What's the forum experts' opinion on Justin Jackson? He looks like a slightly taller AC to me. But he's hella aggressive and can sorta create for himself (at the college level).

Based on recent history, wings seems to work out more often than not around our pick range.

I'm a big fan. Love his versatility, his length, and his pedigree. His biggest weakness going into the year was his shooting, and he improved it significantly this season. I'm hoping he drops to us at 15.

I think Bones pointed out that we're basically looking at one of Jackson, Ferguson, or Anunoby being available at 15 based on current projections; I think you take whichever one of the 3 drops to us at that spot and plan on him becoming our starting SF.

I'm wary of guys that bounce up around tournament time after months of mediocrity. And he seems very ground bound < 30" vert, while being very frail. And it's not like he's a freshman-- he's 22, so his body is more developed than the other wing prospects. I'm still on this idea that we need some physical freaks and while Jackson might be a skilled scorer, I don't see the freakish athleticism we lack on our roster. But he has been popping upward on nearly every mock out there after his tourney performance.

Freak athletes are cool but I think with the way we play (not big on transition, throwing lobs, or playing passing lanes defensively) they end up as under utilized 15 minutes per game guys.

Just want to point out that he didn't come out of nowhere at tournament time. He was the best player in the ACC all year (conference POY), and was climbing many draft boards before the tourney. Draftexpress has had him at 13 since March 11 (selection sunday was 3/12).

I definitely understand the concerns about his physicality, and if that's a major issue for you, then Anunoby's probably your guy in that range. I, however, am wary of guys who seem to have all the physical attributes but have yet to show the ability to excel outside of their athleticism (a la Thomas Robinson, Noah Vonleh, etc).

Agreed. He may be a decent bench rotational player, but I don't see him being any more than an AC. There are better prospects on the board at that point in the draft.

Is Khris Middleton a good comparison for Jackson?
Hadn't really thought about it, but it seems like they're very similar in terms of physical attributes and style of play (although Jackson shot from the perimeter as a junior than Middleton did. Good call.

Middleton was selected 39th. Yet another example why you should not write off draft pick because they aren't in the top 10. If we got three players anywhere near his level, we'd be contenders. Myles Turner was selected close to 15 two years ago in a draft that was less hyped than this years draft. If we got a player anywhere near his quality, it would help us immensely.

So if we're comparing Jackson to Middleton, is Jarrett Allen the guy we'd compare to Myles Turner? Harry Giles if he can stay healthy? Maybe Thomas Bryant as a poor-man's version?

Big SFs who can play defense are always underdrafted.

2011: K.Leonard (15), J.Butler (30)
2012: J.Crowder (34), K.Middleton (39)
2013: Giannis (15)
2014: R.Hood (23)

3-And-D players in general get under drafted. W.Matthews, P.George, M.Brogdon, D.Green (both), etc.

We can find one; I'm confident we can.

Do any of them have Turner's mid range game though? This is one of the things I like about him the most. He can extend it to the three point line even. I think Allen is a great shot blocker. I only get NCAA players from highlights as they are almost impossible to watch here.

That's exactly what Jeanne needs - an NBA weight program.

He's probably the most raw project in the draft but his upside is extremely intriguing.

What I look for in project bigs is two things: standing reach and if they're quick leapers.

This is what had me on the Whiteside/DeAndre bandwagons when they were racking up DNPs early in their careers. Jeanne has that kind of upside.

I think that the talent gap is so minimal between 26 and 40 that we need to trade down.

Some options are:
ORL - 33 & 35
UTA - 30 & 42
SAC - 34 & 40
PHI - 37 & 39

I'd also be in favor of swapping down to get rid of a bad contract.
Example:
SAC Gets: 26th pick, Meyers Leonard or Evan Turner
POR Gets: 34th or 40th pick

At 34, you'll likely have Jeanne, Motley, and Wilson available. All would be good picks. Wilson would be great. He'll be the steal of the draft.

In this draft there's an OG, TJ, DJ, LJ, VJ, and PJ, Kinda ridiculous haha.

Justin jackson is definitely the guy I want at 15. 2k would be a good consolation prize for me. I would be very happy with either.

As @PtldPlatypus pointed out, i love jacksons pedigree though. Top 10 recruit for college, mcdonalds all american co-mvp, acc player of the year, ncaa champion. Dude is just successful everywhere.

He just got engaged, seems to love hoops and just is an overall good dude with his priorities straight.

He played for a homeschool team called the Cincinnati Trailblazers. It's meant to be.

Pleassseeee let him fall to 15.

Justin Jackson is not Khris Middleton. I like him but they are totally different players.

Khris excelled in iso situations when he was in college and just had better overall feel/craft in that area. Played with a distinct pace and knew how to use his body to create little advantages against his defender He also has much better posture plus quicker release which allowed him to get his shot off more often and more effectively against aggressive defense.

Justin on the other hand plays hunched over and relies on speed and efficient movement to get to his spots and still has a bit of wasted motion in his jumper. I like that he got more aggressive looking for the 3 ball this year but he's still a much better shooter with time and space as aggressive contests often lead to really bad misses for him as he's forced quicken up his release which compromises his mechanics.

Watching D.J. Wilson makes me wonder why so many have him going so low.

He's athletic, agile, long for a PF (6'10 with 7'3 wingspan), can shoot and handle the ball, as well as move his feet on perimeter defense and block some shots.

The knock on him is he struggles with physicality, but is that really a big dealbreaker with the way NBA PFs are getting now-a-days? The other knock is rebounding, but he's athletic or long so I don't think that'll be a weakness in the NBA.

Why is this dude projected so low? He seems like a stud. I feel like he's kind of an unknown quantity, and that's why he'll fall. He's being slept on.

Yeah, I'm souring on him a bit. Just seems like he'd be a solid role player at best. Meanwhile, Ferguson and Anunoby have unlimited potential. I'd take those 2 over Jackson for sure.

See...this is why it's OK to trade up a couple of spots to get the guy you want...if there is a guy you want. Have to trust your scouting; and your numbers guru ;)

Or that. Would you be happy with dealing 15 and 26 for something like 13, 49 and 51?

15 and 26 for 11 and 41 could be another option.

I'll be happy if the Blazers identify a guy and go get him, and he turns out to be CJ or Nurk level at his position. If that means trading up, then do it. If it means standing pat, do that.
