Love the Byron Jones pick for the Cowboys. Desperately needed help in the secondary.

Same here. Been hanging out over on 49er Forum since the start of the first round, and the whole forum was up in arms over this pick. Now on day two, many have calmed down and accepted it. "Well...it could work. Sure, let's give him a chance." I'm kind of swinging that direction. But I won't lie: I wanted the 9ers to trade up and get Amari Cooper in the 4th pick. I know: it was a stretch. Now, it's either DGB or McKinney in the 2nd Round. So they have to decide if they want to address the LB position with the best Linebacker still left, who can easily cover Graham Cracker up in Seattle, or if they want to take a Boom Or Bust pick on DGB. He could be GREAT, or just...."meh". And nevermind the fact if he gets into trouble again off the field. But a 6'5" WR would be a great weapon for Kap.

That's the thing: he's a project. And that is the LAST thing the 9ers need right now; especially since, for the most part, DL is already deep with the 9ers. I have a feeling that they drafted him with the sole purpose of stopping Lynch (I suppose Armstead is as good a chance of that as we're likely to see in this draft). And, if that's the case, then they just might draft McKinney to cover Graham. A 6'5" LB covering a 6'7" TE makes sense to me.

So the last thing the 9ers need is a project. To me: 1st Rounders are guys who can come in and make an immediate impact. Not guys who sit around for 2 years learning the ropes and getting their techniques ready. It would be one thing if we drafted him in the high 3rd or low 4th round (I personally had him pegged as a 4th round talent). But not the 1st.
 
Armstead is gonna surprise a lot of people. Gonna kick it into a new gear as a pro, like Andre Drummond. Kid was just waiting to get paid to start working.

He was a top 10 pick and they grabbed him at #17. Can't hate that. Bowman and the rest of the D are going to whip him into shape. He's gonna be a monster.

But at that pick, he should be expected to start come the regular season. And I just don't see it. Therefore, he should have been a 4th round pick. Or a high 3rd.
 
Hell, niners DL is stacked, not a bad thing. Baalke doesn't draft for need, he goes BPA. Rather that than a reach.
 
I'm saying it once more just to be annoying and a homer. But you guys are gonna love him. His job from the coaching staff was to eat up blockers. Freeing up Other playmakers. When he was let loose, and he didnt have to deal with his nagging ankle injury, he was dominant in the 2nd half of the season. When let loose, things like this happened, to some NFL Lineman at FSU

Armstead isn't gonna be a Lynch stopper, no one is. He plays to straight up at the moment. He was basically a space eater and even at the college level that was inconsistent.

I thought the niners should've picked up some secondary help, especially at safety where Reid is a couple more concussions away from thinking of hanging them up.

Completely agree. I don't see it. I'm big on guys producing big time in college over multiple years. Which is one reason I wanted Oakland to take cooper over white

lol, well I'm hardly going to convince you, am I? Lynch CAN be stopped, and HAS been stopped before by the 9er Defense. But it takes a mix of the right Defense and the right Players.

I do agree that Armstead plays too strait up/vertical at the moment. However, Tomsula said that he bent over low enough at the line, which was proper for someone his size. And if anyone knows this, it's a former DL Coach. If Tomsula can just tweak that a bit, I could see him stopping Lynch no problem (honing the right technique).

But again: Armstead is a big project. Never mind trying to stop Lynch.

Now, on to Day # 2. I like a number of people: Perryman, McKinney, or Strong. I think DGB should be taken in the 3rd round. I don't believe he's worth risking a 2nd round pick. God, I hope Seattle doesn't get him. Let him go to some shitty ass team in the AFC. That should humble him a bit.

Sadly, I think you are correct.

When people start making excuses for why a guy will be better in the pros than in college, I get very nervous! IMHO, he is a guy you draft on day 3 as a project.
