Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

Why does Nate have so much confidence in Felton and Crawford??? They give you one good game out of five, and then play turnover basketball the rest of the time. It's like watching Jack and Sergio all over again.

I'd rather have Steve Blake right now.

The Crawford thing makes perfect sense because of the Seattle and Brandon thing. As for Felton I'm guessing it's got something to do with Bickerstaff ... and in a funny way, that's a Seattle thing too.

From some random person on twitter:
David Lee tonight is what Luke Babbit must look like in the D League

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

Nic was on a mission tonight to get at the team for not giving him a deal and Nate suppressed that aggression by placing him on the bench for fucking 26 minutes. This is painful to watch.

Portland is what Portland must look like in the D League.

I don't know the reason, but it is mind numbing to witness.

God, on the 3rd game of a BtBtB and Nate decides to ride Wallace despite Batum playing MUCH better and being MUCH fresher.

Just, makes no goddamn sense.

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

Not playing Batum = loss. I 100% agree with Nic. That was one of the main reasons. We let Golden State back in the game and gained momentum. Nate lost this game hands down.

Utah lost to Toronto at home

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

Another foul by Curry on Crawford, and no call.

Just another night at GS, though. They don't miss when they play the Blazers. It's actually quite funny, and I'm amazed Portland is only down 6 going into the 4th.

If only our supposed best player Aldridge were a 4th quarter player. No, too much to hope for.

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

I'm back from the game. Same thing all of you are saying. We lost because Nate wouldn't play Batum in the 4th until it was too late. Made no sense. Batum was a beast when he was in the game. Whatever. I shouldn't go to any more games, at least not road games. I should make a trip to Portland if I want to have fun at a game. What a waste of money.

Once you 1%ers are overthrown, the 3rd row will have an unobstructed view on how to lead the nation.

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

Haven't read all the comments but I need to vent. Raymond Felton. Walked the ball up on 100% of his possessions. Played unfocused and lackadaisical and unintelligent defense which was responsible for giving Curry some open shots that got his game going. Then would try to make up for it by taking some crazy shots.

Not sure why we couldn't come up with a defensive scheme to stop Lee from having so many open jump shots. Seemed at first Thomas wasn't taking him serious, after that, not sure what it was.

25 seconds left, we're behind by 6 and two guys (Mathews and Crawford) pass up open three!

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

Home from the game now and here are my general thoughts:

- The Warriors routinely hit the hands of our three point shooters without getting called for a foul. I know of at least 3 or 4 instances where the whistle should've been blown but wasn't.
- Rhino is hilarious to watch initially because all he does is put his head down and charges with the ball right to the basket. But by the tenth time you see it (without good results), it's not as comical anymore. You can't question his hustle though.
- Crawford's got a beautiful stroke - after that, y'all can insert your favorite Crawford crack here. I think he'll be fine as season progresses.
- I hardly ever talk smack about our players but, good gawd, Raymond . . . what the hell? After seeing tonight's performance, he's going to have to do A LOT going forward to make me have ANY confidence in him again.
- GSW doesn't seem to miss any 3's when we're in town.
- We should've kept B. Rush.
- Curry got his but how long did it take us to figure out to not let D. Lee take wide open elbow jumpers when he was knocking them down all night?
- Did Batum go back to France or something? Where was he most of the 2nd half?

Lastly, I'm not at all surprised with lost AT ORACLE and at the end of a back to back to back but geezus we could've won this one. Frustrating.

Great meeting Eric at last! Very nice and laid back guy in person. Pic from behind his now legendary $1500 seats:

No kidding. I think a lot of people in here are forgetting that as a fan we shouldn't care if we win or lose, or that our coach and guard play lost us this game. Remember, people....if you don't have anything nice to say, don't post.

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

I'm done defending Felton. Ever since we went away from the whole run and gun mantra that we started the year with he has looked like garbage.

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

Felton moves too fast to think straight. He needs to slow down to get the control that Andre Miller had.

Some of Felton's missed shots each game are at the end of the 24 seconds. The play has failed, the follow-up passes orbiting the outside have just gone on and on without a shot taken, the ball comes to him for about the 3rd time in the 24 seconds, there are 4 seconds left, so he heaves it and misses.

You might say that we got him specifically for the end of the clock, to fix that recurring event in McMillan's system. On other teams, he had supposedly been a good shooter in that situation. As I've often said, McMillan turns good shooters into bad shooters.

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

I am surprised at Mark Jackson as a coach. He has new ideas. He'll be an NBA coach for many years. The delay of game calls at the start of the game to slow us down--not a bad idea. Fouling Dwight Howard--nice try. There were a couple of other things I noticed last night. He's trying out his ideas. He's creative, unlike McMillan.

This HONESTLY isn't a poke at Nate, but wouldn't that fall on the coach? I mean if Felton was doing well in the more uptempo style, wouldn't it seem good to continue with said style?

Dude, I went to Will Call to pick up my locker room pass and all that was there for me was 1/4th of a chimichanga and some spent Taco Bell mild sauce packets. So, yeah, I did go out to the TV truck . . . but only to piss on the door handle! Actually, my son did.

Ummm, Hack-a-Howard might have been inspired by Hack-a-Shaq? And did you see his coaching brilliance on Monday when he did nothing (and I mean absolutely nothing) to stop that 17 point double digit choke job against the Grizz? And the topper: he said last night in the post game interview that he has TWO of the most elite defenders in Biedrins and Kwame Brown. Yes, that Kwame Brown.

Mark Jackson isn't as brilliant as you want to make him out to be. The other rookie (football) coach from the other side of The Bay is brilliant - Jackson not so much.

Re: 1/25/2012 Year of Dragon (aka year we finally win in Oakland) PDX vs. GSW Game Th

well, the team doesn't want Batum to keep producing good stats and garner larger offers this coming off season. It's a financial decision.
Sadly, and cynically, I had the same thought.

Well he was good enough to "out coach" Nate.

Mediocre Man would say:

A) That doesn't take much.
B) Nate out coached himself.
C) I could out coach Nate.
D) Ass clown.

Only one answer is correct.

Actually, all answers are correct except B. Not even Nate can out coach himself

Gee, I don't know. Either you can speculate, or you can actually read quotes from players about that topic.

But perhaps what makes the Blazers unique is the playing style coach Nate McMillan wants to implement. He wants full-court pressure on defense from his guards. He wants to push the pace on offense.

It worked early. Remember how fast Raymond Felton looked early on, zipping through and past everyone? Remember Wallace as a virtual blur on both ends of the court?

Well, it's all been reduced to fits and starts nowadays, and as a result, you've got this edition of the Blazers: Good for spurts, but stuck in quicksand for long spells.

"Nate wants us to play fast, and we hear him," center Marcus Camby said. "We want to play fast, but for us to play fast, we have to get stops defensively."

And to get stops defensively means exerting effort.

If you're tired, you can't get stops. If you can't get stops, you can't run.

As somebody already pointed out in this thread, the entire league's offensive play has regressed over last season. It's tough to consistently get a running game going when the ball is falling through the net.

I agree with all of that, but at the beginning of the year, Felton and others were pushing the ball after a made basket.

It has also been pretty evident that the team doesn't not push the ball after a stop, unless someone is leaking out. That is not a good way to create a running game
