If the current weather projections hold, MarAzul will leave Bandon for Charleston on Sunday 7/22.
Leave Charleston on the afternoon ebb tide Monday 7/23 for the Heceta bank off the central Oregon coast,
then proceed to the Columbia River entrance, riding the flood tide in over the Columbia River Bar the evening of 7/24. Likely, she will dock for the evening in the Skipanon River before heading up stream for maintenance and business of the skipper.

be safe

So you give me the name when it is too late?

Jack Stiles used to run the water taxis around the ports. A man that can get anything on or off a ship is a very interesting man. If you run into the right seadog here in Portland that name should at least get a you drink and a few great stories.

Noted!
Some where in the rubble of my mind, it did ring.

have you thought about doing like a blog on your trips? We may disagree politically, but I would really enjoy seeing a video log of some of the trip, etc.

You made me think of Jack Monetti. Run a number of business in San Pedro, including water taxi. The hub of which was his bar in town. I worked there Friday nights as a greeter while doing some stuff at Cal Tech, Years ago of course.
I chatted with him every now and then for years. But damn, not this last time in port. He's dead too.

Send me a pm. I will add you to the list of those, I send out stuff. I do post some here.

Perhaps you might prefer Egress Engineer?

barfo

Jack had it about right. He had greeters welcome them as they came, then the Greeter that bid them farewell. After all, we wanted them to return.

I was going to say MarAzul is a day behind the schedule given above, but that would not be quite correct.
We are in Charleston harbor this evening, right in sync with the weather. It is just a day later on the calendar.
Thankfully I do not need to keep calendar schedule.

The MarAzul finally made it to the Columbia, entering the river through heavy fog, up the river as far as Warrenton.

Currently berthed in the beautiful little harbor of Cathlamet Wa. Probably for at least a month while the skipper deals with the VA. Cathlamet is kind a neat, up stream far enough to get out of the cold but not the heat of the Willamette valley.

I might have forgot to ask/tell you but please don't take any 3 hour tours ok?

If you guys are interested in a great book about the early Columbia Bar Pilots, read "Roll on Columbia".
I am from a family of CR Pilots and Tug pilots.
MarAzul be safe crossing that bar!

It seems MarAzul will be in the Wooden Boat Festival in Cathlamet this coming weeked. It sort of happened without me knowing about it.
Just because we are here!

Back in Bandon!

A bus ride from Scappoose to SW 6th and Salmon. Never mind the 3 and half mile hike into Scappoose to catch the bus, and the Amtrack to Eugene, the distressful part of the journey was the hike down SW 6th Ave to the train station. Lord amity, Portland is a disgusting place! How in the hell did this happen over the last 50 years. Damn! What a tragedy! A vibrant city allowed to become a shit hole with Max and no riders running smack down the middle. Derelicts and riff raft decorating both wings most of the way.

People using needles to shoot up shit right on the sidewalk, with blanket spread and pillow ready to go to la la land right there.
Who votes for this shit? The buses uses to come into town and the end of the run was near Transportation hubs like the Train Station, and two bus terminals. No more! The driver of the bus I was on, said no one want to go to that end of town anymore. I suppose he might be right, but the train station is there! Bus terminal no.
Perhaps because no one would go there? It is a shit hole though.
