Event 2017 NBA draft thread - April 2017 edition

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

He reminds me a lot of Ed. An athletic hustle PF who can rebound and finish.

He's faster and more explosive than Davis. Their limitations are similar, but Lessort actually shows some potential with his jump shot.

Markkanen/Collins are obvious lotto picks.

Seeing GS wings abuse this frontcourt the guy that is shooting up my board and should be our main target is OG Anunoby.

However, If his knee checks out I believe he'll rise to the top-10 IMO.

Another euro I'm tracking is Mathias Lessort. He's really played well lately and has elevated his game. He's someone that can immediately push Vonleh for playing time. 26 is a soft landing spot for him. He reminds me of a Kenyon Martin type. He plays with the same type of confidence.

He's more Seraphin than KMart.

Chad Ford's latest mock:

*Giles and OG rise to the lotto (Fuck!)
*Blazers #15: Justin Patton (Eh)
*Blazers #20: Ike Anigbogu (I'd love this pick)
*Blazers #26: Isaiah Hartenstein (S2 loses their shit)

I really like John Collins/Jarrett Allen but there are no players in this draft that would fit in better with Nurk than Zach Collins and Lauri Markkanen - both slated to go top ten. The question now would be how to get in position to grab either player.
Who else was available at #15? I don't pay for insider (which is fucking stupid that you have to PAY to access ESPNs mock draft).

Reviewing more Kadeem Allen tape and his tools/motor/competitiveness combo is seriously Tony Allen/Draymond Green level. And it's not like he's a lost cause offensively. He's a reluctant scorer/shooter but he plays with with pace, knows who to use his body, solid ball handler and finisher w/ both hands, unselfish, sees the floor, calm and confident in high stress situations and shot 42% from 3 on increased volume over last year and has fluid/translatable mechanics.

I understand the value of having a guy like Shabazz as your 3rd guard as a ball on a string/scorer type (especially how offensively limited our wings are), but I don't think he's the skill set we need out of that 3rd pg spot if you want to build a real contender around Dame/CJ/Nurk.

DX just dropped their new mock draft (still doesn't reflect the actual draft order lol)

#15 - Terrance Ferguson
#19 - Justin Patton
#23 - Isaiah Hartenstein

Way too much risk in this draft and not enough reward. I know some of you really like Ferguson, but he seems like a limited low end starter sg at best to me and both Patton and Hartenstein are a long ways off and awkward fits if Hartenstein doesn't shoot--his release needs work, side spin rotation on his shot right now--and both have serious maturity questions. Isaiah's play out more on the court while Patton strikes me as a very naive, impressionable personality that's going to need to be in the right situation to succeed.

Also, PJ dozier appears on their mock for the first time at #52.

My updated draft wants:

Really want: Zach Collins, PJ Dozier, Kadeem Allen
  • Dozier and Allen can be had in the 2nd round which could open up one or two of our picks to package in trades for immediate frontcourt help/shed salary
Want: Justin Jackson, Johnathan Motley, Donovan Mitchell
  • Justin Jackson is basically a want if Crabbe is moved, while Motley and Mitchell are gifted athletes with question marks (Mitchell - Offensive efficiency, defensive IQ, size/fit with current roster) (Motley - Off/Def IQ, foul prone, offensive efficiency)
There's a lot of other guys that I'd be fine with in this draft, but are either questionable fits with the roster, or "projects, but is the upside worth the wait?" type prospects, or both.

I am partial to Colorado's derrick white. plus defender, ball handler, passer and shooter. good length. anyone else have him on their draft board?

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm no expert on seraphin but from what I know I can't see the comparison. Lessort can switch onto wings and guards, that's how fluid of an athlete he is.

I've watched him a couple times and struck me as a good college player that would struggle to translate his game to the NBA. Not sure he's a pg either and if he's a 2, his physical profile looks pretty average.

Stylistically, he actually reminds me of Malcolm Brogdon though, but with less length and strength. Brogdon was a steadier/calmer presence on the floor as well.

I want dynamic, cerebral wing players with ball skills on this team. I don't even care if they aren't great shooters as long as mechanically their shots aren't broken (ie evan turner). Those are the guys that play on championship teams.

OG from a physical standpoint looks like a guy with a high ceiling but he's a one way player who still has things to learn defensively. Those types routinely get played off floor in the playoffs as teams further shrink the floor and dare your others to beat them.
Turner's shot is mechanically broken. That shit is fugly.

Well, I like that he is described as playing with a huge motor. Don't see that much it seems.

I just can't get excited about drafting back-up big at best prospects, especially when there's overwhelming odds against them providing that type of value over the 1st 2 years of their contract plus an existing surplus in the market for that kind of player.

You're better off filling the spot with somebody on a vet min and investing valuable 1st round picks on other positions/higher-end talent.

I'm pretty set on my picks - possibly the earliest I've ever been set:

Blazer pick: OG Anunoby
Memphis pick: Ike Anigbogu
Cleveland pick: Kostaja Mushidi
Trade for/second round buy: Jonathan Jeanne

I'd be fine with drafting one of these type of guys, but I'm not comfortable taking 3 or 4.

Outside of maybe Jeanne, I don't think you are getting great odds of a starter emerging out of this group and they all are quite a ways off from providing even neutral value.

Three are most definitely projects.

Outside Anunoby the theee prospects are my 'Willy Hernangomez' picks - prospects who, in hindsight, should've been taken a lot higher than where they were picked.

Mushidi/Jeanne are indeed YEARS away but are worth investing in.

No thanks. Years is too long.

I like OG if we can't trade up for Collins.

No one has thanked me for teaching the board about OG.

Its in the Shawn Marion/Kevin Martin mold.

Puff and huff.
Question for me is this....Turner is getting paid no matter what. Why not rebuild your shot from the ground up this summer?

I can accept a hideous looking shot if it goes in all the time (Reggie Miller)

Turner ain't Reggie.

I know people will say "he's done this for years and it is too late"

Has anyone actually tried it?

I think the thing I like most about Justin Jackson is his presence on the floor. Always seems alert, aggressive and decisive.

Basically the opposite of AC.

And I just don't think he fails.

This is far from a final evaluation of Kostja Mushidi since more things will be exposed about his game over the next two years. At this moment in time, though, I believe Mushidi is a elite talent whose ceiling will only get higher. While DraftExpress has him ranked as the No. 17 prospect in the 2017 NBA Draft, Mushidi has the skillset to become a dominant two-way player. He needs to improve as a shooter, but it’s hard not to fall in love with his raw tools and confidence.

The Willy Hernangomez in this draft. Still a few years away but if he's there with the Memphis pick you have to take him.
