Check this out. If you go to internet archive databases, you can look at the mocks that some of these draft websites were making at this point last year. Here's the mock from Draft Express at this time, last year -

Not making a point about any particular prospect in 2013, but I thought it'd be interesting to offer up as an example of how much things can change over a year's time.

EDIT: Not really sure why the link isn't working, but if you go to http://web.archive.org and type in draftexpress.com or nbadraft.net, you can view their mock archives. Draft Express's mock right after last year's draft had a top five of 1) Anthony Davis 2) Harrison Barnes 3) Jared Sullinger 4) Perry Jones 5) Quincy Miller. It was actually a really great mock, considering it was an entire year ahead of time, but I just wanted to offer it up for conversation about how players' games can develop differently than we'd expect.

Your first link worked for me, that was pretty interesting.

With the Blazers in the re-building phase, I think next years draft will be a prime time to deal LMA on draft night.

I am not so sure.

Keep an eye out for a deadline deal with us taking back a big contract with leftover cap space. We could sneak into the 8th seed

THE HCP is confused........ I was under the assumption that we don't have a first round pick this next year...... we sent it to Charlotte. Is he wrong?

IIRC, the pick is lotto protected until 2014/2015. I could be wrong but I do know there is some sort of protection on it.

And Chad Ford doesn't agree that next years draft is good anyway. Sounds like this is one to miss.

The 2012 NBA draft didn't have a lot of sizzle, but it had plenty of depth. With virtually all of the top underclassmen deciding to declare, it was stocked with talent. The 2013 draft? Ugh.

The 2013 draft is so devoid of top returning underclassmen and has such a marginal freshman class, one NBA scout said our 2013 Top 100 list may be the weakest since the dreaded 2000 NBA draft

When you remember that the best prospect out of the 2000 draft was 46th pick Michael Redd, you get a picture of what we might be in for.

Overall, the draft class of 2013 should be considerably weaker than 2012. However, it's important to remember that some players that we're not talking about yet will rise -- they always do. Dion Waiters, Damian Lillard and Meyers Leonard weren't listed as potential lottery picks before the season, for example.

It's top heavy. Ford also said the consensus from the scouts he talked to say the 2014 draft will be the same.

The cream of the crop: Zeller, Noel, Muhammad...

Charlotte Bobcats: Receives Portland’s 2013 first-round pick (top-12 protected through 2015) via the Gerald Wallace trade on 2/24/11.

Bam!

Fuck ya! So we just have to be about as bad as last season and we get to keep out lottery pick!!!!

no the key is to be worse then we were last season. no 12-5 start to screw up the tank job. having pick 6-14 next year will suck because the draft isn't seen as being nearly as deep as this years was. it's top 5 or bust next year.

Sign me up. I can live with one season of developing young talent and taking some losses.
Absolutely. Play Lillard, Leonard, Barton, Freeland, Claver, Nolan, E-Will, Babbitt and I'm pretty sure we'll have a great shot at the top of the lottery next year, LOL. It's a process. I basically boycotted the team last season, but this season I will definitely be there. I love watching and evaluating the young guys. Should be some good seats available. :)

kinda excited to see the youngins play, so if its a learning process, a high pick would be a nice bonus

that said, if lma, batum, wes, and whomever else can make the playoffs, more power to them

Can anybody else live with us being shitty next year after looking at how good the top of the 13' draft already is.

I'm salivating over McAdoo. Guy is a hybrid 4 that can play with the rock in his hands.

Cody Zeller has McHale like footwork.

Noel is supposed to be every bit the defender Anthony Davis' is.

Shabazz Muhammed has superstar potential.

I have been on record a 1000 times at least hoping we are shitty enough to land a big prize next year

Why couldn't this Zeller be in the draft?

[video=youtube;h6IrTEWLoy8]

Watch him take it to Anthony Davis a couple times in that video :)

If we got Shabazz I'd cream my pants. Dude can BALL.

Cody Zeller looks like a ballerina playing among sumo wrestlers. You can't teach soft hands and post moves like that. To have them better than 99% of the NBA at age 19.....GTFO!

Zeller FTW

Scouts say this draft, and possibly the 2014 draft, are going to be very weak but top-heavy.

mcadoo oh goodness, please

Cody Zeller for PFOTF.

His footwork and feel for the game are off the charts.

Just as long as he doesn't have any medical red-flags, of course.

noel is the next garnett, total beast

It's funny how much things can change in a year.

McAdoo was a big disappointment after showing so much promise early on. I still like Zeller a lot and thing he can be a star. Mohammed I'm not that high on. My boy Olynyk said whats up sucka I'm getting drafted ahead of yo azz.
