Why can't people be upset when one of their favorite stories is tampered with?
I was a huge Clive Cussler fan. I read a ton of his books. His main character, Dirk Pitt, was one of my favorite fictional characters. They made one of the books into a movie, "Sahara" with Matthew McConaughey, but they completely butchered the character. Changed huge parts about the story. One major aspect was that Dirk Pitt is a retired Air Force pilot. That doesn't make him any less badass, but Hollywood decided that wasn't cool enough so they made him a retired Navy SEAL. I wanted to walk out in the first 30 seconds of the movie because it pissed me off.
So why can't people be annoyed or upset when one of their favorite characters is made into a woman? Or or another race? Nobody is saying there shouldn't be black super heroes..... okay.... some people are probably saying there shouldn't be any black super heroes..... but why can't people be pissed when Hollywood completely changes one of their favorite characters? If Wonder Woman is a great super hero because it shows little girls that women can be powerful, do you think there would be outrage if the next Wonder Woman was a dude?
