I think it depends. I mean my buddy, Randy Bodek, isn't associated at all with the team, but a good source for players in the league. Another friend of mine, (deal coming soon guy), works for the league office in a very unimportant, yet knowledgable area. He will say stuff like "hey, I heard so and so and such and such are talking deal. Looks like it's almost done" or whatever.

People don't really have sources. Its a ploy to make them feel important, so they make shit up, or read an idea somewhere and throw it to the wall and hope it sticks. Its been a big thing to do on message boards for years. Sure, there's those rare occasions where someone actually does know something. But, an intern, or some other shlub isn't going to have any more information than the next guy.

The only people who really know whats going on are agents and front office guys. I doubt many front office execs spill the beans in the break room about trades and such.

It does make interesting dialogue on here though.
 
Drummond is one of those types that could boom or bust. He's got Dwight Howard like athletisism, but Meyers Leonard seems to be a safer bet. There is so much to like about Leonard, great size, very athletic, good jump shot. He's like a 7-1 LaMarcus Aldridge. I"m not sure how well he'd play with LA though, a defensive banger like Drummond is more what we need.

As far as the numbers, he’s a mixed bag. He looks like he can handle the offense, but I doubt he’s a pure PG. The number that worries me most is the 1.7 S40. The others on the list were well over 2.0. Most guards who make a successful jump from small colleges have a dominant steal rate. It’s a statistic, along with others, that shows NBA ability. That Lillard comes up short here is a big cause for concern.

I have my doubts that Damian Lillard can become more than a 3rd or 4th guard in the NBA. At best I see him as an instant offense player off a bench who can fill it up and run the offense semi-effectively for short stretches. At worst he’s just a gunner who doesn’t have the passing or defensive chops to get consistent court time. I wouldn’t use a lottery pick on him and I certainly wouldn’t draft him if a player with the upside of Waiters or Wroten were still on the board.

On Fournier:

Evan Fournier, France, .522, .277, 21.6, 2.3, 7.4, 1.0: I’ll start by saying I’m not as knowledgeable on foreign players as a draft “guru” should be. I will say that Fournier has impressive enough stats for a player so young that I would take my chances with him before any college SG in this group.

It’s very impressive that he posted a 20+ P40 as a 19 year-old playing in at the top level in Europe. Usually the younger players are in more of a support role. He scored efficiently as well and posted strong numbers in other areas of his game. The only weakness is he has yet to hit 3-pointers consistently. At his young age I wouldn’t call this a huge concern, but just something to keep in mind.

Fournier’s numbers and potential say he’s the most promising SG available in the 2012 draft after Brad Beal. While this says more about the SG field than Fournier, I feel he’s a safe pick starting around the back of the lottery.

The soph numbers posted at Howard JC are per game numbers which were the only ones I could find. I would figure the per 40 minute numbers to be about 20% higher. As a senior Crowder improved his inside scoring and his blocks and steals fairly dramatically. I’m more concerned that it took until his senior season to emerge as a star than I am with any positional effect on his numbers. The best prospects are usually top prospect immediately. I might be able to chalk this up to the system at Marquette that seems to let the seniors be the star.

In Crowder we have a player who is too short, too heavy and was slow to emerge as a prospect. We also have his stellar statistics which put him in with some pretty fast company. I can tell you that players with Crowder’s dimensions rarely make the league, but no player with Crowder’s dimensions has ever put up numbers this good before. So I can’t tell you that he’s bound to fail either.

Personally I like Jae Crowder as a prospect. He’s tough, he has a great nose for the ball defensively and he scored efficiently from inside and out at the major college level. I get that the size issues are a problem. If he were a sinewy 6’8” with a 6’11” wingspan and these same numbers, me and everyone else would have him as a solid #2 pick behind Anthony Davis. I know he’s a risk, but I still feel he shouldn’t stay on the board much past the lottery picks. I’d much rather take a chance on a productive player than one who isn’t.

Drummond v. Leonard. I'm starting to like Leonard better. He will likely be there at 11 and I'm not sure his upside is much lower than Drummond, but with a lot higher floor. BPA at 6 and Leonard at 11 would not upset me.
 
I disagree on the higher floor for Leonard. I think Drummond should come in as a decent man defender immediately,with a Kwame-ish floor. I don't see Leonard as a solid defender at a minimum. I think he can flame out of the league a lot more easily.
 
I see Leonard as a possible Tyson Chandler-type. A very athletic defender that can finish some ally-oops on the break.
 
Well if they have any belief that Elliott Williams will turn out to be any good, and it would not surprise me if he did, then by taking Lillard at 6 and Leonard at 11, you have a potentially solid young starting 5. Assuming we re-sign Batum.
 
I see Leonard fairing as well as the majority of other white American born centers drafted in the lottery

I wonder of Wheels will be as useless as he has been in the last two drafts.

You might be right, but you have to factor in that Drummond goes at 6, and Leonard at 11. I think the Tyson Chandler comparisons are right for Leonard, and that works for me. Drummond's stats have gone down the last three years (2 HS, 1 College) as he faced tougher competition. He has shown very limited motor, and doesn't look like he has done anything to improve over those years. Leonard has improved and appears interested in continuing. Unless the scouts see something different in Drummond, I would be just as happy with a pass on him. I'm actually warming to Zeller a bit at 11 as well, but would still prefer Leonard.

Source says St. John's small forward Moe Harkless will work out in Sacramento (No. 5) on Monday after working out for Golden State (No. 7) today. The session wasn't initially scheduled, but the Kings are showing serious interest. Have to wonder if it's a sign that they're thinking about moving back to get a player like him. The Kings played former rookie of the year Tyreke Evans at the small forward spot last season, but he was not happy with the move and certainly would rather play in the backcourt as he heads into a contract year.

Harkless at 11 makes more sense than Harkless at 5. :)

I thought the same thing the other day when I saw this on twitter.

Three teams are showing "heavy interest" and two of them just happen to be Sacramento and Portland.
 
Weiland now with a look at the PF crop:

On 12/31/2011, Andrew Nicholson was in the middle of an uneventful senior season, well on his way to the D-league. On that night he must have cut a deal with the Mayan god Kisin and became the best basketball player in the nation not named Anthony Davis for the final 3 months. I look forward to 12/21/12 when we all find out whether Kisin will want Nicholson’s soul or just a couple of courtside seats in return.

Most impressive is that the improvement came during the conference season when the vast majority of players see their stats decline. Less impressive is that it took this long for him to get there. There haven’t been too many seniors who put up such numbers. Most players who are this good depart for the NBA well before their senior seasons.

Not counting Anthony Davis, who might be more of a center anyways, Andrew Nicholson is the top PF prospect in the 2012 draft. The reason I like him better than Robinson or Sullinger is that at his best, Nicholson was a more dominant player both offensively and defensively. He definitely comes with some risk and concerns, but drafting on upside, I have to put Nicholson at the top.

He's definitely not a fan of T-Rob.

I also have to wonder if his blocks were lower than his ability would suggest because he was playing on a team with a shot blocker in Withey. I can’t say for a fact that he would have gotten more blocks had he played more center, like most college PFs do. Considering Robinson has that 7’3” wingspan, it certainly seems likely. That and the idea that his real inside scoring ability is somewhat better than his .505 mark this past season because of the .601 he posted in 482 minutes as a soph give him a little more intrigue.

Robinson’s numbers say he’s an NBA journeyman. That he comes up short on inside scoring and defense, suggests he’ll become a useful, but limited rebounding specialist off an NBA bench in the mold of Reggie Evans. But there are some extenuating circumstances that suggest he could be something more than that, though still short of an all-star.

Comparing Robinson to Reggie Evans is laughable.. Immediate credibility drop for Weiland.
 
In the past he's been all over the map with how bigs project from college to the NBA.

He's much better projecting guards and wings.
 
Saw this on a Pacers thread, they posted it Friday, so not sure if someone else here posted it already:

Mike Wells was just on 1070 the fan on the Grady and Big Joe show. He said he has it directly, I'm guessing from Bird, that the Pacers will either trade up and have a top 10 pick next week or make a big trade and trade out of the draft completely.
