It's Tennessee. They have huge momentum at this point in time(and him and K.McKenzie would be a lethal one-2 punch at DT).

Quentez comitting elsewhere on july 4th, no visit having happened.

explain Aaron Springs who committed prior to visiting

we'll see about that. Tennessee already has 3 Dline commits in this class and chatter on rivals is they only have room for one more which is expected to be McKenzie. I'm hearing that Johnson's choice is down to late to the party NC State & the Ducks

Well Springs unofficially visited Oregon on june 18th, He officially visited after his commitment. But he still visited prior to committing, as has been with recruits. I've heard the Johnson chatter, but he still can't commit here until he visits, and it isn't like we won't hold a spot if he wants to take an official on the first game then commit after. He isn't coming here, he has had no official or unofficial visits.

Why would he commit to NC State. I mean, they are a bottom feeder in the ACC as opposed to one of top teams in the country.

also, word on Fred Ulu-Perry? We need centers

7 of the top 50 players in this years 247 rankings class are DT's and pretty damn impressive ones to boot. Oregon has offered 1 of them in Green that we have any shot with, although Daron Payne has said he'd love to visit Oregon. Our D tackle position will be very thin next year after Armstead and Buckner go pro. It is clear to me that if we can grab top talent kids like Taj from Georgia and Ofodile for Missouri and now we are raiding my back yard of Virginia for defensive players, kids all over the country know of us now. So why if you're top talent high school DT with a chance to play instantly for a top 5 program are you avoiding being a Duck? It can only be two things, 1 Aiken can't connect with these kids and isn't a closer, or our defensive tackle schematics aren't working for these top recruits "VISION" of how they should be used. I think it's the later. You've heard recruits say DT's are being used as punching bags instead of aggressive, penetrating weapons. Judging by the fact that we don't have a single DT of worth in this class knowing we are in dire need, I'd have to give some credence to these thoughts. Oregon doesn't get beaten on the edges or in the secondary, we get beaten right up the middle, Stanford and AZ have shown that. I think Oregon should go to a 4-3 and sell DT's that they are being brought in to be QB and backfield crushers. As we've seen the in the last 3-4 recruiting classes our DT results clearly need to improve! It should be noted that true DT's, Oregon has secured 4 since 2011. Ebert, Bair, Balducci and Jelks and I'd say most of us thinks Jelks at his size and weight is a stretch at the DT spot. Buckner was brought in as a DE and Armstead as an athlete/ DE too. We are missing the 6'3 300 pounds guys in a big way!

Positions is why. RBs and TEs and DBs are making it to the league left and right and Oregon, and look at the pull that has with those position. Not as many with DTs. We change that and the kids will come.

Most DTs play in the south and know of how successful SEC linemen are, or they get hype beyond belief for USC or they like to stay close to home. They must get winded over long distances travel wise just like on the football field :B

So following yet another year finishing as the top ranked Pac 12 team and after signing 4 kids who will play as Down Lineman in their 3-4 D, Oregon is somehow in desperate straights and needs to scrap everything from coaches to philosophies because it can't sign DLinemen and isn't winning the all important recruiting trophy. Among others, Oregon is leading for rivals #1 ranked player who happens to play DLine and credits Coach Aiken as a big part of his interest, but coach Aiken has terrible schemes and can't connect with kids. Two current DTs could potentially leave early for the pros and somehow at the same time the coaches can't develop kids for the pros. Despite signing a NT (Maloata) in the last class who is currently checking in at 6'3 300+, we're missing 6'3 300 lb players in a big way!

it all makes perfect sense

Deondre Francois names a top 3 of Florida State, Auburn & UO with the Ducks as a slight leader. He plans to visit each school on an unofficial & will also be in Oregon for the Opening. He plans on announcing towards the end of the summer.

Whatever the case may be or excuses made we need DT's with weight and good motors, time is not on our sides here. The playoffs kick in this year and who are we going to have fill in for Armstead and Buckner next year? Bair if he's "healthy", Maloata and Balducci? Outside of Balducci none of the above have seen a D1 game! I would give up a Cowart for a Daron Payne without hesitation right now.

Okay thats going too far. I would prefer cowart over payne anyday

Cowart is a DE that the Ducks could use like Dion "IF" he comes here, most think he's a lock to Florida. He wont stop the north to south running nor could he at 6'4 250, against 215 RB's stabled behind huge O lines like Bama, OK, Stanford or LSU can produce! I didn't say Aiken couldn't recruit rather the way we are using our DT's seems not to be working for recruiting "true" top tier DT's in the country which falls into a defensive line schematics issue. Otherwise we'd have a slew of DT's on this team right now, which we don't! Not converted, TE's or DE's but true DT's, there's a difference! Who was Oregon's last Ngata? Even Dion Jordan has said playing in a 4-3 would simplify things considerably! Instead of attacking Stomp, why not think outside of your very narrow box and realize our DT position needs massive work? Stanford, AZ, LSU have proven that. Once again I'm talking about the DT position specifically, so before you respond with your usual chronic bile, think! Is our DT position our strength in any way over the last 4 years? IF not how do we improve it? It's the only position we can't recruit!

Payne is a 5* 6'2 330 true DT! He's a north to south running, penetrating the O line KILLER! He's Stanford, Bama, LSU, OK O line nightmare! Cowart is an undersized Dion who I think Talia/ Prevot will more than make up for! In a heartbeat I take a true DT, we are getting killed at that position. Give me a Payne, Green or Thompson any day right now!

For that matter just give me a 3* kid with size, a motor and some anger in the trenches with a defensive scheme that plays to that an I'll be elated!

Instead of attacking Stomp...

good grief this act is tired. Throw out easily debunked nonsense, use said nonsense as the basis for why the wildly successful coaches and their philosophies should be sacked, and then cry about being attacked when posters don't agree.

wash rinse repeat

the coaches are aware that Payne expressed interest in them... if their "process" hadn't already started, it did then. They checked him out and months later he doesn't have an offer. I'm going to continue to trust the informed opinion of those idiot Duck coaches on who should receive UO offers over internet posters.

Translation...... You Stomp can't answer my specific question... Shocker! Guess your tea leaves aren't speaking to you anymore. But Blake was a nice read! That said.... Armstead, and Buckner were not DT's recruited, rather the best O lineman in high school and a DE who grew, and if you want to use Dion?.... A TE converted who played Drop DE. Now tell me who are our traditionally recruited DT's? Bair? Maloata and Balducci were DE's who got bigger, but no traditional DT's! So why Stomp? Just answer the question? This national class is stacked with DT's yet Oregon can't secure 1 true one! You can't tell me that Stanford hasn't run the ball down our DT's throats for two years and AZ followed suit. It's a problem and even if Buckner who I love and Armstead who I think is playing out of position step up huge this year, what are we going to do for next year? Keep it simple for you, just at the DT spot?

While college football always sees a lot of turnover of players from year to year, you are muddying this question in regards to Oregon with more nonsense. Bair played last year as did not mentioned Sam Kamp through a hand injury. Kamp claims to be healthy now and up to 6'5 296. TJ Daniel also has seen D1 time though it was as a TE. He's coming off a Redshirt year where transformed his body & game to the Defensive side and won Scout team player of the year honors. He was one of the guys the coaches regularly praised through Spring.

Armstead & Buckner will be eligible to leave for the draft, but we'll see if they do. DAT is the only true Junior in recent years who left early & his prospects were always higher then the two DLineman you're so sure are gone. It's funny to me that you've spent so much time blasting the quality of their DLine, but you've got those same players leaving early for the league

When Mariota leaves so will Armstead, why else did they take out such large insurance policies? Buckner is better than Armstead and everyone knows that, throw in Olomu.... and we have some holes next year, not to mention Grasu will be leaving too.... So we have an abundance of skilled players for sure, but we need DT's, FACT!!!! We need a replacement good center, and Morgan to take over "confident" with a year of tutelage with Marcus!

Really all I need to feel comfortable is that JC kid from Bama at DT and two more just like him star or none, just a motor and anger enough to make it happen! More than anything else I need a defensive scheme that lets our DT's be effective for once! Our secondary an LB's will be fine, a ready center and a good back up QB which I think Waller will provide.

Incoming freshmen rarely impact much, if we land cowart he would plug in and get some snaps like armstead did his freshman year. Waller needs several large leaps to get past 3rd qb if he signs.

True, but some of these JUCO kids we have gone after do make a quicker impact like Long, Walker or Talia, Harrison and Lousi will this year. Maybe in the 2015 class a kid like Ulrich Jones. It may be the JUCO way till we put a few of them in the NFL as big time DT talents.

For whatever reason and I think "it's the way we use them here specifically" Oregon can't recruit top DT's out of high school. We've recruited 4 true DT's since 2012. It's not a stretch to think this is the "KEY" position for this offseason and next years recruiting.

When Marcus leaves, we wont be striking TD's in blink of an eye and our defense will have to be able to carry more of the weight for longer periods of time. Unfortunately we're losing over 600 pounds of that by Feb.

I don't care how it gets done or with what star attachment these guys receive or from where, but no team is going to beat a Bama, LSU, OSU or FSU without real DT's! Your perfect DT's are 6'2 to 6'5 300 + pounds that are get under your pad guys that can get into a backfield and be disruptive, or at least make sure they've opened a big enough hole so our LB's can.

When you look at the top 10 DT's on 247 over last five years these kids 95% of the time meet that body type. There is no substitute unfortunately to this kind of leverage, motor, and pure raw anger/ power at this position.

I wish like Stomp thinks, you could just bring a 6-7 DE over or convert a TE to this position but you can't most of the time. You certainly can't make it your defense "LINE" game plan as Oregon recruits to do as of late! The games we've lost have been right through the middle and it's been pound it at us north to south running football geared directly at our DT's or lack there of! The last game against Stanford they threw the ball under 10 times I believe the whole game. The rest just like AZ and Stanford the year before was ground and pound clock management. MSU I promise will do the same to keep Mariota off the field! If we can't stop 3rd and 3's we can't win the national championship, it's really just that simple!

Everyone knows how great our offense is and I don't disagree, so better not let them on the field right? Slow grind north to south power run behind a great big O line will do just that and run the clock down too. The other part to this problem is when Oregon does get on the field with our O, guys like Marcus have to be PERFECT and deadly efficient to make up for time they would normally have.

There are big mean 300 pound + nightmares all over this country that would love a yearly meal plan, chefs, top of the food chain facilities and the ability to play on a national level. If they're not coming, it's the way we are using them I have to think. What else could it be?

Having a hard time with scholarship numbers, we have 9 so far. 5-OL (finished), 1 Rb, 1wr, 1TE, 1DB. I would like us to get 2 QB, but numbers seem to point to maybe just 1. We are still recruiting WR and RB like with Soso and Newsome, but I can't see us take one more of both especially after we probably land Athlete Stephen Johnson. Because if we get 2 QB, 2nd RB/WR and the Athlete that would but us at 14 and that makes a light defensive class. (we will probably land Locke making us 15 by this number route)
We also have more DB offers out there. Past 15 we are looking at 1 LB (peat/houston), 2 DE it seems (Cowart/Ude) 1 (DT, I know we are obsessed with this position but we don't seem to be going after many this cycle (Greene) One more DB like (campbell)

That would put us at 20
2 qb
2 wr
2 rb
5 ol
1 te
1-ath
3-db
2-de
1-dt
1-lb

Which is doable but stretching it considering the recent JC add on's most people are looking at maybe 18 by our usual route. Any comments or ideas on where we will finish total wise/ the make up?

That looks good from what I can see. Jones maybe our DT along with Ude, and Cowarts our DE. I would be more than okay with that(unless we manage to land Rasheem Greene, but he's a USC lock despite Jacobi Daniels being there). For LB I think it's down to USC or UCLA for Houston. He's a Gardena product(like Greene) so the USC guys are huge on them, but his HC is from UCLA and UCLA can pitch about them making good LBs(see: Barr and Myles Jack). Plus staying close to home helps. Adding Heard for our OLB spot may dissuade him but if he comes up, more power to us.

Also, word around the grapevine is that Waller and Locke are gonna commit to us tomorrow at the Opening. That will kick us up a few notches in the rankings for sure.

rivals folks are saying that the coaches offered Waller as an athlete. Of course players get to choose what position they go out for, but the staff believes he has the athletic talent to project at more spots then just QB

So to recap recent QB recruiting news... Waller is announcing tomorrow, Sam Darnold was on an unofficial visit over the weekend & Deandre Francois named UO as his leader and will visit in July

STOMP

Locke commits, he deserves a rating boost though 31 D1 offers and all.

he probably will, many of those have come lately. Rivals has him at 38 offers total including Yale so seemingly another kid with a good head on his shoulders

great day for Oregon recruiting, bad day for those who live to complain/worry about Oregon recruiting. What in the world will those people do once they secure this year's crop of DLineman?

PJ did the hat thing for his announcement with 4 on the table and none of them UO. He ended the big drama by pulling off his sweatshirt to reveal a Duck T shirt

Locke is such a tease :V

But yeah, I will admit I was a bit sore and loud when we were striking out on guys before hand. But I guess everyone need a good kick in the ass to get their heads on right, and for that it was missing out on 3 top tier Dual QBs. In hindsight, we should have offered Waller soon. He really loved us and I do admit I didn't like the coaches jerking them around.

Also, this is the first class we have ever had a top 10 WR, QB, and RB in this class. Chip hasn't had that. Ever.

Now let's go grab Cowarts and make this class legendary :)

Maybe they can pick up reading tea leaves, maybe even do it correctly, I hear it can sooth the Stomping headache I get from time to time!

A little more Waller for the moment.....

I had the chance to ask UCLA’s quarterback Brett Hundley his own thoughts on Waller…

"I had a chance to get to know him at the the Steve Clarkson Quarterback Retreat this year, and he is a natural born leader. The first thing I noticed was that the other QB’s gravitated towards him. He is an amazing passer who just so happens to be a great athlete. Which is a major plus in today’s game! Travis is a defensive coordinators worst nightmare!”

-UCLA’s QB Brett Hundley
