Then your analogy comparing Muslims to Christians is either fallacious or you are failing to meet your Biblical duties.

You will need to expand because I have no idea what you have taken up.

I'm referring to Leviticus:
And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

Which is in the Bible, and it tells you to be very violent under specific reasons. The Quran also tells you to be violent, but under different reasons. I will say that the Quran seems to be more violent about spreading the word though.

Ah Leviticus!

One of the five books of Moses in the Jewish Torah, included in the cannon by the First Ecumenical Council. Thereby we have the “Bible” including the Old and the New Testament.

I can not say, not having been a member of that first Council why the books selected were made part of the cannon, I can only speculate. It appears to me that the Torah was included to give the
background on the God of the Hebrews and the religion of the Jews. And you have to include the Ten Commandments given to us by God through Moses.

While the Old Testament gives the picture of the Jewish Religion at the time of Jesus, it in many ways stands in contrast to the teachings of Jesus. Indeed much of this is what Jesus intended to improve by teach men to be more supportive and forgiving.

Leviticus says of men lying together is an abomination, and so it is to many men if there are forced to hear of it. However, Jesus teaches that men should be more tolerant and even forgiving,
with teachings like, “let those without sin, cast the first stone”. “Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord” or “The Lord shall judge his people”. In other words, men would do well to mind their personal business, and leave other men , Caesar, and God to their’s.

So the Old Testament is not intended to teach the philosophy of Christianity other than perhaps the Ten Commandments, but to stand in contrast to the New Testament which contain the teachings of Jesus.

I am not totally sure but I do not think the Jews even follow all the Torah text. Has anyone heard of a Stoning? The followers of Islam do but not the Jews, I think.

I think the contrast between before Christ and after is such a contrast. That's why I love Jesus so much. He freed me of any burden of doubt. To be free from laws and look into the future with hope.

Too bad more don't accept the benefit.

I hear people claim that the old testament doesnt count because the jews..., Jesus..., whatever ..., but that's hogwash. If you believe in the Bible and in Christianity, the Old Testament is the word of god. A ruthless, evil god that caused atrocities and commanded bizarre laws. The new testament calls for teachings of the old:

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

"All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness..." (2 Timothy 3:16 NAB)

“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV)

"It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

"Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God." (2 Peter 20-21 NAB)

"Whoever curses father or mother shall die" (Mark 7:10 NAB)

All ya'll Christians who subscribe to the New and not the Old T, are condemned to hell for not following the letter of the law all the words of God including the Old T.

Well I suggest you give your examples some thought greater that one would expect from a microbe.

Here is a clue on the quote for Mark 7:10 Perhaps he used the text from Moses as an example of rediculous just as he finds the other things touted by the Pharisees that were currently pestering him.

But I will leave you to study, maybe Mags will give you a hand.

On the other hand, the quote from Mark was a good example. How else could the reader understand Mark (New Testament) without Moses (Old Testament) being included for reference.

One has to understand that Jesus and his disciples were in a struggle for control with the powers that be, the Pharisees and the leaders of the Jewish religion. One group wanting to teach
the new and the other wanting to maintain the status quo. Both ain't going to happen.

And yet for 2000 years hence we are supposed to maintain the status quo? Seems like Jesus had it right - out with the old, in with the new.

Jesus would laugh at people who think the bible is the absolute truth because it is 2000 years old, or the constitution is the absolute truth because it is 200 years old, or Miley Cyrus is the absolute truth because she's 20 years old.

Ah well at least you work on thinking. So many have not even read the material to begin the process.

The words are more than reference, they state that all laws must be headed, and that would include the old referenced ones. So kill those gays, kills those who sleep around, kill those kids who speak back to mommy, and on and on. The Bible is wrought with contradictions. Why? in my opinion it's because these aren't the words of god, they are the words of people in power who are trying to subjugate the masses and make continued power easier to maintain. If they were the words of god, there would be no debate because there would be perfection.

There is no contradiction of law. There are contradictions with atheists trying to use the laws to downplay the Christian faith.

Christianity is much more than obeying laws.

If you don't think there are contadictions, google "contadictions in the bible". If you don't think there are contadictions between the new and Old Testament, google "contradictions between the old and new testament". You will find tons of examples.

Christianity might be more than following the laws, but that is a major part of it, meaning if you don't follow you go to hell.

You don't have to follow the law or go to hell if you're a Christian. What are you Jewish?

Haha, I'm budathistian but I like bagels and lox.

Mags, how do you view the bible. Is it the word of god? Is it our best record of Jesus Christ? Are they important stories to learn how to walk with Christ? Do you take it literal, and if not, how do you choose. I'm not trying to catch you, I am just interested in your answer, as you have different answers to most of the outspoken Christians on this board.

I take God literally. I fell in love with Jesus's love letter to humanity. In the beginning, I was all about the bible being the literal word of God. Now I've evolved to believe it's inspired by God.

The only thing I care about is Jesus Christ's grace and payment for Sin. Now I live a life without doubt.

Regarding the highlighted portion, I like that way of thinking the most because it demonstrates not only the beauty of god, but also the beauty of people. As you know, it's not my way of thinking, but I do see something much more poetic about that interpretation.

And I'm sure you know I respect your views, even though we may argue about this.

Cheers bro

It's not breaking the second law of thermodynamics because the solar system is not a closed system. There is energy coming in from somewhere else. There isn't one tornado needed to make a complete Lamborghini. We have billions of "tornados" happening at the same time. And they don't have to make a full Lamborghini. I love how he still gets his social media marketing in there too. Oh and 'Uni' means one, and 'verse' comes from 'versus' meaning turned. Which means coming together to be one.
