Figured to post this so we can look at what "unrestricted" players are available this summer. What would be your 1st and 2nd choice of each position if we had a shot at them?

Here is the list of unrestricted per position: Note that some free agents are absolutely unobtainable because of our market or the fact that the team they play for would most likely offer a good contract.

PG: Paul, Billups, Mo Williams, Calderon, Jack, Harris, Livingston, Gibson, Robinson, Udrih, A.J. Price, Will Bynum, Nolan Smith, Watson, Tinsley, Telfair.

SG: Ginobli, Martin, Foye, Allen, Redick, Young, Brewer, Korver, Daniels, Morrow, Barbosa, Wesley Johnson, Belineli, Webster, Mike Dunleavy Jr., Dominique Jones, Williams, Bell, Dahntay Jones, Bogans, Mason Jr.

SF: Stephen Jackson, Brewer, Budinger, Josh Howard, Maggette, Matt Barnes, Childress, Young, Alan Anderson, Cartier Martin, Luke Babbitt, Jerry Stackhouse, Luke Walton,

PF: Josh Smith, David West, Paul Milsap, Elton Brand, Antwan Jamison, Odom, JJ Hickson, Tolliver, Sheed Wallace, Blatche, Brandan Wright, Amundson, Chris Wilcox, Josh McBob, Kurt Thomas, Radmanovic, Maxiell, Murphy, Clark.

Centers: Dwight Howard, Bynum, Al Jefferson, Kaman, Dalembert, Pachulia, Blair, Mohammed, Pryzbilla, Jerm Oneal, Milicic, Hollins, Turiaf, Diop, Jason Collins, Petro, Barron, Aldrich.

Here are my picks:
PG: 1st - Billups, 2nd - Jack

SG: 1st - Redick, 2nd - Korver

SF: 1st - Barnes, 2nd - Webster

PF: 1st - Hickson, 2nd - Josh Smith

Center: 1st - Dalembert, 2nd - O'Neal

Good UFA won't come to Portland unless they are over payed, or no one wants them

I disagree with you entirely! We have had unrestricted come here. The better teams will be using their cap space to grab the top of the litter. What's left will be in our territory.

Guys that CHOSE to come to Portland as their first choice that were in demand?

guys only sign for less for a chance to win a championship. it isn't the "big market/small market" per se, but the lure of rings.

heres a little clue on how FA works

whoever offers the most money, usually gets the player

there are exceptions to the rule, such as when jamal crawford came here last year, rumor was he had better offers, but for the most part, money talks

mags, your list is realistic...whats up with that?

cp3
ginolbli
sjax
jsmoov
dho

boom

I'd go after Kevin Martin/JJ Reddick first from that list. Then maybe Kamen/Dalembert

Wow thanks.

So Portland gets the what's left after the other teams get their pick? Portland has had money before and ended up missing on their top several choices because they signed elsewhere

PG: Calderon, Udrih

SG: Martin, Foye, Redick, Brewer, Barbosa

SF: Brewer, Budinger, Matt Barnes

PF: Paul Milsap, JJ Hickson

Centers: Kaman, Dalembert, Pachulia

I left only the ones that are semi-reasonable and that I wouldn't mind having, depending on the circumstances. I'm not wowed by anybody on the list*.

*Edit - I like Milsap. And either Calderon or Udrih would be a fantastic back-up, but I suspect they can start elsewhere in the league (along with Milsap).

because we didn't offer the most money.

I think people are missing that Portland hasn't had significant cap space for years. The last significant amount was when we signed Andre Miller. Before that; we had very little to offer. That maybe the best reason why big name free agents never made it here.

last year?

last year?

Until we had to match Batum's offer sheet. And Hibbert actually was quoted that he was going to accept the max offer. Indy was just going to match regardless.

money talks, always has

sorry, I see what you were saying.

It's all good. I am just saying that we are just assuming no one wants to go to Portland because we are a small market, etc. I personally think that we could have landed free-agents if we actually had the cap space to offer players. I also seem to remember the year we signed Miller; Millsap actually signed our offer sheet as well. And that very same year, we would have had max if Miles didn't play for memphis. I wonder how that would have turned out?

way to derail an otherwise well designed thread

Here are my picks:
PG: 1st - Harris, 2nd - Jack, 3rd - Robinson

SG: 1st - Barbosa, 2nd - Redick

SF: 1st - Babbit, 2nd - Budinger

PF: 1st - Hickson, 2nd - Josh Smith

Center: 1st - Dalembert, 2nd - Darko

P.S. with Lillard Batum and Aldridge becoming stars in the league, RFA's will want to come here if they have a chance to win games.

Probably horrible, we would still have Hedo right now!

We already offered Hedo and he didn't accept (Thank God)! But there were others we had our eye on when we had max available; but had to go for others after we lost the 9 mil from Mile's salary.

he took a little mroe from Toronto. Who knows, with more space, we might have went higher

FA's I see as reasonable targets:

PG: Jack, Harris, Robinson, Bynum, Watson.

SG: Foye, Redick, Barbosa, Webster

SF: Brewer, Budinger, Childress,

PF: Blatche, Brandan Wright

Centers: Kaman, Dalembert, Pachulia, Jerm Oneal, Turiaf, Aldrich.

Clearly, SF and PF are our lowest priorities, so I only listed a couple for each of those.

Going through this (thanks Mags!) actually makes me a lot more optimistic for next season, because it seems like we should be able to pick up a few ~$4m vets to round out and deepen our team, because there are a lot of guys listed in the OP that will pick up the big money before we get around to spending ours (hopefully) more reasonably.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I actually wanted to just post the SGs because of all this talk with Matthews being a 6th man or starter. I wanted to see the guards available. Then I decided "WTF" why not look at the entire free-agent pool. After looking at it; there are a bunch of players probably getting big deals that we won't be too interested in. That means teams with cap space will probably nab the bigs first. I think the guards will be last on the free-agent list; with the exception of a couple players.

Your targets all would help this ball club and there is at least 4-5 guaranteed if we had two 4-5 mil contracts to offer.

I forgot all about Devin Harris, how did he implode so quickly?

I remember when we didn't want to trade Outlaw for him.

I doubt Hedo would be in our sights if we had max available.

Look at the free agent pool then, we could have tossed out max to many way better players than Turk. We settled because the market for the other free agents were higher.

This will be a fun thead to bump in the middle of July.

like who?

Well at the time, we were really thin at SF. Ariza, Marqis Daniels, Finley, Drew Gooden, AL HArrington, Grant Hill, Kyle Korver, Shawn Marion, Millsap (Because we could have offered max and probably utah wouldn't match), Lamar Odom, Leon Powe, Joe Smith
