...plus if there's somebody that's truly worth getting in the draft, I'm sure Paul's checkbook can figure out a way to get that somebody.
If only that were true, we'd have a top 5 pick every year.

The playoffs/draft pick will take care of itself, regardless of what any of us want.

Beat LA!

Bullshit. We need to make the playoffs.

I agree... without any question. The odds of moving up in this years draft, should we be lottery, are extremely small. Making the playoffs this year would be the first for L.A. as the focus of the Blazers offense. IMHO... the playoff experience for our entire core would be more valuable than a crap shoot 1st round pick. Go Blazers!!!

why? so they can get swept in the first round and lose their 1st round pick?
No, because it means that Lilliard and Aldridge are driven enough and good enough already to get a bird-bath-shallow team into the playoffs, and it also means that they need less help than many think.

Yes, making the playoffs would show that, but the team needs talent. There is no way around that.

The bench is thin. They need a better C and a better SG.

They need to keep the pick. Making the playoffs won't improve the team.

Do they really need a better sg? Really?

yes? If you can draft a better SG than Wesley, you do it.

I like Wesley, just as a backup.

He has a sub-par PER, and would be a much better 6th man than starter.

I dont necessarily think they need a better sg. Get a Tony Allen defensive minded type to start with Wes off the bench.

Honestly how many sgs are that better than Wes in the league right now? Sg is a pretty thin pool right now and id say Wes is in between 10 to 20 when ranking sgs

I meant via the draft. There's a couple potentially good SG's in the draft.

The only reasonable approach is to play to win, period.

And we'll do that - and still only win 7 more games for the rest of the season. Win/win...or lose/win as the case may be.

That's just never going to happen. I doubt LMA could even lead a team in the East to the 8th seed.

I guess. At this point id take bpa. If its a SF do it and just play nic at sg with Wes off the bench if the SF plays well.

We need talent, so I wont care about position much this draft

Uh huh - wake me when he leads a team to the Playoffs.

And when he does next year youll just say it was,all lillard and batum. So its a losing proposition. The rest of us will sit back and applaud our all star

Well, it WILL be Lillard that leads that team. So...

Could be. But right now NBA coaches say lma is our best player, not lillard.

Ill take the coaches word for it right now.

You very well could be right about lillard next year, but to write off lma is laughable.

They do. Doesn't make 'em right. I mean, now that both Sloan and (ugh) PJ are out of the league there's only one bonafide great coach. There's a handful of adequate coaches, and the rest of the league is coached by chuckle-heads. I mean, Nate McMillan was a coach for...how many years? And let's not pretend that politics don't come into play - no coach is going to vote in a rookie over the "veteran cornerstone".

We own our pick now. Assuming the 13th or 14th pick don't jump into the top 3.

Currently @ 12th-worst. We're 4.5 games out of the playoffs, and 4.5 games out of the #8 slot.

It might be time to call this one. We can't "overtake" CLE, WAS, ORL, CHA, PHX, NOH or SAC, but DET, TOR, PHI are there for the passing and we need to stay behind the L*kers and Mavs (and MIL if one of the DET/TOR/PHI sneaks in to the playoffs)

Tank it up. This might be our last chance at a lotto pick in a while (depending on how Neil does this summer).

Screw the pick. If it was so damned valuable, we shouldn't have traded it away in the first place. Besides, won't next year's draft be much deeper? What about the year after that? We've got to pay the price sooner or later, I'd rather it happen in a year with a really shallow draft.

It seems pretty obvious that the trajectory of this team is up, especially when you factor in the offseason where we have 13M to spend. If we hold onto the pick this year, there is a good chance the pick we end up losing will be worse, because we're only going to get better. This truly should be the last year for a while where there are real benefits to losing - so get on board!

Agreed. If Neil does his job, we shouldn't be anywhere near the lottery next year. This team with a bench will at least be a sixth or seventh seed I think. Dame will only get better, as will Batum, and Aldridge will continue to be an All-Star caliber player.

My biggest hope is to see Dame start to get some fuggin calls next year. He should be averaging 6-8 FTA per game right now. Stupid refs.

No kidding. I do think one of the things he needs to work on is finishing at the rim. But the refs aren't helping him in that area, that's for sure.

He's definitely trying to finish at the rim more, and his FG% at the rim is really good, but yeah, he's certainly not being encouraged to go to the rim by the NBA with the complete lack of calls.
