The Big Buck has truly turned into a DT more than a DE. Buckner is 6'7 and 298 ish.... Cowart gives up size and weight to him first, and is true DE by his frame. If we were blessed to get him, I would even love to see him cover that 15 yard and under 3rd down area we've been getting slammed on with the pass due to his speed at the LB spot! Cowart is an edge guy that will get to the QB and cause havoc. He's not a DT though. He's a shorter version of Dion Jordan.

you really think Cowart is going to be dropping into coverage 70% of the time like Dion did and Washington does?

He's stated part of the reason he's interested in Oregon is that they know how to beef him up for the NFL... Big Buck is one of many examples of this. Last summer between his HS Jr & Sr years, Byron was already 15 lbs heavier then Dion ever was at UO & about the same weight DeForest was when he played the other DE spot as a College Freshman... the same position he's still playing today that you're now calling a DT. I find it very curious how you're inflating Buckner's weight over what the school's official weight for him is (290). Remember just a month back when with zero evidence to point to you were insisting it's the coaches thats are "always" inflating players weights so as to game the opponent? That the coaches are always lying trying to get others to believe their DLine is bigger then they are :smiley-think:

If Oregon is lucky enough to land Cowart's commitment & at the same time doesn't fire it's DC & DL coach and install a completely new system as you've been constantly calling for, I'll wager whatever that he's a hand on the ground Down Lineman playing the same spots DeForest and Arik currently flip flop on. After all, thats where he's stated Aiken & Pellum have been recruiting him for. Regardless of where he commits, I expect he'll weigh North of what "Big Buck" was listed his Freshman year (265).

I don't think Cowart and Buck have the same body frame at all is what I'm saying. Cowart with 30 pounds may not be the same player Buckner is with the same amount of weight added. Cowart is not a Sapp, Fairley, Suh type of frame although he's their height at the position you suggest he wants to play. Cowart's greatest weapon is his edge quickness to get into the backfield. His frame and size are both average to undersized even for a DE. 5 on frame and 6 on size. I have serious doubts that massive weight gains for this young man might in fact hurt his ability he's clearly dominating in HS now with.

That's why I suggested a DDE/LB would be great for his strength set. I seriously doubt that if he goes to BAMA, FSU or Florida he'll even see a DT position with his name on it. They'll say son "you may want to be a DT but your frame reads DE and that's where ya need to be!"

I could be wrong but when he went up against Martez Ivey head to head and not off the edge, Ivey shut him down. They'll have a line of Ivey's at the next level at most SEC schools and a few Pac schools too!

CeCe to Ole miss maybe, Cowart looking like Bama is a major player as he cools on Florida (Oregon never being a serious player)

Great, more Ole miss paying players to come by. And damnit Bama has too many pash rushers. Doens't he realize that?

Does the Ofodile visit have any real teeth to it or did he just check out their campus?

for what it's worth... following his OV at the UW game, Alex has confirmed he will be a Duck.

same amount of added weight? Buckner's Sr year of HS he was listed at 230 lbs. while Cowart was measured at 258 prior to his Senior year even starting.

lets at least agree on what reality is... facts aren't debatable. There is nothing the "same" about Byron adding 30 pounds compared to DB adding 60

I think it's possible we could grab Green, Manu and Kaumatale.... That would be a huge win for this defensive staff!

We're probably not grabbingGreen. Too much into the Sark cool-aid and playing close to his home and family. Manu and Kanton is our best shots

I don't know if it still holds true, but Russell Ude called Oregon his leader at the beginning of the summer. There is a whole a lot to like about that kid.

Our elite DB targets have pretty much moved on. Slim shot would be it.

We've new offers to low 3 star Tyler Phillips and moderate 3 star athlete Javarius Davis.

Visits would be for late in the season if they happen.

read that Georgia DL Russell Ude has cancelled his OV trip for this weekend as part of moving all of his OVs until after his HS season is complete. From the sounds of it Oregon remains one of his top choices.

According to Davis he's being recruited for offense at RB/Slot. I hadn't heard about a Phillips offer but have long wondered why he's so low rated following such outstanding results in the Sparqs testing

I'll be surprised if unlike every other year Oregon doesn't have a few recruiting surprises up it's sleeves to spring on us. Remember, only the recruits relay info about where they're being recruited. Especially the higher rated kids are inundated by calls from the recruiting sites as well as the coaches recruiting them, and it's pretty common for them to shut down that communication. Reading tea leaves, Texas CB Jalen Campbell's OV this weekend has been suspended/pushed back... I wonder why that might be?

Think we'll get Uluave with the depth on our O-line?

That's fine. How does football players taking mormon missions stay in shape?

They usually fill out quite a bit in those two years, and become a little more physically mature when they start playing again

also holy crap that makes me feel old. Its been a loooooong time since we though Hamani Stevens was going UCLA and picked Oregon. Forgot about all that.

Well that's odd. Guess we feel good about our chances with the DE's coming into the OV? Manu, Green, and Canton?

Josh Sweat - "I'm still considering five schools – Ohio State, Georgia, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Oregon," Sweat told Clark. "I've still had a lot of contact with the first four schools, but not as much with Oregon. We do talk some, though."

If true, Oregon's muted interest could be for several reasons, but one possible scenario is that the Ducks coaching staff sees Sweat as a long shot at this point and have decided to use its resources elsewhere.

those guys are DE's? Okay... regardless of the label, adding them to KLS, Beckner, Gallimore & and the rest said in the mix and I'm feeling more then good about how all things Dline are progressing as UO has never been in on so much top rated talent. Also, I'd note (again) that fans are (and will remain) largely in the dark about whats happening with recruiting. We speculate based on a smattering of guarded quotes and possible visits & find out after it's a done deal, sometimes months after said deal was done. All good things in all good time
