until signing day nothing is binding so even a "commit" is sort of like a bird in the bush rather then in hand. Also Chip requires that guys visit Eugene and meet everyone face to face before they can publicly declare for Oregon, which is an additional hoop to jump through that most programs don't have. Once committed to Oregon, recruits aren't allowed to continue to take visits to other programs to check them out or their offer is pulled. Their approach doesn't lend itself to building a big class early but probably allows them to get more solid commitments.Just early perception I guess? A lot of PAC schools are landing better classes thus far, and I think that's odd given the Ducks success the past two years, and especially this year. I guess I just figured more kids would have been flocking to Oregon and their fast paced offense. They very well still might do that, I just thought it would happen sooner rather than later.
That said, I'm pretty sure that they're ahead of last year's recruiting pace which turned out to be a pretty great class if you take stock in the Rivals/Scout ratings... I'd expect this year to end up at least as good.
