Neil said he didn't want short term fits. he said he wants players who will be here long term. with that in mind, here are the options (both C and PF who can play C) available to us in no particular order. Scored by my unscientific way to determine our best option (s)

RFA
Jeff Pendergraph
Byron Mullens
Timofey Mozgov
Hammed Haddadi
Nicola Pekovic
Robin Lopez
Tiago Splitter
Kyle O'Quinn
Chris Andreson

UFA
Zaza Pachulia
Andray Blatche
Mareese Speights
Andrew Bynum
Cole Aldridch
Al Jefferson
Dwight Howard

Under Contract
Andris Biedrins
Brook Lopez
Marc Gasol
Roy Hibbert
David Lee
Larry Sanders
Joakim Noah
Javale McGee
Spencer Hawes
DeAndre Jordan
Chris Bosh
Greg Stiemsma
Kedrick Perkins
Omer Asik
Al Horford
Nicola Vucevic
Festus Ezeli
Ian Mahinmi
Tyler Zeller
Demarcus Cousins
Enos Kanter
Greg Monroe
Andre Drummond
John Henson

Minus guys not going anywhere from the under contract I have the players below as acquirable and a percieved upgrade.
Biedrins
Lee
Hawes
Jordan
Stiesmsma
Perkins
Asik (only if Howard goes there)
Mahinmi

UFA that might actually come here and a percieved upgrade
Pachulia
Blatch
Speights
Bynum
Jefferson

RFA that might come here and a perceived upgrade
Mozgov
Pekovic
Lopez
Splitter

So that leaves us
Biedrins
Lee
Hawes
Jordan
Stiesmsma
Perkins
Asik (only if Howard goes there)
Mahinmi
Pachulia
Blatch
Speights
Bynum
Jefferson
Mozgov
Pekovic
Lopez
Splitter

Who do you want, and how much are you willing to pay or give up to get one of them.

Is Marc gasol really unrestricted? I haven't checked; but I can't imagine this is true

Oh fuck never mind. I see you put them "under contract". I was about to say!

Best case scenario is somehow managing to nab Asik if Howard goes to Houston.

Fuck, we actually drafted Omer...

If we're trading Aldridge, would we even want Asik? We would need to go full rebuild in that scenario.

What would be nice is if we didn't have to give up Aldridge.

Wes and ? could be nice pieces for Asik, they get D and shooting with Wes. Not sure what or who else we could offer, they will want some vets to fill in that roster. We could take Trob back with Wes so they clear a bit more capspace, maybe a future pick and/or our Greek? I am assuming we keep LMA with this scenario. It could also be a 3-way where we send Wes somewhere else and that team provides a few players/vets HOU wants.

Not sure he's the "answer", but he's a really really good fit....assuming you keep LMA.

Pek!

I'm also in favor of rolling the dice on Bynum.

The best option would be one of the Detroit bigs.

does someone have a link to that shot chart graphic that sanders dominated and lee was horrible on? where is asik on that?

his blocks dont scream rim protector to me

Asik (only if Howard goes there)
Pachulia
Bynum
If we're limited to your short list, these are the only guys I could muster any interest for.
I thought Dalembert & Kaman were either RFA or UFA?
My top two targets are either of DET's bigs.

They wouldn't be long term answers like Olshey said he would add to the team, so they are not on the list

Hmm, well neither would Pachulia, or half the guys on your list.

Like?

Pachulia is only 29 by the way

Not that it applies to what you said but I just happen to see this tweet.

Alex Kennedy ‏@AlexKennedyNBA 4m
Suns may trade Marcin Gortat in next year. He met with Suns brass this offseason to discuss future. He's 29, expendable after Alex Len pick.

I don't think we are nearly as shitty as they are.

You guys have to be kidding yourselves if you think we are getting Drummond or Monroe.

Side note: Pek or Bynum.

I am really liking the idea of going bog or going home with Bynum. if he can stay relatively healthy, Portland takes a gigantic leap. Again, if healthy that might be one of the best starting units in the league on paper.

Lillard
Matthews
Batum
Aldridge
Bynum

Bench
McCollum
Barton
Leonard
Claver
Crabbe
Freeland
Whitey
FA vet

If not healthy then we deal Aldridge at the deadline for a pick in 2014 and some young players and start over.

One day after the Phoenix Suns drafted Alex Len with the fifth pick in the NBA draft, Marcin Gortat was assured by the organization that it has no plan to trade him – for now – and might want to make him part of the future, his agent Guy Zucker told RealGM.After the draft, Gortat had understood the Suns’ clear transition into retooling the roster, leading to belief a trade would be beneficial to both sides. Yet, Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said Thursday that Gortat would fill a mentoring role for Len.“It’s clear they are in a rebuild and they drafted a center, so [a trade] would make sense, but for now they want to hold onto him,” Zucker said Friday afternoon. “As with everything in the league, it should be stated: As of today.”Throughout most of the season, Gortat had been in trade speculation and made clear his desire to be a contributor on a winning team.Gortat, 29, has one season left on his contract and could start negotiations on an extension in July. He has established himself as a double-double center over the past three years, enjoying a career season with Steve Nash two seasons ago. Gortat averaged 11.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 61 games last season.

Here's a thing on Splitter that seems bluntly honest:

The problem is I don't think Tiago can realistically get much better at this point. He doesn't have a jump shot and, while his improvement from the line could be taken as an encouraging sign, won't likely develop one in the near future. He has very good footwork in the post but he lacks the lower body strength to back guys down and his awkward release has him scoring on a solid but unspectacular 43.2% of his post ups. He's a good passer out of the low block and can find cutters, but if the other team pressures him, he can be turnover prone. And he mostly plays below the rim, which means he gets blocked a fair amount.
He could get better on the things he does now, namely screen setting, pick and roll scoring and finishing at the rim, but he is already pretty good there, so the potential for improvement is limited. Similarly, Splitter is a very good overall defender and near elite in the post (opponents only score on 32,8% of their attempts), but he won't suddenly become the type of disruptive shot blocker that changes the other team's game plan. And while he is deceptively good guarding in the perimeter on switches or pick and rolls, he doesn't have the foot speed or instincts to do it for more than small stretches.

Sound pretty damning, right? But:

Re-sign Splitter even if you have to overpay a bit, unless there is a clear sign that one of the big time free agents will join the team. By clear sign I mean a deal already in place at least in principle. No gambles. With such a small window and so many teams looking to add someone, the Spurs need to be absolutely sure that they can get a player that can bring at least what Splitter provided as a defender, or add another dimension to the team, before letting the Brazilian go.

I say you should flush that idea. Bynum is such an utter tool, I would find it hard to root for the team. He needs to be left to dangle a while as punishment for what he did to the Sixers.

I'm wondering what the chances are of getting Asik for literally nothing. If Houston needs to clear the space to max out Howard, we could throw them a second rounder or something and bring back Asik for free.

no chance. There are a lot of teams who would covet a guy like Asik and his value around the league is high

100% agree, his knees are as bad as his attitude, stay away from this guy

But that's not the point. They need the cap space. They can't bring back assets outside of draft picks. So how much will people pay?
