay can. I don't like the move especially not that they have up Swift as well.

Wow...I never thought Battier was worth that much! Van Gundy must have been narcotized or something to pull this trade. This makes Isiah Thomas look smart!

How many points has Gay scored in the NBA?

How good is Battier? The guy is simply a winner:

    <div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><br/>OffDefNet<br/>2006+3.4-7.0+10.4<br/>2005+5.5-6.1+11.6<br/>2004+2.1-1.4+3.5<br/>2003*+1.3-1.5+2.8<br/><br/>* - per 48 minutes<br/></div>

Each of the past 4 years, the Grizzlies were better on offense with him on the court AND better on defensive with him on the court. The impact has been particularly strong the last couple years. Battier isn't your typical, average role-player. He may not collect gawdy numbers, but he does the things necessary to help a team win.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting durvasa:</div><div class="quote_post">I have to say, this makes the trade a bit sweeter for me. It would have been even better if we could have gotten rid of Juwan Howard instead, but our roster is instantly improved with Chuck Hayes moving up in the rotation.

Along with Battier, if Chuck Hayes plays big minutes next year we will definitely be a better ballclub. Both those guys are simply winners.

Maybe I'm just a hopeless optimist, but I'm starting to like this deal. Though, at the same time, giving up Swift AND Rudy Gay for Battier seems somewhat lopsided at first glance.

    Anyone knows Battier's contract situation?</div>

As hardworking as Hayes is, he's foul prone. So he usually won't be in the game for long.

I wasn't a big supporter of Shane Battier at Duke...I became a real duke fan when I got a scholarship to the school and when Jay williams was there.

WHat does hating or liking shane battier have to do with my liking of DUKE. Absolutely nothing...Duke has some players I dont like at all.

All I know is that we are going into next season with Howard at the 4! That in itself is discouraging.

Why is that whenever Rockets are about to do something good they don't do it? I had a feeling they were going to do something stupid in this draft. When they finally and luckily picked the best talent in the whole draft, why trade him for Batier and a 24th pick when he is clearly the type of a person that fits the rockets needs? He is athletic tall and versatile. that is exactly what the rockets need! We finally get him, and do some stupid trade! I hate rockets now! Man we should have never done this. Why trade when he's so good? Well all im hoping right now is rockets to be better next season. hopefully rudy gay will suck real bad next season and rockets will get past the second round!

WOW. Should have kept Rudy Gay but its not all that bad Shane Battier is a solid player good defender, can shoot the ball well he can help our team alot.

One question though, Was Allen Ray in the draft? If yes why the F did we not get him?

If Gay turns out to be a real good player that will be probably be an allstar in the future, then im going to be real mad! I know he will average more than 10 ppg. And Shane Battier is old! Why in the hell are we getting all these old players? We should've kept Gay. He had like 15 more years to play while Battier probably has 7! I know its more experience but getting older? Gay fits our needs perfectly and trading him for battier including swift?? very stupid! why add swift? i was already mad enough without him, and adding him? make me the gm! Gay is going to be one of the best rookies out there next year! Watch! We will regret trading him for an old crappy Battier!

WOW. I thought this draft would make us more athletic and faster in the back court.

MAN OH MAN WAS I WRONG. We lost almost all of our athleticism in Stro and Gay.

    I like Shane though.

BUT HE IS NOT WORTH ALL THAT! Maybe Stro and this years 2nd and the next 3 2nd round picks after that.

How the hell did you get a scholarship to Duke? How'd you even get accepted? Sorry kid, I'm not buying it. I've got friends at Duke, are you a rising sophmore/junior, or are you an incoming freshman?

Anyone who in any way resembled a Duke fan should love Shane Battier. He was everything to that program for four straight years, a dominant player and an amazing personality.

Anyway, Rockets fans are funny. They want Stromile Swift and Rudy Gay but not Shane Battier. I just don't understand that whatsoever. You've got two guys with all the talent in the world but a horrible mental approach and a horrible work ethic compared to one of the best defenders in the NBA (if not <u>the</u> best), one of the hardest workers, one of the fiercest competitors, and the man who's picture is in the dictionary under the term 'intangibles.'

Anyway, I think Jerry West should be fired.

From the blog at the Houston Chronicle, it says that we might not be getting Memphis' pick after all. It is a 2 for 1 trade. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/

I hope this is not true. This could go down as one-sided as the Eddie Griffin trade.

From what I know, the trade is not official yet. I hope to god this trade falls through. If you consider all the recent players that have come out of UCONN (Rip, Okafor, Gordon, Villaneuva), I am very optimistic abut Gay's future. The only UCONN players that I can think of that fail are Khalid El-Amin and Jake Voskul, both of whom were late first round picks and were not expected to play very well. Being from UCONN, Gay should be succesful in the NBA.
