Splitter postgame said Jrue is out - maybe back for GS. Jerami is day to day.

I watched the game. Shaedon looks great he just needs to limit himself to 3-4 three point attempts per game unless he's just knocking them down easy. Otherwise he should just spam teams taking the rock to the hoop and getting in his bag a little from mid range. Deni looked good at times on O. Both of those guys are really active on defense, for Deni that's not new but Shaedon keeps showing a new level of commitment on D.

With every game I watch I'm more and more convinced that this system is not for traditional 5s on either end of the court. I like Donovan but I would bet he has value out there, we should take the value we can get.

I love this style of ball and think the team should stick with it but cash in Donovan for what you can and then use the picks we've stocked up and/or our vets to get some good young small ball 5s. They've got to be switchable on D and be able to both run a lot on O and hit the open three and look good enough doing it that teams will respect it when we go 5 out to give Shaedon and Deni more room to opporate.

It feels like we're already starting the soft tank. Like being ultra-cautious with guys and injuries or phantom DNPs and kind of seeing who of the younger guys is worth keeping. Not risking playing Jrue or Jeramie too much so they're either healthy so we can trade them or healthy for next year.

If you are going to tank you better start early. Why put up 25 wins and then pull the rug?

I really don't know what role Dame will have next year. I think the most likely role for him will be a sharp shooter off the bench. Due to the fact that we don't know what Dame will be like we shouldn't plan the roster for him.

Personally I don't want to go back to hero ball, I want the team to continue to play this brand of ball (more consistently and at a higher level). So if this is how we'll play we should commit the roster to that.

Exactly how I feel about Donovan, “if” we are going to play this style we need mobile athletic big who can cover switches, blocl shots, rebound and catch lobs. Problem is if we get a new coach we are likely going to completely change how we play, most likely go back to pick and rolls like 90% of nba teams

Sharpe's 3 pt shooting continues awful, he's gotten worse at 3 pt shooting every yr in the league - seems really weird. First yr shot 36%, 2nd yr 33.3%, 3rd yr 31.1%, this yr so far 25.8% - WTF! Don't know if I've ever seen this. I really like what he's doing beside the 3's

Yang played pretty well. Love was surprisingly good.

Whoever said we all need to apologize to Kris Murray ... needs to apologize to all of us. Four shots and four rebounds in 25 minutes. It was the stuff not in the boxscore that was most problematic, though. There was a couple of minutes in the 3Q where he got the ball cutting baseline and passed up a 2-foot shot. Later, he ballfaked for an open 3 and passed it up, then was open again from 3 almost immediately and passed it up, then stood there on the wing and waited for Love, all 6-3 of him, to come from the other wing to set a screen for the point. Just ugh. This is a game where he could have shot and no one would have cared because we needed someone to produce offense. And only committed one foul, too, which can be seen as a sign of inactivity.

Obviously, Murray wasn't the reason the Blazers lost tonight, but he's just got to be better than this, because it's almost nothing. He looks like a guy waiting to play out his contract so he can go back to Iowa where he'll happily run his own insurance business or something.

Yup, that was a stinker from Kris. On the plus side we've got you watching him more attentively than his own mother.

I still think Tou and Sharpes 3 point shotting percentage will improve over time this year. They both have great shooting form so it comes down to two things
1. Confidence
2. They type of 3’s your taking when your shooting poorly from 3 make sure they you are taking good 3’s.

While I’d love to win I take this year as all about development.

Sharpe had his best year when Dame was here and playing. I’m wondering if he’s more suited for catch and shoot threes instead of these pull-ups or step backs that he’s been launching. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a pretty form to poor result divide. I hope they start falling either way.

This brand of ball is fun to watch, but you have to be willing and able to accept the high rate of injuries.

There’s a story on The Athletic about the league-wide increase in pace and the associated increase in injuries. If the number of games was dropped to 60 or so, it would be great because there would be greater rest between games. The Blazers have increased their pace by over 3 possessions per game over last season’s already frenetic level. Their injuries are up as a result. I think there’s no disputing that the fast pace benefits a team lacking in great shooting but getting more shots in the paint before the defense is set. The flip side is that you’re going to need great depth to remain a winner when the injury bug bites. There’s Blazers aren’t deep with experienced players and we’re seeing that playing G-League talent isn’t going to win many games.

you're not the first to extol the virtues of the "system". Portland's current 'system' has them ranked 16th in offense and 22nd in defense.

On offense Portland is 23rd in FG%, 28th in 3ptFG%, 14th in 2ptFG%, 24th in eFG%, & 22nd in TS%. They are 22nd in assists but 24th in turnovers. Almost all of those numbers would be worse except that the Blazers are 10th in FTA; but that's mainly because of the dribble-drives of Deni, Shae, and Jrue. There's very little system in that.

About the only thing Portland does at a top-5 level on offense is offensive rebounds, and that's because of Clingan, who is 2nd in offensive reb/game, 3rd in offensive rebound rate, and 3rd in offensive rebounds/100-possessions. And we know that possessions after offensive rebounds are about the highest value possessions and the most efficient.

Last night was the first time this season when Clingan hasn't chucked a three. The result was he had 7 offensive rebounds and 5 blocks. I've complained about the Meyers Leonard syndrome; about C's like Clingan getting parked behind the 3 point line far away from offensive rebounding position. It's one thing to come out 18' from the hoop to set a screen then dive back into the paint. It's an entirely different thing after setting a screen to continue outward to the arc. A 7'2 guy in PnRoll=good; same guy in PnPop= wtf. It's not just floor position I object to, it's that I think parking a C out there creates a mind-set and attitude that makes him less intense and less physical when he is in the paint, on either end of the floor. You have your theory...I have mine

in other words, you want to dump Clingan because of your theories about a system that isn't successful enough to be in the top-half of teams in the league? that has generated a 6-8 record and a 2-5 record over the last 7 games. A system that is so remedial it's half-court offense is completely dependent on one-on-one-dribble-drives by Deni, Shae, and Jrue? I get that Portland's pace has been more entertaining this season. Well here's another 'pace' number: Portland's current win/loss pace would have them with 35 wins, one less than last season. Yeah, let's dump Clingan for that
