according to ESPN's Greg Biggins, Florida State verbal LB stud Ukeme Eligwe has set up an official visit with Oregon & Cal... maybe Ed O can fill in the details?
Florida State may not be the only visit for four-star linebacker prospect Ukeme Eligwe (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stone Mountain). He’s scheduled to visit the Seminoles this weekend but this ESPNU 150 member may take two trips out west before signing day.
“He was mentioning something about visiting Cal yesterday,” Stone Mountain coach Dante Ferguson said. “He may also visit Oregon. I know he will visit FSU this weekend and he’s just trying to set up those others. I know he would like to check out some other schools and take some trips.”
That has only intensified recent rumors that UW has been making a play at Tosh Lupoi, the defensive line coach at Cal who is also known as one of the best recruiters in the Pac-12, if not all of college football --- he was named the Rivals.com Recruiter of the Year in 2010, for instance, and he's been cited as a key factor in Cal's recent big haul of recruits for the Class of 2012.
UW-Lupoi has mostly been message-board fodder so far, though most coaching stuff usually is as people rarely go on the record with these kinds of things. But the rumor has picked up steam in recent days, even going as far as that there may have been meetings between UW and Lupoi at the recent coaches convention in San Antonio.
It's been thought highly unlikely Lupoi would leave Cal due to his deep ties to the school and the area at large --- detailed well in this good ESPN.com story from last spring.
But the rumors have persisted, some wondering if Lupoi would be swayed by a big offer, possibly more responsibility in rebuilding UW's defense, and a connection to new defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox ---- Lupoi played at Cal when Wilcox was a coach there from 2003-05. Lupoi is reported to be making $164,000 at Cal, a figure the Huskies could easily surpass.
ESPN.com's Greg Biggins, however, seemed to quash the rumors that Lupoi might leave earlier today while also giving validity to the rumors that UW has been talking to Lupoi. Biggins Tweeted Tweeted in a response to a question about UW and Lupoi that "they tried, but he's happy at Cal.'' He also wrote that "They're still trying, haven't thrown the kitchen sink in yet, I guess.''
If Lupoi (or any other DL coach) were to come, it wouldn't be to replace Johnny Nansen, who will remain on staff, but could instead have duties solely as special teams coach/recruiting coordinator.
I'm not worried about the Ducks! I agree we'll be fine, that said I'd love to have had Ellis McCarthy, I think he'll be a special defensive player, Shaq seems like a ego maniac and Arik will have a hard time being great at football if he wants to play hoops too, which seems to be why he chose Cal, to play both.
I still think it's odd Cal got them all, but so be it and I'll drop it now!
Who is the second best school in Cali? Stanford is gonna blow when Luck leaves
Why would Lupoi go to UW to be a D-Line coach? He's a Cal graduate and I've heard rumors he's primed for a D-coordinator job real soon.
I don't understand why these kids verbal if they're still interested in visiting schools. I'm of the train of thought, you visit all the schools you're interested in, verbal, then if you have a change of heart by signing day you back out.
Most kids do it that way.
MickZagger:
Shaq has been jerking around 5 schools and than dismissed USC over twitter. That and the guy who runs Rivals has implied several times the way Shaq has handled the recruiting process has been that of an ego maniac, knowing all along he was going to Cal. I've not mentioned ego in response to Arik or Ellis, please get your facts correct before attacking! Thx!
guess which one of Oregon's 2012 recruits made the Parade All American team?

#1: Money.
#2: More responsibility. Maybe he'd be "Assistant Defensive Coordinator" or something.
I doubt he goes to UW, but the Huskies sure are trying.
I was wrong in my doubts.
I wonder how this impacts Cal right now/this season...

Very odd! Why would you bust your hump to get one of the best recruiting classes ever at Cal, only to bolt for UW? Wonder what Shaq, Ellis and Arik think about that?
I bet we get atleast 1 of Armstead, Shaq or McCarthy.
One would think, right?I bet we get atleast 1 of Armstead, Shaq or McCarthy.
What do you want to bet? I'd love one of them, but I don't see it happening.
What's the bet?
