Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Wouldn't mind GS getting in on the Cavs and Bobcats' desperation for a decent PF. Give them Lee for some second/third tier prospects and an expiring vet or two, go balls out in 2014 free agency (Jefferson, Biedrins, Bogut, Rush off the books).

Does anybody still think Lee is decent? After watching NY take off after he left and the Warriors do better in the playoffs when he was out, and after that embarrassing study in the Sloan conference? YOU clearly don't, and you're a fan of his current team!

To say he's not decent is insane. Hes got big time flaws but thats the case for most PFs in the league right now.

I think everyone knows exactly how good (or not good) he is at this point. I just wouldn't mind exploring a trade with some pathetic bottom feeder desperate for an "all-star", "All-NBA third teamer". Being a fan of a garbage franchise my whole life, I know how they operate. Worst that could happen is they tell us to fugg off, but its worth looking into from GS perspective.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

surprising how quiet the trade and even rumor front is this morning, is this going to be a dud of a draft for trades or is this the calm before the storm?

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

If Batum made those kind of jumps, I'd eat as much crow as possible.
I don't really want to continue yesterday's entire conversation, but I just wanted to say that, personally, I thought Nic made a fairly dramatic jump last season. Seeing him run half-court sets and rack up assists was, IMO, a heck of a jump. Hopefully we'll continue to see improvement from him. But if not, he's still better than guys like Prince, Posey, Battier, Bowen, etc - and that's the sort of role he'd play on a championship team.

He had more assists last season than in his previous 4 combined. I'd say that's making a big improvement.

There is no doubt he has made improvement. I would like much more for a 11 mil player. I would be happy if he was just a little more aggressive, driving to the hoop, getting to the line and forcing a few shots when the team needs it. I want to see more leadership.

If he could manage to do that, than the idea of losing Aldridge for draft picks and young prospects aren't that bad. Right now, I am definitely not comfortable trading Aldridge in this regard.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

How much Batum makes is not relevant to his production on the floor. Some players are underpaid. Some are overpaid. (OK, they are all overpaid, LOL.) The question is what is his role and value to the team? What are our options with or without him? Would trading him improve the team overall? I'm sick of reading that he isn't worth his salary, and not because I disagree, but because his salary is not relevant to 90% of the discussions about what he brings to the team. Unless we are talking about him in trade scenarios, I don't give a fuck about how much money he makes.

Batum is the Blazers' third best player. He is still improving his game. I don't get the need to rag on the guy, who played with an injured wrist for a full third of the season, and was exceeding everyone's expectations prior to the wrist injury. It's draft time, coming up on free agent time. My hope and desire is that Olshey can improve the team and make Batum the fourth best player on the team. That would be a pretty good team.

He was not exceeding everyone's expectations - just ask RoyToy. Even when Batum was garnering some serious attention with his 5x5 and triple doubles, he was merely mediocre.

Oladipo said he's heard rumors about Minnesota trading up for him. Had a real good workout and talk with Flip Saunders. Says it's possible

One of the worst players per dollar. The NBA really messed up asking for him.

Until the his last knee injury, he was a rising star. Now he's looking Like Roy or Michael Redd with a promising career probably cut short. At the time of the NBA trade, I don't think anyone had any idea the extent of his injury situation.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I saw that too. Batum for Gordon and #6? Risk the injuries for a shot at Bennett?

That would be interesting. Doesn't help defensively though. It does certainly help with scoring depth.

Rival executives, more & more, list Houston as favorite in Dwight Sweepstakes ahead of Lakers. Trading T-Rob means Rockets can offer D12 max

WHat would we get for the #6 pick? Gordon is a huge huge risk! How many years left on Gordon's contract?

High risk, high reward. Bennett has a chance to be a better version of the Manimal and could possibly step in the PF spot if LA is moved down the road.

Orlando has been doing a great deal of work on players in late lottery-mid 1st round range, weighing possible deals out of No. 2 spot.

If management thinks in this way; we are doomed... The pay scale for a player is absolutely a factor in the new CBA. The luxury tax penalties are kicking in and teams won't pay them for role players that make 11-12 mil per season. Sorry, I disagree. If you are making anything more than 9 mil; you better be more than a role player, IMO.

This. It does matter in the new CBA. No more free spending, get above the tax and you're screwed now, if its repeated at least.

Batum, at his current pay rate, is GUARANTEED to be either our second or third highest earner, NO MATTER WHAT.

So he better be our second or third best player, but I don't see this team winning a championship with him as the second best player. Third, possibly, if he makes significant improvement dribbling and his defense steps up again.

The guy seemingly NEVER plays a great offensive game with a great defensive game, which is what he is capable of.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Christ!!!! I would hate for that to back fire. Isn't he making around the same as Batum?

no way can I see Por, after the experiences of Roy and Oden, taking a chance on a guy with knees like Gordon and a huge contract left to pay - simply no way in Hell!

You need consistency when you pay a player that much of you cap. No excuses when you make that kind of cash. Your wrist hurts and it's affecting your jumper? Then you need to impact the game in other ways.

I agree... it's just not smart to have a player like that on this roster.
